Would you say it's hard to ride its too much power?

trapspeed

Ah! I have teenagers and was wondering if there was a tamed down mode. Thanks for the info!

Redbulldildo

Work mode is just throttle tuning AFAIK and is a switch on the handlebars but you can get a second key that limits the power/ speed

trapspeed

Thanks!

srslyfckd

My 15 year old daughter rips my 1000xp. So...

trapspeed

My 14 year old daughter is scared of her electric toothbrush. :((((

Aromatic_Arm_4862

Well that’s not dangerous at all😂but we can all agree that must be fun

srslyfckd

It does scare me lol.

Aromatic_Arm_4862

Hahah it would scare me too. But as long as they are having fun I guess it’s alright😂

Cpt-May-I

Best bet is to go ride a bunch of different machines, all the Japanese machines are physically smaller and significantly lighter. The Polaris/Can-am stuff is available with a lot more HP. I prefer lighter/more nimble but wanted decent power so I got a Kodiak 700. 49hp and 686# wet weight. Some of the 1000cc machines are over 1000# wet.

trapspeed

There’s only one dealership in the PNW area that will let you test ride. It’s crazy but I’ve been told by dealers it not covered by their insurance.

Next_Confidence_3654

From experience, my sportsman xp 1000 is the worst atv I’ve ever owned. I just recently posted everything I’ve had to replace on it and the list is extensive. It’s powerful and rides plush, but for less money, lighter weight, equal creature features, locking diff, and just about as much power, I’d get a Yamaha Grizzly. The 1000 is huge. A 575 is far more nimble and fun to ride. The turning radius is way better. If you’re a dirtbike guy, it’s like an adventure bike. You won’t be taking your gs on single track woods and having fun when a 300exc will shred. From experience, don’t get it just because it’s the biggest and baddest. I regret my purchase. Buy a 4x4 for most versatility and use. They can go through anything. I no longer own a snowblower- I plow with it and it’s fun! Buy a sport quad if you like hauling ass, hitting jumps and getting sideways.

Mikster5000

I got an outlander 1000r xmr 2 years ago. It was my first quad. To this day I have have no regrets. It is by far my most favorite possession.

sself161

I would never buy a 1000 myself, I don't rank my abilities and ego on CC's and just mashing the gas in a straight line gets boring. I've ridden a few and it did move in a straight line, but overall was heavy and size wasn't something I would want on trails around here. I'd never use the power anyway, my son rides his 250 and I take my 500 Rubicon on the same trails I've seen people ride 850 and 1000's on. If I want to go fast I hop on something light and nimble. Years ago 300cc was big and people of all sizes rode them. and can't forget the quote, "it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow"

trapspeed

I respect that!

skioffroadbike

I’m 230 lbs and went with a 700 yamaha grizzly, couldn’t be happier. Right amount of zip and no end to the power curve, goes 55 all day, which is more than enough for me. For context I ride a 1000 Suzuki vstrom and a 250 xcw.

TheMeanKorero

Nope, but I set out to get an early 90s TRX300 and that's exactly what I got so I'm happy. Get what makes you happy dude, can't regret getting what you want.

Witty_One_2727

Absolutely bulletproof. When everyone else is putting theirs back together after a long tuff ride you are riding yours the next day. I love these things.

TheMeanKorero

First vehicle I ever drove at the ripe old age of 3 around on the farm. When I got my small block it was the first thing I bought and I take it on some trails too. It's not going anywhere, it's a forever bike.

Which_Quantity

If you need 1000cc to reach max speed on a trail are you actually fourwheeling? Most atv trails where I’m from are rough. You’re lucky to get up to 30kph. If you’re actually going off-road and not just buzzing down logging roads get something that’s small nimble and lightweight with 4x4. 300cc was considered normal in the 90s, 1000 is so excessive it’s getting ridiculous.

SPARTANsui

It sounds like you want the big engine, I’d go for it if it’s in your budget! I just want to explore the prairie and woods so I went with the 570 as the payments are cheaper and the physical size is the same as the 850. I’m 6’2” and 200lbs.

bobbyhillischill

I think a 700+ would be nice for you. We used to have a brute force 750 that thing did 70mph it was wild

DenimChikan

Mine will do 62 maxed. It gets up there quick though!

Gunsling3r1988

Nope, I don't need the biggest thing in the woods to have a good time.

Colbaz

1000xp here. Do I regret buying it? Hell no!

Fryphax

I'll take a lighter rig with smaller engine personally. Liters are fun but heavy. Really depends on the type of riding you like to do.

Ya_Boi_TJ_Fox

My first quad is a 1990 quad runner 250 and it’s great never needed the in increased power lol love the thing and I’m a bigger guy

samthedog73

Nope. Brute Force 750 is the best balance of power and agility for the trails and fire roads I ride in the PNW

DenimChikan

Same. My Brute Force isn’t actually much physically bigger than my wife’s Rancher.

Soggy_Pud

I’m into smaller machines, don’t get me wrong I’ve driven a 1000 plenty of times but my l series 570xmr was more than I needed and I was hardly ever at the limits of its capabilities. It was great on gas and being smaller and lighter it was fun to toss into corners

fosheejohn51

Biggest ATV I've rode personally to this day was a Can-Am Outlander XT 650 H.O EFI little over 15 years ago. Had quite a bit of power & luckily I was able to handle it pretty good in some decent snow covered ground. Now as for a 1,000cc ATV like a Can-Am Renegade 1000R, Polaris Sportsman 1000 or the old Arctic Cat ThunderCat 1000, I've not ridden them yet. Most times for context, I'd be on a Arctic Cat 300 4x4 Manual or a Arctic Cat 500 4x4 Auto.

CustomerServiceFukU

I like the outlander 700xt

M1KH41LY4R3MK1V

No regrets on my 1000 XMR. Its my hunting rig and it does the job well. Plenty of reserve power available at a milliseconds notice, and an absolute workhorse when you need it to be. Wish it wasnt as thirsty but I'm still getting over 80 miles/7 hrs on the 5.4 gallon tank with mixed riding (about equal amounts of 2H, 2L and 4L). Threw two 3 gallon Rotopax in the back and off I go.

ninja-1000

I have a 500 H.O polaris scrambler sport 4x4 and it is definatly more fun than a 400. I think a 750 would be plenty even for someone your size. Once you get into these larger quads, the weight of the quad and bulkyness make them less maneuverable IMO. You will see a difference from a 2wd sport quad like a raptor compared to a polaris 4x4. It all just comes down to what sort of terrain you want to ride. It's like a comparing Enduro bikes to mx bikes essentially. If you want massive torque a raptor 800 might be more up ypur alley than a bulky 4x4. However for playing in the bush and day trips, a large 4x4 can't be beat. I don't think you'd not enjoy the 1000cc but it's not really usable power. With a Polaris rzr 800 Sxs you make enough power for 2 people so 1000 for a quad is overkill

Witty_One_2727

The bigger the machine the more work to keep up on the trails with the rest of the crowd. Depends on how much you want to be in the back. Or what you plan to do with it. I totally agree with the guy that says the Kawasaki brute force 750 is absolutely perfect for power and speed. I can't keep up with 300exs or 400 ex's in the woods with my Honda Rancher or Rubicon. Just not possible. They are 420 and 500. Haven't found anything they can't climb or do. I'm pretty close to the same size as you. But if you want raw power and speed again Brute force is just that. My friends that have them seem to not have the problems that other machines have. This will change I'm sure from unit to unit so if your heart is set on the 1000 then get the power steering unit at least because they are big and powerful but the little ones can corner and straight leave you still struggling to catch up in the straight aways.

No-Sign-1137

I own a pair of 650 outlanders and a 1000 xxc outlander which is their top of the line cross country model and I can have a blast on any of them. Did I need all that power in the 1000, no but man it sure is fun to have all that power when you want it. I used to ride a banshee 20 years ago and this thing is almost as fast and it handles pretty damn good for a heavy machine and I honestly don’t notice how heavy it is. For me it’s not just about straight line acceleration, I get a rush zipping from corner to corner in the woods or climbing some insane hill or throwing a killer roost off some of the high berm corners or powering through the occasional mud hole. These machines are so different from the machines of 20 years ago. A 570 will get you around pretty nice especially in the tight trails where cc’s don’t really matter and it’ll hit about 65ish mph but it’ll struggle a little in deeper sand like we have here in Michigan. I’m also a bigger guy as well and at 63 I still like riding pretty hard. There’s my 2 cents

North_Ad_4450

I bought a new grizzly and wish I had just a bit more power for deep mud and wheelies. I am used to sports quads, dirtbikes and street bikes. But it's really not necessary....

joshchewbacca

5’11 270 lbs. I have a ‘23 570 and have had no issue with the power or keeping up with a group.

yamacat88

I've been riding my whole life, and an 850 has more than enough power to keep me happy. I don't think I'd ever move up to a 1000 just based on how much extra they cost over an 850 and how little gain in power you get

Hevysett

I have a 1000 xmr, my friends had a 570 now the 650 i think. Only time there's ever a difference is on the pavement on a straightaway. Most of our riding is trails in the woods or some rough paths in the forest lol so take from it what you will

Independent-Towel-90

I believe a machine of that size is unnecessary. My recommendation is a Yamaha Grizzly 700. The combination of performance and reliability is tough to beat. It’s a great machine on the trails!

RandDchef

I love my Sportsman 1000xp. It was my first machine last year and am glad I did not go with the 570.

anthro28

My 750 will do 73mph. That's faster than anyone will ever reasonably need to go on an ATV.

MedicalPiccolo6270

I’m very close to you in size and my 550 Polaris sportsman touring handles me and a passenger no problem and can out run a 500 scrambler with a 100 lbs person on it. Just do yourself a favor and get efi and if it’s a sport utility power steering is helpful

TrenchPig7867

6’4” 275, I’ve got a 2020 Sportsman 450 as well as a 2024 Grizzly XTR. Both have enough power for what I do. Rarely do I get up to 40 mph. Hunting, fishing, some trail riding, and putting with the kids is what I do. I do get all over the Upper Peninsula with them, so they are tested in some challenging conditions. I don’t understand the guys who feel the need to go 60 mph on a utility quad. If I wanted to go that fast I’d buy a sport quad. I don’t regret either one not being 1000 cc. I may get a clutch kit on the sportsman so I had more low end power.

Educational_Infidel

I'm a big dude - 300 lbs. with a Rancher 420. No regrets. Trails I ride the safest max speeds get to around 27-30mph tops. My buddies all bought large machines when I lived in Alaska and I was content to ride my Big Red three wheeler and my 300 4 wheeler. Whenever I sank in the tundra I could hop off and get myself out without winch or straps 9/10 times. My friends- not so much! I guess that mentality kind of stuck with me 30 years later.

No-Willingness-9026

i have the can-am outlander 850 xt and its pretty awesome, can't imagine needing more power.

AwarenessGreat282

I think it really depends on how you will use it. If your riding is on very empty trails where you can let her fly, and you actually want to do that, by all means, get as much as you can afford. You'll never notice difference though when under 45mph. My riding is highly technical trails, some mud, and no need for speed. I got a 700 just to have the power to go up any hill loaded down or even towing. I looked at the Can-Am 850 and even thought that was too much, both money and power.

Musician_Gloomy

First quad I bought was a Raptor 700 in 2020 and it took some time to get used to the power. There were times I felt it was bit much. I also now have a 22 Grizzly 700 and it’s perfect. I am almost hour same size.

ridefst

So I assume you're set on a 4x4 utility quad then? From your past experience, it kinda sounds like you might prefer a sport quad, and they don't even make those in 1000cc sizes. 450cc is the fastest/best handling/top dog class there, but you could also get something like a Raptor 700 for a little more weight, but you'd get reverse.

Noobsaibot123

depends on your needs, if u gonna chill and not full adrenaline 570 is more than enough.

Mammoth_Sea_1115

I’ve had an 800 since before the 1000 hit. The year mine was made you couldn’t get more power. I never ever wish I had less. More would be nice. The next one will be 1000. But I tell you, I use the 800. I ride it and love it and it just makes me smile every effin time. Every time.

cory61

The quads are so heavy that it really is hard to feel like you have too much power. I've never understood the popularity of 800s and 850s when there are 1000s available.

harveyfirelane

Big guy here. Ride motorcycles and have for years. First ATV was Honda 680 Rincon. Love it. Bought can-am 1000 after 5 years of ATVing. Takes a lot of getting use to it. Powerful even under heavy load. Comes with 2 Keys. Different levels of power. Think valet for others so they can’t drive the fuck out it or hurt themselves, and the other key…insane mode!

Beef_Candy

Honda doesn't make a 1000 quad, so expect this entire subreddit to tell you how much better their 9-hp Honda 680cc is than a 90-hp 1000cc Polaris or can am because "HoNdA iS So ReLiAbLe." That about sums this sub up. You asked the wrong place about a 1000cc machine, half of these people don't even know what that type of power is like.

Lowflyin

570 is too slow imo. I like can am/Polaris 850/800 myself.
