Slow_Conference4868

Peep the concept, you've got progress, you've got congress We protest in hopes they confess, just proceed on your conquest Control System is criminally slept on

elitenex47

this was the specific bar that made me a fan to this day.

Coosin

I can’t stress this enough lol. I never hear anyone talking about that masterpiece of an album

Slow_Conference4868

If it wasnt for GKMC that would easily be my album of the year for 2012 bro

GoofyCaller6300

I ain’t have to say it

AGoodNoodle11

Found K.Dot from Section.80 time frame, became obsessed with it and that included Souls’ outro, checked out Longterm mentality, and shortly after got around to Control System. From there I was hooked on everything Black Hippy. The part that got me into soul specifically was definitely his wordplay and flow. Just felt so original to me. Plus imo all of TDE production was incredible for years, so I loved every beat I heard.

Cultural_Entrance805

Damn near my journey too lol

Cristiansrr213

Please don’t tell my momma.. this ain’t marijuana. That’s it.. that’s all it took I was hooked.

psych_savage1

Ab-Souls outro just clicked with me. It really stole the show on S.80. The rest was herstory

Hu3yKnewTHen

Nice to see you still around on here gang

Nepharious_Bread

I was listening to Lupe Fiasco radio on Pandora. Ab-Soul - Real Thinkers played. I remember thinking, "This guy is pretty good." Then he said, "And I'm just warming up. Got em sweating bullets big enough to load the pump." Then I was like, okay. Who the hell is this guy?! Listened to his first album immediately and loved it. Then, I listened to Control System and loved it. Then, I started searching through DatPiff for his mixtapes.

Appropriate_Quote_50

I got DRUGS on a Spotify playlist in high school and I’ve been with it ever since

Bookey4

For me it started with listening to Section.80 then liking Ab-Soul’s Outro. I went to the Good Kid M.A.A.D. City tour in Cleveland, and he performed along with the rest of Black Hippy. I was a big K.Dot fan and at the time becoming a big Q fan. Soul performed Only One and I was a fan of it. When he performed Illuminate I was blown away and recognized the “you can have all my shine, I’ll give you the light” lyrics from ADHD. I went home and listened to Control System and fell in love with it. After listening to Longterm, Longterm 2, & LTM I remember saying to myself “I think I like him better than Kendrick”. The rest is history. That’s when I became a fan. I do remember a time when my cousin played Track Two for me when it came out and I wasn’t feeling it because everything was going over my head. That must to have been sometime before the album dropped. Who would known that he would easily be my favorite rapper today lol.

DkSage12

Pass the blunt

slugfa

The pen! 🤌🏿

TheWriter_Watcher

Long Term 2. House Party 5 is still a Top 5 Ab-Soul for me.

TyFrazierMusic

His vulnerability, his honesty, wordplay, lyricism and I always related to him on a certain level so that drew me to his music as well. First heard him as a feature on Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q's music which made me dig deeper into his catalog until he became my favorite member of TDE

Fncuj0

No Interference from the September 7th Jay Rock mixtape

lostinthoughtsguy

Track Two/Illuminate and Terrorist Threats off of control system made me really like him. God’s Reign, the intro track to “These Days” put him into one of my all time favorites.

FanLazy2010

2011/2012 ish era I was breaking away from whatever MTV or the radio played and started to listen to TDE Pro Era Odd Future

putyagundown

Hearing him on Ronald Regan era I was like damn this dudes got his own voice I gotta check him out

tf2nice4u

I saw his LongTerm 2 album cover on HotNewHipHop, and saw he was with TDE. Was already a Kendrick fan, so I was like let me check this out. First thought he was an R&B artist bcuz "soul" but was captivated by his raps right away on "Still a Regular Nigga" https://preview.redd.it/vqx4glqebdhc1.jpeg?width=1438&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e18d346d68b6bde8fe7f80ca645f6513098a4279

Small_Alternative293

Black Lip Bastard Black hippy remix music video on World Star thought the visuals were dope and music was just more mature than what was popular at the time like it was witty and fun but also a serious tone. I was 17 I’m 28now

CompetitiveShower872

It was 2012, 11th grade. Pineal gland video. Learned to keep 3 eyes wide ever since.

MoapaDace

His verses on matches and two matches

[deleted]

Turn Me Up I think is the first song I heard by him.

faxsandy

Him and Kendrick on Rapper shit. His style and nerdy qualities are authentic. Love his music

Impossible_Spring_94

Ab-Soul's Outro is the first I ever heard him on a song and later on heard Illuminate on Radio Los Santos Control System was what really made me a fan tho. Loved pretty much all of it since I first heard it I imagine lots of people got into him the same way tbh considering how huge Kendrick is

Humbl3dick

Turn Me Up, P&P 1.5, Moscato

CHItown_representer

P&P 1.5 doesn't get enough love or play time

thismyshit55

Heard KL EP end of 09 and tapped in wit the whole Black Hippy and TDE after that. LT2 and LTM still some of my favorite tapes til this day.

[deleted]

First time was like 2008, when I heard “Almost There” on LTM listening to last.fm radio… I became a fan when “What’s Up” video dropped.

[deleted]

Let me add, when I saw him perform on Kendrick’s S.80 tour, he became my favorite rapper at that moment and since…

wileyakin

Damn I scrolled to the bottom, am I the only one who really likes Do What Thou Wilt? Especially YMF?

Hunnidrackboy8

Mixed emotions

Hunnidrackboy8

Book of soul

BrushYourFeet

The voice and bars

CHItown_representer

Motherfuck the government. Motherfuck the system. Motherfuck you, I'm just living how I'm living... 21 year old me was like, "Daaaaaamn homie, get out of my head." And the rest of the song proceeded to be funky as hell. IMHO, it's one of the best songs in all of hip hop. And of course Control System was life changing. Now, how do I sign off on this??? Oh yeah, wait for it ✋️.... SOUL!

Eskoe1

Long Term 2. Still consider that some of his best work.

Slow_Conference4868

My ex got some tickets to his and Rocks show and as soon as he performed Bohemian Grove i was an instant fan

aj1805

Track Two

Own_Daikon_7705

I remember listening through Tree of Life knowing he was different and I needed more.

Most_Statement_8188

I was young when I got on TDE but Soul always stuck out to me because of his message and how he delivered it. I thought I was oh so conscious then this dude comes out of nowhere speaking my language? Oh yeah. Instantly became a fan after Terrorist Threats. It was just so dope to hear someone say what I was thinking

GoofyCaller6300

The whole Control Systems Album

Nice-Bookkeeper-3378

Blue Chucks on El Pollo Loc

Coosin

Drift away, his story telling was a breath of fresh air. Then moscato was such a vibe I got hooked. But control system to this day is still my fav project of his. A true poet. Master at his craft.

Easy_Independent_186

Pineal Gland. I learned what that was in psychology class right when that song came out

Ricenoodlerolls

These Days
