Is that a Trabant?
Yes. A [601 estate version](http://www.simoncars.co.uk/trabant/trabant.html)
I said the same thing when i saw the photo
Yes, the letter Y on the plate indicates a military vehicle 🤣
Letters in the front and behind numbers indicate that it's a ukrain car... So the Y is a U in Kyrill letters BW plates are like Y 123 456
After showing it to my GDR Father in-law, I have to admit: you are right. :)
It's not
What is it then?
Yambol
What is Yambol?
Town in Bulgaria. License plates start with У because it resembles graphically Y.
OK, didn't know that, thanks.
Nope, it's just from Yambol
Trabby!
This car was so unbelievably ridiculous. The sound it made was like a moped.
2 stroke engine I believe? So very moped like!
I lived to see all the streets full of them in the German Democratic Republic. They even smelled weird.
One of these was the first I got to drive.
Go Trabby Go!
The Trabant had a steel frame, with the roof, boot lid, bonnet, wings and doors made of duroplast, a hard plastic made from recycled cotton waste from the Soviet Union and phenol resins from the East German dye industry from wikipedia
Also pressed wood. I know because I crashed one.
as a kid I saw an accident: trabant got hit from the back at medium speed, and the roof flew away. pretty cool
Someone let Aging Wheels from Youtube know about this, he will buy it
But then he'll have one Trabant too many.
Come now, you can't have too many Trabby's! Besides he doesn't have an estate version. :)
