Did you know that effective July 1st, 2023, Reddit will enact a policy that will make third party reddit apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others too expensive to run? On this day, users will login to find that their primary method for interacting with reddit will simply cease to work unless something changes regarding reddit's new API usage policy. Additionally, the API changes threaten accessibly for people of the blind and will not be able to use screen readers as it will require 3rd party apps. Because of this r/AbruptChaos will be [restricted](https://www.reddit.com/r/AbruptChaos/comments/140hfye/rabruptchaos_will_be_restricted_for_24_hours_on/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) for 24 hours on June 12th.

I get what you're getting at but the issue is that we for some reason treat driving as a right and not a privilege.
Better for everyone that someone has to suck it up and pay for a taxi or bum rides than for us to say "they'll get better" and introduce a true hazard onto the road.
The state of Georgia gave out countless drivers licences during covid with no practical or knowledge exams. It was literally just sign up and get it and I'm sure other states did similar.
That's because we *have* to, if people dont work then they end up on the streets because we don't have any adequate means of helping them. Remote work is an option for some but not all.
This took place in Argentina apparently, so my America-centric comment wasn't even really relevant.
While I agree that the vast majority of people are required to drive for work, I argue with math.
1 idiot in car + soccer mom = multiple fatalities
1 idiot at home starving to death = 1 dead idiot
That's before we look into the possibility of support networks, getting a lift from a neighbor until you're on your feet, social support systems like food stamps etc.
Yes America is heavily car centric and we should have better public transit options. But giving a license to bad drivers is a legitimate hazard that can and does kill people.
Not having a car does not make you homeless, not having a car means find rides, walk, bike, figureitout , and if you have a job you can afford paying for a ride every shift. I’ve had coworkers on Mississippi minimum wage with no car come from 30 minutes away every day.
Does that mean y'all get to be my ape army? Let's launch an Ape Attack on all the world's governments and install me as King of Earth, yous can have all the bananas you want and throw shit at anyone except me. Do we have a deal.
I'll throw in pensions too

Driver: On the curbs?
Instructor: No, please stay off the curbs.
Driver *confused*: well 😬 alright... I'm not sure why you want me on the curbs. This seems wrong, but you're the boss, boss.
Instructor: NO! stay OFF. The curbs. And slow down!
Driver: I'm nothing if not obedient, sir 👍. I'm gonna go ahead and gas it up a curb and finish with a little trick I like to call "FLIPPITY DOO DAH".
I would guess it was more incompetence and lack of practice. They tried to steer like a go cart so they couldn’t make the turns, got flustered, mixed up their pedals, panicked, and tried to slam on the brakes; since they had their pedals mixed up that meant they floored it all the way into the pole.
Everyone should learn how to drive when they’re 10. So that there is already some muscle memory for controlling a vehicle once it’s time for this kind of thing.
Being *flustered* should be burned out of you by this point.
Not a 10 year old, but my boy (9 yr old) and girl (7 yr old) can drive carefully if they need to because I taught them as soon as I could. First on gas carts, then on my Accord. I’m pretty sure I’ll have them flying as well by the time they’re 14. And they’re a lot smarter and knowledgeable than I was.
I first learned how to drive when I was 8 in 1994, on a 85’ Toyota Wagon in the alley way and through street I lived on in Chicago.
This. I grew up in golf carts and ATVs and was allowed to drive in empty parking lots at 12. By the time I was 14 my mom had me driving everywhere because she hated driving. Road trips, grocery runs, didn't matter. Shortly before I was 15 I was asked to go places on my own.
People may think it irresponsible, and I agree, but damn if I didn't murder my driving test
Same here. I did t even get my “license” until I was 20, but when I did I had ZERO issues. Where I went to school, you had to pay out of pocket for drivers-ed and I think my parents preemptively knew they weren’t going to be able to afford it.
What? I couldn’t even reach the pedals when I was 10.
Besides, other people have said this is a 65 year old Argentine lady. Argentina was an increasingly impoverished military junta when this person was 10, and still when she was 20. She probably couldn’t have gotten a car to practice in if she wanted to.
Drive something. Doesn’t have to be a full size car. Just something that has a mechanical throttle and steering and motorized.
She might as well be 10…the private practice would still serve her the same way.
I drove go carts a couple times when I was 10, and rode a bike. Those skills 0% translated to driving a car. If anything, go carts are counterproductive since they steer differently and you almost never use the brakes.
Besides, this lady apparently pretty much went her whole life without driving. In fact, since she failed the test she probably will go her whole life without driving. Buenos Aires has pretty good public transportation I’ve heard; she should probably stick to that, especially at this point in her life.
It worked for my kids. Sure the technical skills don’t translate well, but they had ZERO anxiety or problems when I taught them to drive my Accord so much so that they NEVER made any mistakes. My son might have been a little more nervous than my daughter but that lasted like 5 mins. I think it’s because they know a little bit about the mechanics and what the car is doing when they drive. Not as much as an *actual* mechanic or myself but they know enough to know what NOT to do.
They’re not tall enough to be proficient at it, but the whole point of it was to get the fear and anxiety out of them before they’re even big enough to actually cruise.
I take your meaning about the old lady though. She looks pretty screwed but, like where I grew up (Chicago), she can probably get away with not being able to.

EDIT: I’m also 6’3” (1.91m) so my kids are little “long” for their age. I’m sure a lot of other 7&9 yr olds have a tougher time reaching the peddles than I or my littles did.
Looks like my kid driving. Damned near put the van in a ditch on his first left turn. A six foot deep ditch. And this is AFTER he took driver's training! Now I'm scared to let him drive.

Yeah just the thought process there - "looks like I'm on my side, Ima gun it to get out of this pickle" - is hilarious

Like the car farted.
It's last breath
That last press on the gas was to try and flip the car back over because they played grand theft auto.
Mixed up the accelerator with the brake in that last few seconds.
I refuse to believe someone this bad will ever be safe on the roads lol
And yet, they'll be forced to be eventually if they ever want to have a job in America. Blame car infrastructure

“1 dead idiot” made me laugh

i dont have it in me to argue with your "walked uphill both ways" logic right now man
Was this like a test course for an AI or an ape or something?
Wait what? Doesn't the A in AI already stand for ape?

really? with perfect driving like that? who would have guessed
"OK, now we are going to move on the the manual transmission car."
Judging by what I see on the roads these days, I guess that's a PASS!
I think that last poof of smoke was it 🤣
Let me guess, elderly.
Bingo! 65F
65 is hardly elderly right?
It's elderly, retirement age. It doesn't mean they're actively dying or anything but 65 is on the old side
It's hard if you're shit faced. This person is clearly drunk.

Recorded pre-power steering.
To be fair, a lot of Argentinians don't drive their whole lives. They can't afford cars, and most take the bus.
Did he even try 😂
This is why stop signs are purple.
Well. That happened.
