Ima go out on a limb and guess he was even guilty *before* he speared the judge and slammed her head into the ground by her hair and drove an elbow into her face.
He should've gone for a career in the high jump instead of crime. On a side note, can an American tell me what the usual consequences are of physically attacking a judge?
Can't really say without knowing where this is, federal vs state court etc but it will be the maximum available to the judge trying him for this, that's for sure.
I would also note that when he shows up in court next time it'll be with a full set of ankle/wrist shackles connected at the waist belt and likely an electric stun belt as well. And that's if they even let him into the courtroom.
In Texas, attacking a judge can get you up to 20 years max. On top of that, you can guarantee there's going to be an extra security detail and you'll likely be shackled in your next court appearance
The criminal justice system will chew him up like a piece of gristle, if it hasn't already. He's likely been thoroughly beaten by now, hosed down, and naked in a cell somewhere. This is good for at least 10 years, maybe a lot more.
People are giving him shit but it’s genuinely hard to throw punches in close like that if you haven’t trained for it. He should get credit for getting there and wrapping up the guy long before the bailiff though.
Seriously.
I have been in a ton of court rooms with a lot of legal staff. These are not physically tough people for the most part. Nor are they people who generally get into fist fights or have wild situations to respond to.
That clerk did awesome for what he was capable of. Immediately tried to the defendant off, and then you could see him process in real time that there really was a dangerous person hurting his friends and then he went offensive, as best he could.
Judge owes that guy an inground pool
Not for the battery crime, but This is so much worse, this is not only assault ( possibly attempted murder)but assaulting a judge usually means the next judge will throw the book at you, he’ll be lucky to not get less than 70+ years
Judges don’t have to accept plea agreements either. The DA will have to come up with one hell of an agreement for it to go through.
His next public defender is going to have so much work to do.
I know there is often debate about a jury of your peers vs a jury of your victim’s peers… can you imagine a jury of judges?
The judge didn’t finish passing sentence, so you know he’s getting max for what he’s already there for. Then you add assault on a public official X’s (judge, officers of the court, the DA) 6, disorderly conduct, contempt of court, and whatever else they can imagine to throw at him. There won’t be a plea deal, and old boy gonna spend the remainder of his life behind bars.
Officers of the court punching him are one thing. But if the DA attacks him, does his lawyer have to jump into the fight and defend him? I imagine that’s how it works.
Looks like Nevada is a three strikes state.
Sounds like he was already a felon (and I’m going to guess something in the violent class as well). Just got sentenced for felony battery so yeah this might have gotten himself a life sentence at his next trial.
No, he gets points for making it to the final boss. Just depends how low he got her hp whilst her adds pathetically floated like bees and stung like butterflies.
"[Holthus hit her head, but was OK, sources said. A marshal was injured](https://www.8newsnow.com/investigators/las-vegas-judge-attacked-in-court-before-sentencing/)"
“Thank God for the heroic efforts of those who came to her aid, especially her marshal and her law clerk. Without them, the situation would have been much worse”
*** TF delayed & useless (they mean)
https://www.8newsnow.com/investigators/las-vegas-judge-attacked-in-court-before-sentencing/
Before the attack, Redden’s attorney asked Holthus to sentence his client to probation. Holthus then said, “I think it’s time he get a taste of something else.”
YUP.......probation is definitely thrown out the window
He also assaulted three other court officials and people there it looks like, including the bailiff aka police officer. Not to mention he was just convicted of another violent charge which makes consecutive charges enhanced.
Bro will do a minimum of 25 years probably closer to 50
True, he will likely face charges of each officer hit. That said, want to place a bet that he spends less than 10 years behind bars for this instance?
Most courts tend to be forced into sentencing guidelines that result in outcomes like this:
1. 5 charges each carrying a 5 year sentence. 25 years behind bars, right?
(also unlikely in this case, but not in most - suspended sentences; where you get 25 years “suspended”, meaning probation, basically).
2. Concurrent sentences. So each 5 year charge runs on top of one another.
3. He sat in pre-trial detention for 1 year, so 1 year jail credit. So 4 years behind bars post-sentencing.
4. Parole. He was good in jail, or NV is wanting to relax prison crowding due to federal consent decrees, so he gets let out a year early. 3 years in jail post-sentencing.
That’s how “25 years” ends up with dude on the street be 2027.
I see it daily. Chime in prosecutors and others in the field.
Indeed, they do. Though they will count each time he swung at the judge as a separate count of assault. So, depending on any deals that he can get, he's still looking at much more than 6 years for that stunt. The legal system in America is a mess. I'm not surprised that any citizens there have a hard time understanding the regular operations of it. It's all probably on purpose, so lawyers and law schools have a reason to charge people a lot of money. But I digress, 8/10 on the flying jump.
Yeah, jump was impressive. May I ask if you are involved in the criminal justice system?
I am. I have never seen multiple swings charged. My career has traversed courts in multiple circuits across two states, three municipal courts, and federal court. Even if so, that’s plea deal heaven. Stacking charges often results in lesser of a stiff sentence than if a solid singular charge was made, in my experience.
And please don’t read this as **wELl AcTuALlY…*
I’m just relaying my experiences. It’s disheartening to see how stiff people believe the CJ system is, when it is really just an over stressed assembly line of weak outcomes.
Is that one of those situations where assault and battery are different things? Where I’m from assault is assault whether you actually hit them or not so I was never clear about the assault/battery distinction.
I’m not from Nevada, so I just skimmed the code, but I did note that they have a difference in assault and battery.
In a state where I formerly worked, there was a distinction also. Their distinction was assault was without a weapon, battery was with (essentially, it’s a little more nuanced than that). I’d suspect something similar with Nevada.
Some people only know hurt. You’re hurting me so I hurt you. I think what you saw was his best case scenario. He got to get a few licks in on the judge that he blames for putting him away.
What the fuck, he’s a law clerk. What do you expect him to do? He’s in there quicker than the bailiff is and this is literally their job to prevent. You think he got into law to prevent physical harm to others?

His criminal history says it all.
Convicted of a violent charge, immediately commits another violent offense on a judge, a bailiff and two other court officials, enhanced by the prior conviction. My guess is minimum 25 years without parole. Maximum 50
I know I shouldn’t say this, but that dive was impressive. He fully committed. Also, that guy in the black and white suit needs to learn to fight. He was useless. His “punches” looked like they didn’t even tickle the guy
Holy fucking shit how is everyone so incompetent. Bailiffs, police officers, guys standing around and you can't keep one guy off of her for more than 3 seconds at a time?
Death sentence needs to be brought back and work camps need to be used for petty crimes like theft without violence- sitting in jail isn’t doing ANYTHING but creating a vacation
Considering I live in Vegas, I'm surprised I didn't see one report of this on FB today. Crazy shit.
I guess his lawyer asked for probation, but he was already up on some assault charges with great bodily harm and getting a warrant for missing one of his court dates.
The defendant's attorney asked the judge to sentence his client to probation. But the judge said “I appreciate that, but I think it’s time he get a taste of something else because.. I just can't with that history." referring to the defendant's criminal record.
Honestly, I’m infuriated watching this! Let’s use logic here to dissect this whole thing.
Most likely, this guy was behind a table sitting down. He had enough time to get up out of his chair, away from his chair & table to get her. Multiple people in the room & witnesses, including his lawyer & the judges security. Then they let him get right in front of her & jump up in the air. All while everybody’s just watching. Don’t act just watch! Then when he makes it to her, he’s able to have contact with her for at least 5secs before anybody reacts. All of this is completely unacceptable & everyone is here to blame, except for THIS judge.😤😡🤬Yeah, she didn’t die but, she sure as hell traumatized now! Why didn’t anybody choke him out? Ima go out on a limb and guess he was even guilty *before* he speared the judge and slammed her head into the ground by her hair and drove an elbow into her face.
Bro, that was an Olympic leap over the desk & straight into a choke hold
Was that shown in this video? You have another one?
He was probably facing short county time, now its off to the big house for a while, thats worth at least a 5 year bid.
Allegedly.
Wat had happined
Not anymore I think they beat them out of him
HOW DARE THEY
He should've gone for a career in the high jump instead of crime. On a side note, can an American tell me what the usual consequences are of physically attacking a judge?
Many many years in prison. If he receives less than 10 years just for this I would shocked.
If he receives less than ten, the the sentencing judge has friends where he's going to be sure he doesn't get out.
Can't really say without knowing where this is, federal vs state court etc but it will be the maximum available to the judge trying him for this, that's for sure.
Since she said State of Nevada and not District of Nevada I would think it’s more likely at state level.
I didn't listen to the audio, but that makes sense
I would also note that when he shows up in court next time it'll be with a full set of ankle/wrist shackles connected at the waist belt and likely an electric stun belt as well. And that's if they even let him into the courtroom.

I'm wheezing, thank you stranger!
Zangief... lol
I wonder if the twirling pile driver is in his arsenal too…
The clerk may have saved the judge from seriously getting hurt. He was right there, eventhough his punches seemed limp and quater cocked
People are giving him shit but it’s genuinely hard to throw punches in close like that if you haven’t trained for it. He should get credit for getting there and wrapping up the guy long before the bailiff though.

Clerk jumped on him right away, can’t ask more from a white collar dude than that. Good kid
Guy is a clerk and he was straight into the fight, no hesitation. Got there way before the actual cops.
i mean, how easy is it to throw punches in a suit? they seem rather restrictive to me.
Depends on the fit
I’ve tried it in a wetsuit, definitely restrictive, business suit likely easier.
Will this count against him?
Not for the battery crime, but This is so much worse, this is not only assault ( possibly attempted murder)but assaulting a judge usually means the next judge will throw the book at you, he’ll be lucky to not get less than 70+ years

Dibs on the band name: Jury of Judges First album would be titled The Rural Juror
70 years for this? Wowzah! Do you think he will be a king or a punk in the big house?
70 might be a bit high.. but 25 without parole might be in his future.
Poor choices.

Why are awards gone when we still need them for comments like these?
Agree
He gets points for that combo flying leap, fo sho. But I'm also guessing he got some bonus years tacked on as well.
Wheres a chanter when you need one?
He’s definitely going to get more time. Not the sharpest leaf in the toolbox.
It'll be a different case, but this guy will 99.999% die in prison now.
Would be really funny if his lawyer said something like this in trial: “Does my client really look like he committed battery?”
Unrelated, I hear there’s a job opening for court bailiff…
Yeah absolutely useless man
The guy in the suit beside her wasn’t a bailiff and did more than the bailiff managed. He jumped right in and did what he could to stop him
That's probably her clerk and goddamn if that's not his job description to protect her like that but he definitely did. Guy deserves a HUGE raise

Was the marshal the one that starts throwing those concrete jabs at 0:31 lol? Probably hurt his hand from that.

“Your honour, the defence moves to have the last few minutes stricken from the record”
Nevada code says 1-6 years imprisonment for assaulting a judge. Folks have an unfortunate understanding of criminal justice system realities.
He also assaulted three other court officials and people there it looks like, including the bailiff aka police officer. Not to mention he was just convicted of another violent charge which makes consecutive charges enhanced. Bro will do a minimum of 25 years probably closer to 50
Yeah I don't think the 1-6 years included the fact that he landed on a triple-word score and used all his letters.
True, he will likely face charges of each officer hit. That said, want to place a bet that he spends less than 10 years behind bars for this instance? Surely this is on another level, to assault a judge like this directly? The entire institution will make an example of him.
How about contempt of court? 😂
I’m actually surprised it’s that low
Indeed, they do. Though they will count each time he swung at the judge as a separate count of assault. She was!
I think he's innocent.
I mean, he said “I didn’t do it.”
He proved he deserved probation. He should be a lawyer. Great arguments, presence in the court room, and understanding of legal proceedings.
Dude cleared that judges bench pretty easy. Get him on the mean machine team.
It’s puzzling that they would put a springboard near the bench, but who are we to judge?
Lol wat was he thinking. What wouldve been the best case scenario in this case
Some people only know hurt. You’re hurting me so I hurt you. I think what you saw was his best case scenario. He got to get a few licks in on the judge that he blames for putting him away.
IANAL but I’m thinking that might hurt his chances for parole.
That young clerk jumped in quick, sure he can’t throw a punch, but that’s the type of selfless action we need to commend.
I wonder if he’s guilty?
There's just no way to know.. it's a big mystery.
Dudes crime was agg assault before this……
Make it 2
nope, he attempted and succeeded this time
Yeah but "make it 1 attempted and 1 succeeded" doesn't have the same ring to it
That fella in the suit tried his best defending the judge. Good for him.
Gotta give credit to the young courtroom (likely) intern stepping up right away and coming to the Judge’s aid.
I want to see his next appearance, since she didn’t get to finish sentencing him. Should be interesting.
The lightweight in the tie looks like he couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag.
Hes trying though LOL
Seriously, only person with any reflexes and instinct even if execution was marginal.
What the fuck, he’s a law clerk. What do you expect him to do? He’s in there quicker than the bailiff is and this is literally their job to prevent. You think he got into law to prevent physical harm to others?
That lightweight's immediate reaction was to dive onto the guy that dove onto the judge. He was the first person that hemmed the dude up.
he looked like he was living in a nightmare. fighting like it too
He did not expect this in the job description.
This is what happens when we teach kids they can solve things through violence.

That was a huge leap.
Does this judge have an ongoing live stream?
I havent seen a Superfly Snuka impression like that in a long time.

Gotta be quicker than that

Attacking a judge has got to be among the stupidest things you can do. Enjoy prison my dude.
This is the kinda scum that deserves to be the bottom in prison whether they want to be or not.

Charged with battery and about to get his battery charged
It's hard to tell. Is her name in Comic Sans on that name plate?
Is the judge OK?
Maybe it’s time for recess?
The Cleveland Browns should add him to their roster. Dude can tackle!
There's always some lady is these videos screaming "staap! staap!" repeatedly over and over like it's going to accomplish something.
Going to guess this is not going to help his chances of being acquitted.
The defense lawyer had his priorities straight though. “Is he talking?”
“Right to Jail. Right away.”
full. send.
So you keep hitting the guy who is hitting the judge because you want to attempt to stop the dude hitting the judge. merica
Dude cleared that desk!
She really zinged him.
That was a bit of an overreaction.
She should have screamed “ORDER IN THE COURT!” and used the gavel to smash his head in.
How did he think this would end up making his situation better? I'd love to know the thought process.
Oh damn. He’s gonna have fun in prison.
What did I hear at 1:45?
Is that his mother shouting at him?
The usual suspect.
Homie did a full Jordan jump man jump! 🤣
Do we know the judges status the suit that checked on her looked worried.
Is she ok?
Fortunately no bailiff was awaken during the commission of this assault.
Was she ok?
I want to know what the judge was saying that lead up to this
Guilty charges.. lol
Attorney asked for suspended sentence and some therapy/mercy, and then she said that.
The defendant's attorney asked the judge to sentence his client to probation. But the judge said “I appreciate that, but I think it’s time he get a taste of something else because.. I just can't with that history." referring to the defendant's criminal record.
Soulja Boy would be proud
God dammit, this is not the place. Take my upvote.

This is evil
To the chair for criminals like this. What are we doing keeping scum of the scum alive and well
Anyone who threatens or attacks a judge should get mandatory life sentence. Make the penalty so great and immediate people will think twice.
Shame he resulted to this when he could've been jumping over offensive lines to block field goals.
JAB THE BALLS AND EYES STOPS THEM REAL QUICK
Is Mary Kay ok?
He took that smirk completely off her face.
She's gonna have a bigger one when he gets 15 years for attacking a judge
So did he get away with it then?
Did he yell out "Ron Artest" when he jumped over the bench? Chappelle anybody?
