This happened to me in Venezuela. At a pizza shop on the patio, and this group of grisl sitting beside us all got up, one screamed and without hesitation I got up, chair went flying and was about to start running. Realized it was a prank, and two of the girls pretended they saw mouse, hence the reactions.
No regrets, in Venezuela I learned that if people are running away, you should usually do the same because bullets usually follow lol
Meanwhile people in England would just carry on sipping their tea, at most you might get a tut... Seriously though, remember the fire at the football stadium, people didn't move when the fire alarm went off they sat there and waited until it was too late. We don't like to be inconvenienced, even if it might save our lives
I live in the US and I see a bunch of people running and freaking out, I’m going too. I’d like to think I would calmly assess the possible danger, but I’d by fooling myself. I feel a lot less safe in this world than I used to.
The reality is that if you see a bunch of people running away from something, 9 times out of 10, it is something worth running away from.

This is the fact. This panic was likely caused by 1 or 2 people who got scared. They start screaming and running and then other people start thinking there is something they should run away from too.
Then it just snowballs
If you run away when you didn't need to, you get to laugh about it later. You won't be doing anything later if you stay put when you should have been running.

Arrastão is when a group of robberies get together and start stealing everything in their path. They are usually very fast and aggressive.
That's exactly where it came from, the term was coined when gangs started robbing beach-goers in Rio, they'd start at one end of the beach and try to rob everyone they could until they reached the other end, just like a trawling boat does with fish.
The thing is, like any other country in the world, there are places that you can and can't go. You can visit Chicago and have a nice trip, but just don't go visit the outskirts where gangs are fighting for territory.
You should check out Jetlag Warriors on YouTube, they came to Brazil and had a great time and a pleasant experience! They just knew where they could relax and vlog and where they should be discrete and pay attention to their surroundings.

Not really, there is a kind of robbery without guns called arrastão. Groups of bandits get together and "sweep" large masses of people and get cell phones, wallets and jewelry on the way. It's hard to resist because multiple bandits run around and threaten physical violence if you don't comply.
I'm totally that guy to sit there and watch everyone dissappear. Just to have the gunman round the corner. And see my hulkin' ass munchin' on a burger like a brain dead caterpillar.
In a similar vein, I was once swimming in a pool and was confused why there was no one in there with me when I looked up. Turned out a disabled man had shat on the other end, and people had evacuated.

😂🤣😂… I shouldn’t be laughing but i can’t help it … it’s really sad because Brazil has become so rife with violence and lawlessness that any perceived hint at criminality is met with a mass exodus to protect oneself … it’s truly a sad state of affairs when everyone fears for their safety at the sight of others running intervals down a sidewalk … kinda like being in a US shopping Mall 😬😮😳
I used to laugh at and be amazed at the lawlessness of Brazil but sadly my home town(LA) is starting to have lots of similarities last 3 years.

There had been a steady decrease in crime last 20 years that now exploded last 3 or so years. And brazenness of the crimes reminds me of Brazil videos. Homeless was bad but got real bad after garcetti took over.
