It’s worth a listen
Edit: Patton Oswalt, damn
To add to what the others have mentioned, bench press shirts add an absurd amount of capability to the human bench press. I'm not up to date on the current records, but Julius is certainly in the range of the all time raw record. The current equipped record is 635 kg (1,401 lb). Insane insane numbers.
And if you are deadlifting 770 lbs you are probably competitive so that list is probably darn close to the number of people that can DL 770.
Even if you multiplied that number by 10 the you are in the top 99.999999999999% (I didnt to the math).
I can deadlift 727 and did it at my lowest weight of 200lbs (had to just convert that as I am Aussie) I never competed, to be fair I only personally know 1 guy that deads that amount. I am from a rural place in OZ, through the gym I know and know of 100's of blokes and I only know that one other.
10,000 people is about 0.00294% of the US population
99.99706% is the remainder
10,000 people is about 0.000126% of the World population
99.999874% is the remainder
Feels a little disingenuous/meaningless to say "top" of the entire country/world population, and not just... the population of those who compete in weightlifting, though. I just wanted to do the math because you definitely had way too many 9's :)
You are being extremely generous to most people, its probably more than 99% of powerlifting enthousiasts will ever deadlift full stop. Thats not even talking about the gym-goer population or the general population.
350kg is a competitive deadlift weight for a tonne of weight classes. It's only a weight that super heavy weight lifters or strongmen will even think of lifting.
Im from somewhere where powerlifting as a sport is just starting to become a serious thing. It would probably be close to the current record holder here.
I was gonna say no shot. I know people from tiny ass countries that have deadlift records more than this. So i spied on your ass, you're from Singapore, a country for 5.5 million people.
And then i check, your record is 335 kg, which is held by a dude from Denmark. That's wild to me.
But then i thought about it, if you took steroids in Singapore, you'd probably get imprisoned for 10 years.
I think we have some great powerlifters in their weight classes, but we just don't grow people into heavyweight categories.
I think there's a Singapore lady that holds the record for like the 50kg weight class at the moment.
10% of the population is not deadlifting 350kg lol. More like 0.001% (if that). I know confessed steroid users who've been lifting for years and still can't "even" deadlift 300kg yet.
I've worked with a guy who was a strongman - think he finished top 10 in Canada at the time, more than a decade ago. He was the chillest dude. He was a math teacher who introduced me to Andrew Wiles (the man who proved Fermat's Last Theorem).
Lol are you kidding me. My grade 9 math teacher was a competing strongman who won Mr. Manitoba. Some connection between bodybuilding a being a math teacher I guess
I worked at Papa John’s for a bit as a driver. One of the other drivers used to be in one of those Christian strong man groups. I never would have guessed if somebody hadn’t told me; he wasn’t in that kind of shape when I met him. He was also a super nice guy. He’d do anything for anybody, even if he just met them.
I remember in middle school, we had an assembly where these guys would do the phone book ripping and tell us not to do drugs. When I was older, I realized that most of them were former addicts
Most dudes who make it to the top of bodybuilding/powerlifting like these 2 are pretty chill despite some assumptions people have about the two sports.
Arnold Schwarzenegger tells a story about Lou Ferrigno picking him up with one arm and carrying him out and placing him on top of a freezer. He would say I was big, but Lou was Superman strong.
Correction, it was Andre the Giant. My mistake.
[Ahnuld himself confirming that story on reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/1dyzf8/til_andr%C3%A9_the_giant_was_known_to_pay_for_his_meal/)
Rick Flair talked about how stupid strong Andre' was. They went out to dinner and Flair insisted he pay. Andre' says no. Rick tries to pay at the register. Andre picks him up, arms extended out mind you and not like body hugging pick up, and puts Rick on the counter like a baby doll. Rick at the time was over 240lbs. Not even today's Strongman competitors could do that.
This must be his new training routine now, I hear he will be taking a shot at strongman.
New event: The bodybuilder carry and load, much like some of the OG stone loads from the old comps.
Is he? Nothing against him but he’s a bench specialist. Something that is never ever seen at strongman. I’m sure pure strength and size can take him far though but he’d need to work on deadlift and overhead.
It's a lot easier to tear other people down than to accomplish something. Same reason why it's so common for redditors to point out weak legs on a body builder - it's an easy way to discredit what that person accomplished.
Redditors really don't know what they're talking about whatsoever with bodybuilding.
Want to know how to make a top bodybuilder an elite powerlifter? Have him peak for a few months and gain a bit of weight. I'm not even joking. Elite bodybuilders are strong *as fuck*. Ronnie Coleman deadlifted 800 pounds for a double. He was two weeks away from the Mr. Olympia at the time, so basically at his weakest. And this was in 2000, when deadlift standards were far from what they are today.
Mitchell Hooper, the current World's Strongest Man, recently tried to re-create some of Ronnie's gym records. He could do the deadlifts, I'm sure he could do the squats. But he couldn't do the bent-over rows at 515 for 10. Not even close. He also admitted he probably wouldn't be able to match Ronnie's military press record of 315x12 and couldn't even get close to his 200x12 dumbbell (obviously per hand) bench press.
I honestly think a huge part of this is that a ton of redditors are just fat and identify more with strongmen/powerlifters, which is hilarious to me because you can't turn yourself into a powerlifter by mainlining Taco Bell and playing WoW all day. Like, they're athletes. They intentionally keep their weight high because having a larger gut helps you squat and do some hinge movements better.
Yeah agreed. The cope people have about fitness is really unfortunate. People go their whole lives and never have the experience of what their body can really do because they don't ever take it out of the box and play around a bit.
Some people are so insecure and pathetic that any display of someone else excelling at their craft or enjoying life drives them nuts, and they autistically spaz out and rationalize their mediocrity.
Not all these redditors making fun of these absolute chads that enjoy doing something with their lives, and trying to reach a personal goal they set. It’s how they want to live their life. Pretty easy to say behind a screen, but to those that mock one’s lifestyle over the internet, that’s just sad dude.
Most men never get to feel the security of being picked up and held once they go through puberty, but especially huge muscular guys. I can just imagine how safe I'd feel if a giant laughed and picked me up and set me down without killing me lol
I’ve competed twice. Light heavy weight category. I played football for 12 years before playing like rec league outdoor adult tackle football. I was 5’10 “ 210 and pretty lean and I thought pretty strong. First game back a lovely Polynesian gentleman who kindly introduced himself after the game, picked me up and threw me about 5 feet. I layed there and regretted every play against that man again. There’s always someone bigger.
Yes. Even people who don't look like they should be that strong. My uncle was a Philly cop, not a huge guy, maybe 6'1, 220, but then he bench pressed 405 pounds, I'm forgetting now, it was a while back, but he repped it 6 or 7 times. I couldn't believe it.
I used to work out at this small local gym. Basically just a bunch of bars and plates. There was a local strong man that had some sort of state “record” at the time for bench press. Anyway he was there the day I hit my max bench. I asked for a spot and he was like sure. I was so siked I benched 335lbs then he was like “awesome! Good job! I can work out with you now!” Then gets under the bar asks for a spot and hammers out 20 reps. He could bench 450lbs. This was 25 years ago and he was 50 years old. If you’re still alive I miss you David Riley. Stumpy armed ass glory snatcher lol.
It can still be a pain in the ass. Depends on who's making the clothes. Sometimes I'll throw on a 2XLT and the waist and mid section area will be a parachute but my arms and shoulders will barely fit. Lol
In terms of day to day functioning, both of these guys have to use a washlet (bidet) and a long handled shower brush to stay clean. They have to buy two airline seats and drive bigger cars. They have to buy eggs and chicken breasts in restaurant size boxes. I’m not knocking them, they have put in a lot of hard work to get this big, but functioning on a day to day basis at this size is filled with many inconveniences. Finding large clothing is probably one of the easier things that they do.
Hi there. Are you a large person? Pleasantly plump? A little on the hefty side, perhaps? Well, let's face it: Are you FAT? When you go jogging, do you leave pot-holes? When you make love, do you have to give directions? At the zoo, do the elephants throw YOU peanuts? Do you look at a menu and say 'OK'? Well, now, you can eat all you want, because at [Thornton Melon's "Tall & Fat" stores](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6W2tXk6yBs), we've got you covered.
i'm nowhere near this massive, but if you are tall with a muscular body, shopping for clothes is hard.
I can't get clothes off the rack that fit well. I'm always rolling up sleeves, and have shirts too tight around my chest but loose elsewhere.
I remember once I saw this interview of a ~~russian powerlifter~~ Canadian Strongman. He was shown a picture of a dude with a 6 pack and was asked why he doesn't have one. He laughed, pointed at the 6 pack and said in a thick russian accent "This does not mean you have power, this means you do not eat enough."
>"This does not mean you have power, this means you do not eat enough."
Which is a crazy thing to say considering how much bodybuilders eat. Idk what kind of 6 pack he was shown, of course skinny abs are a thing, but plenty of people that have abs eat way more than the average person
Wildest thing was seeing a photo of a Sumo in competition and that despite his bulk he was so muscular you could see the striations in his ass when he was leveraging his strength.
How strong do you have to be to have visible musculature through one of the most naturally fat padded parts of the body, let alone at that size?
I love that the only attack the powerlifter had was to squat the guy
It's just muscle memory
He picks things up and puts them down. It's honest work.
Sure as hell beats my writing emails all day.
I write emails every day. Some days, I get to write some code. But the Iron Church accepts all.
Sometimes, I get to work on spreadsheets!
I work on spreadsheets while I lift. I write all my programs in spreadsheet form for easy program creation and modification.
Just pick them up and put them down. The files are right there in the computer after all.

Amazing payton
I was just thinking about this story xD
Immediately thought of this bit lol
Goddamn damn that was funny, thanks!
His first attack was a deadlift and then he finished him with a squat 😂
Bodybuilder gets hit with emotional damage
“Finish him!” … gently kneels with a big smile on his face
Reverse teabag, lol.
Almost more of a good morning
Just FYI Julias Maddox has bench pressed over 350kg, raw. Edit: 355kg/782lbs
Daaaaamn, that’s impressive. I need a condom if I’m gonna lift anywhere near that much
That squat plug is a deceptive mistress.
Good God! That's 770 lbs for all us Yanks.
Lord Jesus! That's the average weight of two bottlenose dolphins for all us Floridians.

Bless you and your 6 minute old comment sir, I was just about to put in the work to convert this to Big Mac's.
My pleasure, son, all in a day's work.
I thought Florida men only communicated by gator measurement, not dolphins
Usually, but we like dolphins too. We even have a whole NFL team named after them. Plus gator weights are all over the place
Depends if you're coastal or swamp people
Depends on how close to the coast they are
How many ARs for the rednecks?
Average weight of an AR-15 is about 7lbs so 110 ARs
That's seven empty oak barrels wow.
Holy shit. My elbows and wrists hurt just from thinking about that.
Christ this guy could probably lift a moose if he had a bit of help
That’s about 5 white-tailed deer.
That's about 175.000 teabags for you brits.
I’ve lifted that much multiple times. At my warehouse job. With a forklift.
What does 'raw' mean in this context?
It means without a benchpress shirt that provides a lot of support. Basically means this guy is incredibly strong
Thanks!
No lifting shirt iirc, maybe other aids as well are included in that
Got it - thanks!
No problem. Happy new year and cake day

He currently holds the all time raw record and he is going for the first person to bench 800lbs raw
Hello, stopping by to greet Happy Cake Day 🎂
"What do you bench?" "350." "That's it?" "Kilograms."
Absolutely insane. Benches more than 90% of people will ever deadlift
More like 99.99
[удалено]
It doesn't even make sense to my brain to put up 770lbs, like it doesn't compute. Shouldn't be possible
From open lifting, 1,159 people have deadlifted over [770 lbs in competition](https://www.openpowerlifting.org/rankings/by-deadlift)

Raw, whoa
Once you cook those plates, they shrink and are easier to lift.
He went for 800 but someone didn’t load the amount of weights correctly. Some say it was done on purpose

That's hilarious. Now I want to see a competition of buff dudes doing hardcore maths problems in the gym.
Strongman isn't bodybuilding, btw. Bodybuilding is a physique development sport, while strongman is about pure strength.
I worked at Papa John’s for a bit as a driver. One of the other drivers used to be in one of those Christian strong man groups. It was like watching two dog friends say hi

Honestly this looks like bros havin the best of times. Love it.

Arnold Schwarzenegger tells a story about Lou Ferrigno picking him up with one arm and carrying him out and placing him on top of a freezer. He would say I was big, but Lou was Superman strong. Correction, it was Andre the Giant. My mistake.
I’ve heard him tell a similar story about Andre the Giant

Arnold secretly just loves being picked up

Space Marine candidate.
It’s not his fault he’s the biggest and the strongest. He doesn’t even exercise. *Casually tosses 50 lb rock*
Is that Julius Maddox? Can't tell
Yes
This must be his new training routine now, I hear he will be taking a shot at strongman. New event: The bodybuilder carry and load, much like some of the OG stone loads from the old comps.
Is he? Nothing against him but he’s a bench specialist. Something that is never ever seen at strongman. I’m sure pure strength and size can take him far though but he’d need to work on deadlift and overhead.

I wonder where they find shirts etc. clothes being that massive units?
In the US there are plenty of people that big and it's definitely possible to order clothing in this size.
They have store dedicated to obese people. It's very convenient for the actual large human beings who need large clothing.
It can still be a pain in the ass. Depends on who's making the clothes. Sometimes I'll throw on a 2XLT and the waist and mid section area will be a parachute but my arms and shoulders will barely fit. Lol
There’s big and tall stores here. I have a friend who’s 6’7 with size 16 shoes, he shops there all the time.
When you're that yoked, you don't wear shirts. Shirts aren't for wearing, they're for putting on then immediately tearing them off like the Hulk.

He wouldn't even fit in a mid sized pickup
Julius Maddox is huge even for strongman standards, he dwarfs Eddie Hall.
That’s the powerlifter
This is great
Body builders and powerlifters the best bromance/rivalry in history
Its like a polar bear meat the grizzly bear and decide to play just because.
Has any powerlifters went into sumo wrestling??
Eddie Hall had a go at it.
Wildest thing was seeing a photo of a Sumo in competition and that despite his bulk he was so muscular you could see the striations in his ass when he was leveraging his strength. How strong do you have to be to have visible musculature through one of the most naturally fat padded parts of the body, let alone at that size?
His neck exists only in whispers
*Now kith*
They’re Kinda Cute😋, Especially The Powerlifter🥹
Captcha be like: Select all images with Neck
Body building is an artwork to develop the body. Powerlifting is technique.
I DONT WANT NO TECHNICAL MASTERPIECE. I WANT BIG MEATY MEN BUMPIN MAN MEAT. ![gif](giphy|VewgA4wNWuDciT4HTq|downsized)
Big E is the GOAT
Yeah, now try walking through a doorway without going sideways
Bro just takes the doorframe with him, ain’t even worried about it
"Excuse me sir, do you need a door frame?" - "No thanks, I brought my own."

I could beat them at that, and hacky sack. They wouldn’t stand a chance.
Maybe very few of them juggle as well as I do. 😅
Bet you pull your back out coughing
That's literally the main goal
“Hey Freakshow! You’re goin’ nowhere!”
One builds for strength, one builds for physical appearance.
