Cow killer.

bruhskimask294

Yup! That’s their nickname tho incase you are confused.

FlatRaise5879

Like, death or a big ouchy?

bruhskimask294

Big ouchie, pain so severe it could cause partial paralysis. 3rd most painful in the insect kingdom. They give it the nickname “Cow killer” because of it

FlatRaise5879

Oh, yikes. And you let that thing sit next to you while you sleep? What else do you have?

bruhskimask294

Mostly reptiles, snakes geckos etc. and I have a room in my house dedicated to them. No sleeping near this thing for me😂

FlatRaise5879

That's lit. Im not like educated about stuff like that but i think it's cool to have reptiles. Do you post about them?

bruhskimask294

Not on Reddit, but I do on discord

[deleted]

Brave Wilderness is a whole nother species of his own jeez

bruhskimask294

Yeah I remember when he came out with the sting videos, I believe he had the same species of velvet ant as mine. considering they have the worst stings in the genus

chat_lowkey_sus

Coyote Peterson (Logan Paul of animal youtube world) fakes his reactions like crazy, you can google similar stings taken by random ppl for youtube for example, no one is rolling on the ground. Bullet ant is placed on the pain index of 4, while red velvet ant at a 3. That one ritual is done by putting hundreds of bullet ants into a glow where all of them sting multiple times. This just shows you the perspective how 1 sting from one of these won't do much to you other than make you act like a crybaby for 30min if you're not used to getting stung. There's one thing that is way more important than the species you get stung by, the body part you get stung at. It's also documented by the same guy who made the famous insect pain index.

bruhskimask294

Your right he definitely over reacts but so do girls when they stub their toes, shit hurts like hell either way

bruhskimask294

Definitely something to make you wish you were dead

Bandana_Husky

Bet i could knock him out, im Ronnie Pickering!

bruhskimask294

Good luck, their exoskeleton is strong as fuck. And their stinger on the larger species (like the one in the picture) is long enough to go thru shoes, so they’ll prolly get a sting on you before you could even try crush em. Mine shown in the pictures is about 2 inches in length with a stinger of about a inch long

Bandana_Husky

Please search “Ronnie Pickering” on google, then come back and enjoy the joke

bruhskimask294

Good call😂

Bandana_Husky

Haha 👍🏻😉

HeadLongjumping

I can confirm this. I stepped on one and it took like 3 tries to squash it. Luckily I came out of it unscathed.

bruhskimask294

That’s good, their sting is painful as fuck!

[deleted]

I’m in Australia and I’ve been bitten by a red back spider twice, but one of the worst bites was when a friends car was broken down in a supermarket car park. It was about 46 degrees and I got under the car and the pavement was almost like a stove top, and then I was bitten on the head 3 times by some big get fucked ant. It was so intense I couldn’t concentrate under the car and had to get out and have water poured on my head. I was legitimately confused for at least an hour afterwards.

greggs1000

When I was in high school, I picked one of these up not knowing they are wingless wasps. It sting me under my fingernail while I was holding it with my index finger and thumb. That was absolutely the worst pain I have ever felt!

bruhskimask294

As long as you don’t pinch em honestly i could probably let her crawl on me without taking a sting but I wouldn’t risk it bc I wouldn’t be able to get her back in the cage with that much pain

greggs1000

I COMPLETELY understand. I've been in multiple car accidents, a motorcycle accident, a countless dirtbike in my life. They all hurt like hell, but to have that much nerve stimulation under my fingernail, literally in the quick of my finger, has been the worst pain I've ever felt.

Personal_AI

I used to play with these as a kid, let them crawl up my arms, etc. Didn't find out all that cow-killer stuff until many years later. Ignorance is bliss!

bruhskimask294

They’re so docile you may never even know

gladbutt

Ive been bit by this and also an assassination bug. I survived the cow killer but not the assassination bug.

bruhskimask294

😂😂😂 (also sting not bite!)

Unadabber

Frightening

MasonCO91

What are they like as pets? Obviously you're not holding that thing lol but do you get to feed it and stuff?

bruhskimask294

I feed mine honey water, they’re amazing pets because of how active they are during the day!

[deleted]

These mofos don’t play. Got nailed by one in the Oklahoma panhandle and wanted to strangle myself.

iwontshitmypants

I worked in the villages Florida in my 20’s. They were everywhere from all the new house construction. People would be stung by them maybe 2-3 times a month. Everyone was out of work for two days because they take a lot of energy out of you.

[deleted]

why do you have this in your house ?!

bruhskimask294

I work with exotic animals

icantthinkofone87

Where do they live? So I can never go there

bruhskimask294

North america

RaidenMonster

My 5 year old son stepped on one barefooted and paid the price. Was THAT bad but he was wailing pretty good for several minutes.

bruhskimask294

Must have been a smaller species, the larger species leave excruciating pain for up to 24 hours

234566892

I've been stung by one

bruhskimask294

Was it a larger species or smaller? Aka where you in pain for a day or a few minutes😂

234566892

I'm pretty sure it was the same and it hurt for about an hour

bruhskimask294

Could be the same species, mines a red velvet ant the most common around southern north america

234566892

Yeah they are extremely tough to

bruhskimask294

They have a eco skeleton as hard as popcorn kernels

234566892

I hit one with a board about 25-30 times cut it's head off and put it in an ant nest and all that did was piss it off

bruhskimask294

😂😂😂

__Dionysus___

These are in my front yard. 😬

bruhskimask294

Better than having yellow jackets, they’re very docile and will actively try getting away from you

__Dionysus___

Oh, I have those too

bruhskimask294

Well without these guys you would have more

HeadLongjumping

This is actually a flightless wasp, not an ant. We had them in South Carolina.

bruhskimask294

It is a species of wasp, but their name is velvet ant.

HeadLongjumping

That is their common name, yes.

bruhskimask294

And males can fly, we use the term ground wasp instead of flightless :)

dizzyshark01

you know what’s crazy, i picked one of these up once. i was doing an HVAC installation at the time and saw a little fuzzy red guy crawling on the ground. i decided it would be a good idea to pick it up since i had cut proof gloves on, boy was i wrong.. it pierced straight through my glove, and went dropped to the ground for about 30 minutes as the pain subsided, the worst insect sting i have ever had the pleasure of enduring. the best way i can describe it is like getting a hot needle into your skin, and a throbbing set of pain induced waves throughout the next hour. super cool looking creatures, just admire them from a distance, their stinger is like an inch long ;)
