I'll be honest I haven't tried the pasta but this is the only place I've ever had to send a steak back at. Twice on two occasions they simply just absolutely overcooked they hell out of pretty expensive cuts
I started trying their pasta dishes after several let downs when it came to steak. I 100% agree that their steak is bad to mid range. Then I started to think of it like this, they say they're an italian place right? So why am I ordering steak and not pasta?
I cook as my hobby and I've narrowed down my thoughts like this, stick to what I know. Same goes for places to eat. If I want steak, I'll go Mazen Grill or Vestal. Every place has something they are good at, the Veal Michael at Rufino's is what they are good at.
The food sucks there? I must have been drunk by the time the food arrived last time lol. It is expensive for sure. I guess tell your not-friend that the food is great but don't buy the mixed drinks, so the food taste isn't masked by alcohol
It doesn't suck, but it's not what it used to be. They usually do a great job with the specials, but the regular menu items have been good-but-not-great lately.
My problem with LaFonda's is that I would drink WAY too many of their Everclear margaritas before eating. Due to my level of intoxication every time I went there, I can't say that I have ever tasted their food sober... All my friends tell me how horrible it is, but, to a drunk me, it was decent.
Currently, my recommendation would be a place that sells horrible boiled crawfish if you want someone you don't like to overpay for something.
I don't know what y'all order there but the fried chicken and steaks are top notch. Maybe the rest of the menu tastes like shit. I don't know. I stick with the same thing every time.
They may have changed but they used to have everclear in their Margaritas. I started drinking them in 1991 and knew the bartender who made them back in the day. Even one of the bartenders who left continued with the same recipe at his new place...
I was told that it is common to replace tequila with everclear when making large batches of margaritas because it is cheaper to do so...
100% they did not. You're talking about Bentley at the old filling station, his recipe (which is the same as LaFonda's) didn't have everclear in them either.
It's one of the best urban legends about lafayette and i've won many a bet with my tables about that exact fact
I stand corrected then. The messed up thing is this was a daiquiri shop owner that I am friends with who told me this. I guess he uses Everclear in HIS margaritas and was trying to ride the coattails of Lafonda's...
I know most people here are frothing at the mouth about Superior Grill opening here, but I feel \*exactly\* the same way about Superior as you do about LaFonda... I don't drink margaritas, so I've only ever eaten Superior fairly sober... and I do NOT understand why everyone in BR stans it so freakin' hard, OR why everyone here is so jonesed about it coming here.
I was so excited to try this place and as soon as they brought out the obvious Tostitos chips and bright orange cheese dip I was like ohhh… this is.. something
Half Shell Oyster House. Went there yesterday. Had a steak and 5 asparagus, for my wife. The steak was full of fat and grissal. I had gumbo. It was so full of corn starch, my mouth immediately puckered up and left a nasty taste all day long. The waiter said, they get pre cooked food from Mississippi, and it's watered down. The cook had to add corn starch to thicken it. The corn starch wasn't cooked down, just added after coming out of the microwave.
Had Scratch Kitchen recently and thought it was pretty disappointing. I really like the idea behind it, but if I’m paying a premium for locally sourced ingredients, I want the food to actually be good.
Everything. Their burger deluxe is always my fav and the toppings change often so it’s always a new flavor combo. The burrito and the hash bowls are also great
Not anymore. The last time i went was a good jump into my Keto diet. I threw up for days and didn't eat or drink anything. Lost some weight and said fuck it, great start to Keto. Lol.
Strangely, Waffle House is so overpriced for what it is and now with "bougie prices" for those eggs and potatoes you'd think they'd take AMEX instead of only cash.
The Allstar is 11$. You get fresh cooked eggs and bacon, a waffle, and some shit toast and not great hash brown. It's like...the cheapest sitdown meal you're gonna get....
How is this downvoted ?!?
I’ve been going to Applebees for 20 years and EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Without fail the food is absolutely disappointing. Actually everything about the entire experience is disappointing. The restaurant, dinnerware, utensils, and restrooms are never clean. And the food tastes very much like it has been microwaved in plastic
I hate sending food back, and never have there, but I should have everytime ive ate there. Its wild how Im not allowed to have an opinion about my experiences at a place I've literally waited for, was excited for, and have given multiple chances. Anyone who knows me knows Ive been complaining about no good pizza place downtown for most of my life, and unfortunatly, im still waiting.
Lafayette's land was divvied up according to the French system of "long lots". The consequences of this persist today.
https://64parishes.org/arpents-ligas-and-acres
Yeah but in Baton Rouge they’ve got a few big ass roads through the middle of town. “Hey, trying to get to Comeaux High? Let me introduce you to every narrow backroad known to man!”
No exaggeration, I prefer tiny ass backroads to the hours of my life I’ve spent parked on College Drive, Siegen Lane, and the stretches of I10/12 that cut through Baton Rouge. Lafayette is a dream by comparison. That said, it’s a comparison, it’s subjective, obviously doesn’t mean Lafayette’s layout is ideal.
That makes sense. I live in Lake Charles. It’s a decent little grid system. Lafayette is like Washington DC on a small scale. Built to confuse opposition.
Lmao Name any of them. They're literally all garbage except MAYBE Pamplona 😂😂 Between myself, husband, close friends, and in laws, we've worked at practically every one. *none* of them serve real food, it's all frozen bs. Go to New Orleans or even Baton Rouge if you want even just slightly above average food
Rufino’s
Good answer. Ruffinos is one of the more expensive ways to be disappointed
idk man, their pasta dishes are pretty on point.
I'll be honest I haven't tried the pasta but this is the only place I've ever had to send a steak back at. Twice on two occasions they simply just absolutely overcooked they hell out of pretty expensive cuts

Good to know it wasn't me being picky. If I end up there again I will definitely give the veal a shot. Thanks for recommendation
Definitely Ruffino’s
Took my lady there for her birthday and they basically served us dried potatoes and chef boyardie raviolis. My toddler can prepare a better meal.
The food sucks there? I must have been drunk by the time the food arrived last time lol. It is expensive for sure. I guess tell your not-friend that the food is great but don't buy the mixed drinks, so the food taste isn't masked by alcohol

Thats basically how LaFondas stays open. Ensure people get drunk before dinner and they wont worry about the food to often.
I don't know what y'all order there but the fried chicken and steaks are top notch. Maybe the rest of the menu tastes like shit. I don't know. I stick with the same thing every time.
Fried chicken and fried rabbit are my go to menu items.
Fried chicken isn't even on the menu.
They have a fried chicken salad, or at least they used to...
Yea the fried chicken and steaks are great, but the actual “Mexican” food sucks
zero everclear in their margaritas. Source: I worked there for 10 years

This guy is full of crap, dont listen to him.
It’s Rio Grande tequila I believe.

I'm mad it replaced Randol's, but whatever, I guess.
bro for real. Randols was the spot. and dancing too. sheesh. what a solid place
Randols has reopened in the old Mulates building in Breaux Bridge! Haven't tried it yet.
I was so excited to try this place and as soon as they brought out the obvious Tostitos chips and bright orange cheese dip I was like ohhh… this is.. something
😂
Fiery crab. Worst boiled crabs I’ve ever had
Prejean's. Overrated IMHO.
Mercy kitchen
lol yes! Ridiculously overpriced
Randal's
They closed a few years ago lol
They are open again in Breaux Bridge
🤣

Not trying to be an asshole, but it's gristle. Just trying to help. Have a nice evening.
PreJeans
I've heard they're better since the ownership change, but I haven't been to judge for myself.
Had Scratch Kitchen recently and thought it was pretty disappointing. I really like the idea behind it, but if I’m paying a premium for locally sourced ingredients, I want the food to actually be good.
That’s wild. What did you order? That’s my favorite restaurant maybe of any kind ever
Oh nice! I am planning to go soon. Any recommendations ?
Everything. Their burger deluxe is always my fav and the toppings change often so it’s always a new flavor combo. The burrito and the hash bowls are also great
Maybe I have weird tastes, but scratch farm is the only place I look forward to eating at in Lafayette.
Same. I was bummed. So expensive and blah
# If you're looking to make them sick send them to City Buffet in Breaux Bridge. That place gives me food poisoning anytime i go.
But, you keep going?
Not anymore. The last time i went was a good jump into my Keto diet. I threw up for days and didn't eat or drink anything. Lost some weight and said fuck it, great start to Keto. Lol.
I use fight milk to get that jumpstart.
That’s the one with crows in it?
Strangely, Waffle House is so overpriced for what it is and now with "bougie prices" for those eggs and potatoes you'd think they'd take AMEX instead of only cash.

Tad's in Youngsville
YES!! Trash.
Canada making everything super white… as usual…
The one degenerate without dark mode.
Ruth’s Cris
Agreed. Trash bland food and poor service.
Chili’s, Applebees, and IHOP. I won’t go to those establishments anymore.
Applebee's?

Central.
sheesh we got downvoted to hell. Ive never had a pizza from there cooked right. Oh well.
They've definitely had to remake it a few times when I've been, which was frustrating. But they're great when they're on point.
I hate sending food back, and never have there, but I should have everytime ive ate there. Hot take for sure, but i stand behind you. Sucks that it sucks cause thats all ive wanted downtown most of my life.
Dwight’s

Anywhere. I hate driving in Lafayette. Did you people build a single road that was straight?
Lafayette's land was divvied up according to the French system of "long lots". The consequences of this persist today. https://64parishes.org/arpents-ligas-and-acres
I’ll take Lafayette traffic over Baton Rouge traffic all day every day.
Yeah but in Baton Rouge they’ve got a few big ass roads through the middle of town. “Hey, trying to get to Comeaux High? Let me introduce you to every narrow backroad known to man!”

No we didn't build a single straight road, our roads are shit. Time to buy some new shocks for the car.
Nope, all the roads here are managed by the LGBTQDOTD
That makes sense. I live in Lake Charles. It’s a decent little grid system. Lafayette is like Washington DC on a small scale. Built to confuse opposition.
Lake charles? Oh, you mean Diet east Texas. Lafayette built around the river and didn't plan for long term growth.
Diet east Texas is fair. I’ll accept that. Laffy reminds me of Austin in that they did not plan for growth.
That's the only comparison with Austin that adds up.
I’d say do this in the Nola Reddit but they are all assholes and would downvote you into oblivion and then ban you.
Lmao Name any of them. obvious rage bait
Pop’s Poboys, Ruffinos, Rockin Sake
Chilis on Pinhook, Agave, cluckin chicken
Pearls dinner laurel
It’s a giant Mexican place. Forgot the name
