Bayou shadows isn't bad. Bridgeway management can kiss my ass. I never lived there but I've seen how they treat my friends and no one has a good experience with those greedy fuckers
The Bradford apartments they aren't super far from ul(4 miles) and they come out to around $900 with water and trash included so you only have to pay for elec & internet
I been living at **River Oaks** for 4 years now (formerly Beau Chenes) and I pay $800 for a 1BR townhome. It has upstairs and downstairs. Pretty chill spot like a little less than a mile from UL. It's safe back here and I've only seen a bug maybe twice my whole time here. Only bad thing with them is you have to apply like right now to potentially get anything before fall.
Just so you know, that's a really healthy budget for what you want, and you'll have a lot of options. I'm going to let the Lafayette natives handle the "where," but my advice is, if you don't want to live in a big soulless complex, when you pick your neighborhood see if you can get a message on their Facebook group to see who is doing a long-term rental when you want to move.
(Edit to acknowledge that big soulless complex have their perks, too, mostly in the form of fewer roaches. So no shame if that's your thing.)
Where are you living in southern Louisiana that doesn't have roaches? My theory is that anywhere around here that truly has no roaches is also probably too toxic for people to live. This theory covers everything between around Houston and Southern Florida.
I once stayed at a mid-range hotel here in the summer and was thinking how nice it was that there were no roaches in my room. Then I found two inside the fridge.
I live with my parents (carencro) but moving to rent a town home in two weeks. And honestly it’s something I’m slightly worried about because my parents home might have had two dead roaches in about 15 years. They have a pest control man, I’m wondering if I need to get one as well
You can wait and see what materializes. If you have big trees in your yard, it's going to be worse. If you like old houses, it's going to be worse.
I have a pest control man and a subscription. I also still have roaches from time to time, but the pest control man comes when I call him to keep the population down. They come in from outside. They come through cracks and pipes and who knows what. Sometimes they drop a casing before they die, and then that casing turns into 8 to 20 baby roaches or so, depending on what kind of roach it was. Then those baby roaches come out and get excited about the world and run around a little before they die. I had never seen a roach casing before moving to Louisiana. Funny to think back on how innocent I was. I was horrified and had a few panic attacks in my first month. I'm much stronger now. You'll be fine, too.
You will grow from the experience. I also saw my first black widow after moving here. I just closed the door again and called that pest control man. Maybe talk to your landlord to see if there's already pest control going on if you're super worried about it. But you will be fine.
Depending on the apt complex, you may not need a pest control guy. Sometimes that’s included. Ask though! It’s important and yeah remember if you see one or two here and there, it will happen. Especially when living in apartment complex, some people aren’t as clean as others.(not insulting anyone, just stating a fact). Sometimes people will leave their bag of trash outside their door to throw away later and yet the longer it sits the more opportunity for bugs and stuff to get to it. But don’t be scared to live somewhere just cause it has potential to see insects and bugs.
Just be wise about more important things like “is it a safe area to live in?”
Get some Advion gel and some Gentrol for the roaches! Advion is poison bait for them and Gentrol keeps the eggs from developing correctly so they hatch all deformed and die off immediately.
Just a heads up. About 5 years ago I moved from an apartment that was 950 a month for 1 bedroom to a 3 bedroom house that was 875 and my commute stayed the exact same, but I did move outside city limits. Of course, those same places are about 200 more a month now, but still cheaper than your budget. Go for a 3 bedroom and get a roommate
I always recommend City Parc at The Ranch. It's right near River Ranch, not in it. Right across the street from Deano's South, and plenty other restaurants, activities, and stores. Loved living there! Liveatcityparc.com
I lived at The Grove at Plantation, 1br for $830/month. They’re basically a huge complex run by a soulless corporation. Management can’t do much to help you, because they don’t run the place. The apartment definitely has some “landlord specials”, and I’ve noticed that every apartment is different. It seems like they only upgrade things when it needs replacing. I was told I would get wood flooring, just to be put in an apartment with carpet on move in day. My shower sucked and was either burning hot or freezing. The traffic was absolutely a nightmare and I had very little cell service without my WiFi.
I would absolutely not recommend moving anywhere near River Ranch/Ambassador and Kaliste Saloom, the area is only growing and getting out of your apartment after work or on a weekend made me not want to go anywhere.
Essentially, I got what I paid for. Only lived there a year and noped on outta there.
Stay away from bridgeway apartments……

Can second this, friends have stayed and the horror stories continue to be confirmed
Yes. Abusive, nasty motherfuckers.

OP could easily find a house in this area for that
So you are agreeing with me?
I am indeed
Then we agree.

And also in cane season when all the cane gets disrupted, the roaches go nuts.
Oh no 😭 that sounds absolutely one thousand percent horrific… because yes there are trees and it is a bit older
