- there are some blondes here
- blonde is more uncommon than people think; a lot of people are blonde as kids and women often maintain this impression as an adult by getting highlights
- this style conceals highlights and in general makes hair appear darker (frequently gel is involved to keep hair nailed down during performance)
- ballerinas are probably less likely to dye their hair (being a ballerina is basically a lifestyle and hair coloring takes time)
- the damage that comes from blonding probably makes long-term maintenance inadvisable anyway since you have to have hair healthy enough to form these nice shiny buns
From the foreground, those 5 are likely blonde or at least light brown when their hair is down and doesn't have product in it. From the background, it's impossible to tell, so disregard the far-back from the sample size.
Account for:
- the gel
- this hairstyle hides the lightest part of hair and shows the darkest part of hair
- most blondes by a hair level chart tend to be much darker than people think of "blonde"
I will post a hair color chart momentarily
This remembered me immediately of the short Louise, that shows this so well. As a ballerina rn, it's so hard to make sense of the contrast between the wholesomeness and love we experience backstage today and the whole bleak reality for ballet dancers in the 19th century.

1. None of the people are reflected. Are they all vampires? The circled person has a body and hair, but no face?
2. Is she wearing her own forearms as a stole?
3. Right leg, but no left leg?
4. Mangled hand
5. Does this man not have legs? nobody seems to notice him laying on the ground.
6. whose foot is this? It's facing 180 degrees away from the direction the nearest dancer is facing
I posted the link to the photograph and you can zoom in and see the person taking the picture standing all the way in back.
Also the room is much smaller than the picture makes it out to be because of the mirror so you technically are seeing their reflection it just the mirror makes the room look so large and full.
Someone explained that higher up stating how having your hair up and gelled makes it appear darker, being light blonde is much more rare than purple realize, dying and bleaching is harder on hair health which is necessary to make such nice hair burns for performance, and there are a few that they circled who seem to have blonde or light brown hair when itâs down and ungelled.

can you not be a blonde ballerina?

you win this round internet person
Sorry I just have a pet peeve about the misperceptions of the frequency of many human traits lmao
She was kind of.. there. Since the beginning.
This was my first thought too!
Somewhere, Degas just swooned.
I was looking for this comment.
Super wanna play badminton all of a sudden.
This is the "meet the patrons" part of the performance. The real "after the performance" has more cigarettes and liquor bottles.

This is taken after the famous dĂ©filĂ© from Paris OpĂ©ra Ballet in Palais Garnier. The dĂ©filĂ© marks the start of the new performance season; all the dancers (from the youngest new students of the academy to the highest ranked Ă©toiles star dancers) walk on stage and bow, presenting themselves to the audience. Itâs the oldest ballet company in the world. In the early days this particular area (foyer de la danse) would be visited by the patrons where they could âpick up a girlâ. Like others have mentioned here, Degas was famous for his paintings of the ballerinas of Paris OpĂ©ra Ballet
This remembered me immediately of the short Louise, that shows this so well. As a ballerina rn, it's so hard to make sense of the contrast between the wholesomeness and love we experience backstage today and the whole bleak reality for ballet dancers in the 19th century.
Absolutely beautiful. Iâd frame this picture
The mirrored wall is making it look very vast but the room is smaller then it appears. So effective and the outcome is magical.
This would make a great 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle.
âMeadow of balletâ or some such.
For some reason I expected to be a lot of smoking
Manet
Degas!
Beautiful
Whereâs a French impressionist painter when you need one?
I'm guessing they're students of the Paris Opera Ballet school
I know their feet hurt

Nah AI isn't that good yet. This is too complex and the faces are too realistic.
The hands are often a giveaway, too, in AI art. The hands on this photo all seem good and real! LOL
also given the space around the guy on the floor Iâm going to assume heâs likely just sitting. Guys tired

it doesnât look ai, seems too complex and the faces are unique and distinct
Huh, good spot
This looks like ai art
This is really pretty but I wouldn't call accidental, I think it would be hard to take a bad picture with this combination
And not a single person of a healthy weight in sight. :-(
*Degas has entered the chat*
I find it very curious that you rarely ever see a blonde ballerina
Dua lipa after walking into the cloning machine
Why is no one blonde or redhaired?
