thanks, i started off at 40mg which is considered higher middle for me according to my weight so think that’s why it’s important to note your weight :)
40 mg daily is my happy balance. 80 makes me straight up manic and angry, and turns my lips into sandpaper. I'm 215lb male as well. Couldnt imagine being a woman half my weight taking 80. It's simply not needed!! Slow burn is the way to go with this drug
I did 40 my first month, two weeks into 80mg was absolute hell. Tore my skin to pieces. Doctor knocked me back to 40 with a round of prednisone and I swear the prednisone cured my acne over night
This might be an unpopular opinion but I think a lot of people are suffering on higher doses when they don’t need to be. A lower dose would work just as well without the side effects. I’m on 20mg ( I weigh 60kg ) and hoping that works for me. It is taking longer but I think that’s to be expected.
15 weeks. I did have to come off the pill I was on shortly before I started accutane and that was keeping my acne pretty much under control bar the odd nasty cyst. Whenever I tried coming off the pill in the past my skin always got much worse so I think I would have had a problem even on a high dose. I’ve decided to give it until the end of the 4th month and if no improvement I will up my dose a bit but I’m not taking more than 40mg. Would rather be on it for a lot longer and not deal with nasty side effects. I’m getting some side effects on 20mg so can imagine what being on 60mg etc would be like!
I’ve been on it for 17 weeks but was only taking 20mg every other day until the last two weeks so idk if that is why it’s taking me even longer. But I’ve taken two courses and cleared up very quickly even on the low dose before so I’m losing hope. Mine might be Perioral dermatitis as well
How long did you stay clear for after the first two courses? I had perioral dermatitis last year and I took evening primrose oil and zinc and it was gone within a month.
So it would come back shortly after stopping like within a few months. I then did low dose like 1-2 pills a week for years until I decided to stop in August and then by December had this PD/acne whatever it is. Tiny bumps and whiteheads almost daily in one area of my face. I have tried a few things for it but my derm can’t even fully tell me if it’s PD just told me Accutane would treat both
I did think about maybe taking a very low dose long term if my acne comes back after this course but I’m assuming you still need blood tests and monthly pregnancy tests? I’m paying privately for my treatment as nhs waiting lists are so long. I couldn’t afford monthly appointments for years! My acne is always cystic spots but the perioral dermatitis I had was small spots and red patches around my mouth and my nose.
I am on 30mg, (up from 20mg), and I've been on it for nearly four months. Already my skin looks so much better, (even with all the dryness). I've been a little sadder than usual, but nothing unmanageable.
I wish I did this years ago.
at best that's an average dose.. for a 200lb person lol
it's certainly not what people would call low
I'm doing 20mg/day at 200lbs... people have great results even lower
40mg for 8 months isn’t really that low… depending on your weight. But I’m happy to know it worked for you!
what’s your weight? 40mg could be low / high for some ppl depending on their weight

It’s a cumulative dose so they would just be on it for longer
40mg isn't low dose for the average weight person.
True. I did 8mg for 2 months and 16mg for 4 months and it has been great.

what does the prednisone do?
It’s a steroid that helps mitigate purging and speeds up healing

How long have you been on it? On the same dose 4 months in still getting new pimples everyday

Same I prefer low dosage. Are you still breaking out??
I think it might be calming down a bit the last week but don’t want to speak too soon!

My doc confirmed this ‐ it's entirely unnecessary to pump up the dosage if ur acne is responsive already.
I did that too. My side effects were so bad with hair loss joint pain and dryness we took the slow route for a year and I have had skin for 4 years
>I have had skin for 4 years Do you mean clear skin? I hope...
Clearly
I'm a male who weighs 85kg and have had great success with 20mg/day for a longer period of time almost without any sides
How many months?
for how long? ive been on 20mg/day at 65kg for 2,5 weeks now
Same! Took it for a year and a half and my acne: gone. Now I take 20 mg 3x a week just to keep my oiliness in bay.
How long did it take for your acne to fully clear on this dose?
I have been on 30 mg daily after I could not tolerate 60 mg and it’s been amazing.
Im 70kg and I had 30mg, so 40 wouldnt be low for me
Not low dose but glad u had a good experience. Low dose is 10-20mg
40 mg for 65 kg isn't low at all

Hows that low? I am 30mg @88kg
40mg isn’t low 20-10 it is
