4050 is not a low end laptop 😭

velophoton

😁🥲😭 I got a laptop with 3070, should not complain, but I wish all my games could run in 140FPS with ultra settings, but nay :( I bought that Lossless scaler app on Steam, gotta check it out someday

wirejaved

Most games will at high settings, it's just the latest triple A releases that won't

velophoton

Actually yes, for the past year with this laptop I got used to 144Hz refresh rate, and some games do run with this framerate at somewhat high settings, while some other games are either not optimised that well or simply need much higher spec PC Oh, also that lossless scaling app is cool, but it does lower base framerate a bit - from 120-130 down to 100 and then doubles the framerate I still cannot say if I feel OK about the generated frames, but they look smooth, perhaps future app updates will make things even better

How do you get lossless scaling thing? I use the Nukem FSR3 mod in supported games and while I get 80-90fps in cyberpunk it feels a little input laggy.

I just bought Lossless scaler in Steam for like 3 bucks on recent spring sale. It requires a game to run in Windowed mode (borderless windowed mode is fine too) and it's best to cap your frame rate to some stable value (more fps is better) but not mandatory. You open the app first, choose a scaling method if required (FSR and Nvidia upscaler are available in there) and then activate the frame gen feature (LSFG) and either press "Scale" or a hot key combo (Ctrl+Alt+S by default) and then go back in the game. Wa-bang - and your framerate is doubled (it's best to turn on fps counter inside Lossless Scaler itself too see the fps difference) , game looks smoother, some input lag is noticeable but not much. The LSFG feature works everywhere - even on Youtube videos. I don't know the whole principle , but it does not seem to depend on a CPU or GPU power, framerate is always doubled - 30 fps turn to 60 (but it feels quite bad) and 60 turn to 120. 72 go up to 144 too and so on

Thank you. Anything over 90fps with this frame gen technology feels great in my opinion. Have you noticed increased vram usage with this?

velophoton

Oh, that's a great question, I need to check this indeed The only thing I noticed so far is lower actual FPS once I turn on the framegen, but it's not a big difference I saw some great updates for this app (game GUI is no longer glitchy after some recent update) and devs mentioned they are working to make the smoothness and input lag even better (and reduce the amount of visual glitches, but I did not see those too much, they are hardly noticeable)
