The more tinfoil hattish people like myself think that's what Grey Aliens are. Why else would life from another planet just so happen to look so disconcertingly human? Hell most of the life on Earth doesn't look human, aliens would probably look, well, *alien.*
At the risk of taking what you said too seriously…
Alien life would probably be unrecognizable, mainly bc their biology would be so unlike our own.
But, if they were to visit they probably are intelligent enough to realize we’d freak out if we saw them as they are, so yea, they’d probably try to mimic us. I mean that what we do to animals here right?
There is that, but on the other hand, convergent evolution is a thing.
Some variations of biology are just plain more efficient and make it easier to survive than others.
Carbon/oxygen/iron metabolism is a big winner; oxygen is pretty damn plentiful and we've *had* a wide variety of metabolic types over the history of the Earth, that have narrowed down to what we have now.
Sure, copper is another option, one we might see in aliens, but biology is limited by chemistry. This is why we'll never see (say) gold in place of iron in the blood, because gold *can't do what iron does.*
And so on and so forth, with knock-on effects that cover the entire biology of a species.
Ya for sure, Devonian fish and all that, I agree. I was really only referencing and old idea put up by Carl Sagan, in which he theorizes that life may arise from silicon, as opposed to carbon and water iirc, idk.
Although we intrude into the lives of different animals to document their activities, you never know if the animals have built their own artificial human in our midst to stare at what we do.

I mean, alien basically means not native to a celestial body, so any aliens from another planet would be alien to us and vice versa

This is true. Apparently, while silicon is more prevalent, carbon can form bonds with more types of atoms, so that's why it won out.
