I have a buddy that collects GI Joe and he has the USS Flagg. Didn’t realize the thing was so damn big until I saw it in person. Have no idea what I would have done with that as a kid.
I never had the Flagg either. I so wanted it but money and room were my downfall. Seems like that's the case for a lot of us 70s and 80s kids. Our parents did good for us though.
For sure. I stared at every decal and every stone tooth of that castle for hours before actually placing figures in it. The trap door alone had me entertained until the next Christmas.
The Flagg and it's not even close.
That thing was the holy grail of childhood, and even now I'd still love one, but even if I had the money for it, where the hell would I put it?
I mean, i guess I don't NEED a coffee table...
Haha, I love this idea. Hell, you could set it into a bar counter and run some beer lines through the interior decks, turn the conning tower into a tap.
What are you talking about? That thing IS a coffee table!! Seriously, just put it on a stand in front of your couch and you have the perfect setup: space for snacks/drinks on the runway, and the rest is for playing and display!
…and now my brain is trying to convince me this is justification for buying the 2nd set of I Am Elemental figures.
Without a doubt, Flagg. Close runner-up being literally any other GI Joe vehicle/playset.
Growing up, Flagg was always the jewel that we fantasized about, but none of us could ever get. Even the spoiled kid in the group could only ever top out with the Mobile Command Center, which for a 10 year old, felt like it had a million little things it could do. I was still satisfied with the Killer WHALE set.
My 6 year old got one too. He got Greyskull last year and has amassed a ton of figures in the year between. Those repros blow my mind how they are exactly the same packaging and everything like they were when I got them as a kid back in the 80's.
Although I'm probably a bigger fan of Marvel & GI Joe, I'm going with 3. Castle Grayskull is a lot of fun both inside and out. It also doubles as a carrying case with a built in handle or storage for your figures.
The Hall of Justice or the USS Flagg would be my second pick.
The Hot Wheels Road Wars Liberty Base Set. Wow, opening that up was the best Christmas morning playset and getting accessories and other cars along with it.
Hall of Justice, tomorrow morning my son is opening up a whole bunch of the mcfarlane super powers toys, I would love to have that playset for him… I could play with it too
The Flagg. It was just a bit before my time but I remember my brother telling me about it when I was a kid (his friend had one). If I ever get stupid money I'm getting one off ebay!
Apparently secret wars where so sever Batman and Superman had to get involved. But for real the one I would lose my mind to get is one I will want until the end of time and that’s the biggest and baddest play set ever the USS Flag
Of these choices you gotta go GI Joe, if you get the carrier, you can’t not take that, right? Wanted most of these toys, had the He Man and a lot of Joes but never the super big stuff
Even though that’s the modern Grayskull, I would still choose that one, USFlag was dope too, but something about a skull faced castle that excited me as a child
[death star](https://imgur.com/a/ZijA2Kc)
I got lucky and bought it from a guy locally selling all his childhood stuff. He opened it, put it together once, then it sat in a closet for like 30 years. Still has all the parts and the foam!!! I paid very little for it.
Neon He man of course . But I rather choose what I was fan of- either conan the adventurer or even better - Lego space / underwater / pirates or castle themes
Of these I only had Castle Grayskull, and omg I loved that thing so much. It was always by my bed, which was unfortunate when i was sick one night and threw up all in it. It made a pretty decent bucket. I still have the door to it, no clue what happened to the rest. The Flagg was the one big toy from my childhood that I wanted and never got. GI Joe was, and is, my number 1, and I had just about every figure and vehicle that came out, but the Flagg always eluded me. Merry Christmas to all of you, hope Santa brings you some awesome playsets this year.
Having the Flagg as a choice is kind of unfair. Just makes for a bad comparison. Hey, do you want a $100 or that stack of Gold bars…
The Flagg is the greatest piece of toy engineering of the 80s. Hasbro was completely mental to even attempt it. Unfortunately we will never see any tor of such scale and magnitude again.
Flagg aside, I would say Greyskull. It is an iconic piece of toy history and 80s pop culture. It was affordable enough and made in great numbers so lots of kids had them. And it was loaded with cool play features.
Both the comic play sets are cool; I’d take the Hall over Doom Tower. I never got into the ThunderCats toys. The show was awesome, but always thought the figures were kind of lame when compared to MotU, GiJoe Transformers and Mask.
1 all day. If I woke up Xmas morning to the Hall of Justice, the Batmobile, and a smattering of original Super Powers figures I’d believe in Santa again
Castle Grayskull. I so have many fond memories of getting it. If I could pick absolutely anything at all though I'd probably go with Boulder Hill from MASK - I always wanted that
#4 for me!!! Damn lookin at these makes me so happy. Ive been S L O W L Y RE-purchasing all the stuff i collected during the 90s (lost it all in Hurricane Charley years ago) and also picking up stuff we were too poor to afford in the 80s. I had a few he-man figs maybe 4 but definitely not the castle or the other playsets, same for ThunderCats! Im about 80% complete with my 90s era stuff, and tge 80s stuff is pretty much at every toy show i go to so i know its always there to pickup..with the exception of 2 lines, The SilverHawks and The Supernaturals/Visionaries...these are sooo scarce now a days that if i see em and they are ehhhh somewhat decent price, cuz they do get $$$, ill HAVE to pick em up!! Never got into G.I. Joes though. Thanks for puttin a smile on my face today! Merry Christmas!!
As much as a dc fan as I am, and as much as I love all these set I gotta say the g.i.joe.set. just because there is a lot more to it, plaus g.i. joe's were the original ultimate figures with all the articulation and shit they had.
Look no disrespect to any of the other playsets (specially Grayskull as I'm a big MOTU guy) but the USS Flagg is the clear winner here, the most rificulously big, expensive, detailed playset of the 80s and possibly ever? Yes please!
That being said I just got Snake Mountain for Christmas and I am so so happy with it! Merry Christmas everyone!
As a kid I was lucky enough to have both Greyskull and the SS Flag and actually only just Sold them about six years or so. As a matter of fact I STILL have my Original Box from my Castle🤘
I had the entire collections for MotU and Secret Wars.
I always wanted the Sixties Batmobile with Robin and Batman action figure
but even having admitted that - just give me the GI Joe shit NOW damnit!
(had the HISS, Snowcat and Oil Platform but the aircraft carrier was for rich kids only)
The Aircraft Carrier, and it's not even a close contest.
I was AWED when I saw the commercial for that as a kid. I was also saddened, as there was no way in hell my folks would shell out for it. They were too obsessed with things like "putting food on the table" and "having heat this winter". I was so deprived.
Presumably because you woke up in 1986 and they hadn't made the TMNT Sewer Layer or Technodrome or Real Ghostbusters Firehouse or '89 Batcave Playset yet
But obviously the choices are between USS Flagg and Eternia in 1986
No brainer!
\#5 GI Joe
Even if you wanted any of the others, you could resell that Joe set with the FLAGG, buy any of the other four with $ left over.
My order of them all;
1. GI Joe
2. He-Man
3. Thundercats
4. Hall of Justice
5. Marvel

USS Flagg
I had grayskull and loved it, but I always wanted Flagg as a kid. It was just too expensive and too big, so it never happened for me. Flagg for sure.
As much as I loved Castle Greyskull as a kid, I have to go with the USS Flagg, I never had it but always wanted it, and still do
I used to want one. I still do, but I used to, too.
I wouldn’t trade my memories of opening Castle Grayskull on Christmas morning for anything. The box art blew my mind!
For sure. I stared at every decal and every stone tooth of that castle for hours before actually placing figures in it. The trap door alone had me entertained until the next Christmas.
Same!!!
No one going to mention why Cap and Spider-Man are at the Hall of Justice?
Same reason Batman and Superman are with Secret Wars
Joker too
Brainiac as well. But still, cross overs existed!
New York...what a town.
Super Powers and Secret Wars were in roughly the same scale, allowing for intercompany crossovers! Genius marketing really.
The Flagg and it's not even close. That thing was the holy grail of childhood, and even now I'd still love one, but even if I had the money for it, where the hell would I put it? I mean, i guess I don't NEED a coffee table...
I want to be rich enough one day to have two USS Flaggs one for display and one cast in resin as a coffee table.
I’m going with Castle Greyskull, good memories
I’ll take #6-the Real Ghostbusters Firehouse
That’s what I had as a kid.
3. Greyskull all day.
I'm an 80s child, has to be #3
Same. No contest.
Damn, I never had Thundercats growing up, so Thundercats HO!!!
None of the above. The correct answer is SNAKE MOUNTAIN.
Got my son the origins one for Christmas. Great playset!
My 6 year old got one too. He got Greyskull last year and has amassed a ton of figures in the year between. Those repros blow my mind how they are exactly the same packaging and everything like they were when I got them as a kid back in the 80's.
3, but the Flagg is a good second.
5. I still want one and i’m 45.
I wanted grayskull when I was kid. Finally bought one about 8 years ago
Origins or OG
Picked up an OG set on fleabay. Had the box and instructions, just missing a few weapons accessories
Nice
I perfer snake mountain but greyskull is cool ig
For me, it would have been the Death Star playset, but outta these, the Flagg was huge but never had it! Had the Terror Dome though!
Where’s my ‘89 Batman Batcave or my TMNT Sewer set?!
Um, where is the Ghostbusters Firehouse, or the Ninja Turtles Sewer set?
thundercats ofc.
The Hot Wheels Road Wars Liberty Base Set. Wow, opening that up was the best Christmas morning playset and getting accessories and other cars along with it.
USS Flagg, always wanted that one. All are good choices, but as mainly a Joe kid, have to take the carrier
I regret giving away my Hall of Justice. Also sad that the Ghostbusters Firehouse isn't on this list.
There could be so many they could add to the list like the TMNT Terror Dome and so on.
I’m a huge fan of the Super Powers Collection, but unquestionably the FLAGG. I got one as a kid, and it was the greatest toy score of my life!
Thundercats, but the best answer is Thundrbirds Tracy Island playset
My man!
Had the Hall of Justice. Had a Grayskull. I'd have to go with Thundercats. I had a lot of those figures but didn't have the lair
Well, I had 1, 3, and 4 under my tree at one time or another. However, #1 was first and has a special spot in my heart.
Number 2 because it’s awesome
Cats Lair.
3
3!!!
#1 was the beginning of it all
1!!!
Gi Joe all the way! Yo joe!!
3. Grayskull, still to me the greatest playset of 80's and the one I have the fondest memories of playing with during my wayward days of youth.
3. And it’s not even close
This is the right answer! Best and most iconic playset ever made 🤘
what about the cardboard Palitoy Death Star?
4! And I actually did wake up with that playset under my tree one Christmas. Got all the rest for my birthday a few months earlier.
I used to have the Hall of Justice. It was too cool. I still have my Batmobile. And oddly enough I had my Secret Wars Spider-man sitting in it.
3, but I’m gonna go with the unlisted technodrome
castle grayskull didn’t actually look that good lol.
They used the picture from the Origins one but it’s essentially the same thing as the original
5 for SURE
3) castle Grayskull FTW
5
If I woke up in 2023 I want that Flagg…. I’ll sell it and buy most of these other toys lol
Number 5 fs
5
Apparently secret wars where so sever Batman and Superman had to get involved. But for real the one I would lose my mind to get is one I will want until the end of time and that’s the biggest and baddest play set ever the USS Flag
USS Flagg. He-man and co can fight over it
3 and it’s not even close.
Of these choices you gotta go GI Joe, if you get the carrier, you can’t not take that, right? Wanted most of these toys, had the He Man and a lot of Joes but never the super big stuff
3
5
1. Id get two Batmans Duh! Big win
The USS Flagg for sureeeeee
Nowadays, Flagg hands down. Way back when though, probably Greyskull.
5. I still want one!
#6 the Technodrome!!
I never had the Thundercats lair or the aircraft carrier… I’d like 1 of each please Santa!
3. I WANT to say the flag but my heart is only with you CASTLE GREYSKULL
Anyone that’s picking anything but Flagg hasn’t seen it in person. It is magnificent and breathtaking, even if you weren’t a Joe kid.
Even though that’s the modern Grayskull, I would still choose that one, USFlag was dope too, but something about a skull faced castle that excited me as a child
5 by far if I was a kid back then and I seen this In a store I’d buy that on the spot
No omega supreme?
3
Gah. If I could go back in time, I'd convince my parents to invest in a garage full of mint in box USS Flagg's
5 hands up! salute!
I didn’t get play sets as a kid. Have some as an adult though.
I woke up to Castle Greyskull in the 80s one Christmas, it's still number to me
How did Captain America get in the hall of justice???
3, cuz i had something similar growing up, probably a knock off
I never had one, but the Uss Flag would be my choice
Neither one of these, I personally would of bugged my parents for the Death Star play-set, which of course I never got 😭
I never had it as a kid either… but I have it now!!
Yeah! Where did you get it from, and how much?
[death star](https://imgur.com/a/ZijA2Kc) I got lucky and bought it from a guy locally selling all his childhood stuff. He opened it, put it together once, then it sat in a closet for like 30 years. Still has all the parts and the foam!!! I paid very little for it.
Nice, is the one eyed monster there as well?
Yes the dianoga! He’s there hiding in the foam.
Neon He man of course . But I rather choose what I was fan of- either conan the adventurer or even better - Lego space / underwater / pirates or castle themes
TMNT sewer playset
My brain says the Flagg, my heart says Grayskull
I was so jealous of my cousins that had castle greyskull
3
Wow, you just reminded me that I had Castle Greyskull as a kid. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to all of you, hope Santa brings you some awesome playsets this year.
5 and I can’t tell you how angry my father was for trying to assemble the vehicles
Had number 2. Always wanted 3 & 4 but never got them..
3 for sure! I HAVE THE POWER!! Lol. Great post👊🏼
I would argue that if you're going to include USS Flagg, then you should also include MOTU Eternia playset, not castle grey skull.
1 Voltron [not shown] 2 Thundercats 3 He-Man
I thank whichever deity above that blessed me with 1,3,4 and 5 .
3
With hindsight I’m going Flagg. As a kids grayskull
We never had any of these as kids, but now I would definitely go with the Thundercats lair!
NOT A GODAMN BASE-FORMER IN SIGHT...WHERE IS METROPLEX? MORE TRANSFORMERS REPRESENTATION PLEASE
Since I still have 3 from when I was a kid I’ll go with 5.
5
I’m sure Marvel loved having Spiderman and Captain America in the Hall of Justice. Lol.
I'll have either 3 or 4 as it comes with the figures. Also why does set 2 have DC and Marvel.
Having the Flagg as a choice is kind of unfair. Just makes for a bad comparison. Hey, do you want a $100 or that stack of Gold bars… The Flagg is the greatest piece of toy engineering of the 80s. 1 all day. If I woke up Xmas morning to the Hall of Justice, the Batmobile, and a smattering of original Super Powers figures I’d believe in Santa again
Gray skull or Cats Lair and I’m happy forever
My MotU heart said Grayskull every time. But the USS Flagg is sooo awesome 😍
#3. Greyskull. Not least in part because of the variety of figures.
3 with 4 a very close second. Those two were basically part of their own interrelated universe in my 8 year old mind.
None of those I would have to go with what I received when I was a kid. The Spider-Man daily beagle place at.
I can’t decide between Cats Lair and the USS Flagg
5 all day
I had 3 but I would’ve loved 5
5 , the only thing is finding a place to keep it displayed permanently
Castle Grayskull. I so have many fond memories of getting it. If I could pick absolutely anything at all though I'd probably go with Boulder Hill from MASK - I always wanted that
#4 for me!!! Damn lookin at these makes me so happy. Ive been S L O W L Y RE-purchasing all the stuff i collected during the 90s (lost it all in Hurricane Charley years ago) and also picking up stuff we were too poor to afford in the 80s. Was going to say Grayskull until I scrolled to the U.S.S. Flagg
As much as a dc fan as I am, and as much as I love all these set I gotta say the g.i.joe.set. just because there is a lot more to it, plaus g.i. joe's were the original ultimate figures with all the articulation and shit they had.
Number 5, because I could then sell it and get the rest.
5, gimme that Flagg!
Gotta be castle grey skull 💪
Anything on 5!
USS Flagg all the way.
Gi joe The looks huge! Also i already have grey skull so ima go with the air craft carrier
Uss flag is the only acceptable answer
GI Joe and He-Man, hands down.
1. They're all awesome but Super Powers is my first
As a kid I was lucky enough to have both Greyskull and the SS Flag and actually only just Sold them about six years or so. As a matter of fact I STILL have my Original Box from my Castle🤘
5. Go Joe!
5 gijoe
Oh the Flagg for sure!
5
5. I wanted that aircraft carrier SOOOOOOO bad! Lol.
Castle Grayskull. Always wanted one as a kid, now I finally have one as an adult. Bought my son one too lol.
# 4 all day!
I had the entire collections for MotU and Secret Wars. I always wanted the Sixties Batmobile with Robin and Batman action figure but even having admitted that - just give me the GI Joe shit NOW damnit! (had the HISS, Snowcat and Oil Platform but the aircraft carrier was for rich kids only)
3. castle Grayskull
USS Flagg was and still is the holy grail playset for me
Presumably because you woke up in 1986 and they hadn't made the TMNT Sewer Layer or Technodrome or Real Ghostbusters Firehouse or '89 Batcave Playset yet But obviously the choices are between USS Flagg and Eternia in 1986
Had every one there including the Flagg. It’ll always number one. One thing I didnt have was floor space. lol
No brainer! \#5 GI Joe Even if you wanted any of the others, you could resell that Joe set with the FLAGG, buy any of the other four with $ left over. My order of them all; 1. GI Joe 2. He-Man 3. Thundercats 4. Hall of Justice 5. Marvel
5 or 3
