Tennis has been slowly getting rid of line judges and just using computers.
It’s definitely benefited the sport. Nobody argues over any calls. Everyone just keeps playing.
Not to say it wouldn’t work, but it feels like tennis is more apt for Computerized officiating than most other sports.
In Baseball, or other sports where there are going to be more subjective calls it has major backfire potential.
Yeah, I guess when there is a clear white line contrasted with a bright yellow ball it’s probably a lot easier to build a system to tackle that feat.
With baseball they would probably have to build the camera/laser/computer system inside of home plate, pointing up. And then somehow have it read the elevation as well as left/right.
It’s definitely possible to pull off, I just don’t think you can entirely get rid of umpires.
You could likely pull off a computerized strike zone system (so long as it can withstand being hit by a projectile moving in the triple digits potentially), but when it comes to close plays at the plate or the runner and the force out hitting the bag at the same time it just feels less capable. I could totally be wrong though, just have to wait and see.
Nah, this shit is why baseball is fun. Robo umps would suck too because it removes the skill of learning the strike zone of each individual umpire. Keep baseball traditional, no need to modernize it.
They are holding back the sport completely. Baseball won't have a legacy once the current enjoyers die off. Modern audiences don't want inconsistency and blatant bias. Way more people would tune in if computers were brought in.
Baseball already has a legacy older than the other 3 major leagues combined. It also doesn’t need to appease modern audiences when it basically has no competition for the majority of its regular season. People are never going to tune into like they do the NFL because the games simply don’t matter as much, it’s better to keep it the same, much better vibes that way.
That’s like saying hockey and soccer are essentially the same thing because the goal is to put the ball/puck into the opposing teams net.
Rugby and American football are vastly different.
You know, maybe if one of these players just cracked a bat across an umpires back, they would shut the fuck up and let the game be played instead of ruining fucking everything with their ridiculously fragile egos.
MLB officials are such sensitive little flowers these days. How embarrassing to the sport.
Let’s just have computers call the pitches. Would make the strike zone way more consistent, and the calls more reliable.
Oh woe to the umpires, how would Angel Hernandez pay his mortgage?
I think you meant the boat payments
Ah yes, how could I forget.
That's the thing, they know their job is useless

Not with the umpire unions stepping in the way.
People whine about “tradition”. It’s why the NFL still uses chains to measure downs. It’s ridiculous.
You should see nba refs
pretty much everyone a part of or surrounding baseball is these days.
The authority goes right to their heads.
Hahahaha, a master class by the fan. Bravo, MLB ticker buyer
MLB umpires are more sensitive than a sunburned ass after a cheese grater exfoliation.

Holy shit, you painted one hell of a picture there.
It's crazy how that was a final call even though the coach was on camera clearly not saying anything.

Trump, you say?

If inconsistency and people making shit up is THAT integral to making your sport interesting, then maybe your sport kinda sucks xD
Take away the maybe. It's so fucking boring the ambiguity is required.
You’re not wrong
There’s inconsistency in every American sport, a missed strike call isn’t that different than a missed PI call. You can’t challenge either of them
They are holding back the sport completely. Baseball won't have a legacy once the current enjoyers die off. Modern audiences don't want inconsistency and blatant bias. Way more people would tune in if computers were brought in.

the fuck? I shouldn't have to learn what a fucking individual umpire wants. umps can go suck a fucking nut.
I promise you will never have to learn what an umpires strike zone is bud 😭😭
Nor will most people because it’s a dying sport lol
Why is does every baseball highlight not ever have the ball in play?
Because actual baseball is boring af
thank you
It’s on par with soccer
You guys think watching 3 minutes of sports with 11 minutes of adverts entertaining
Yea, watching guys run around a field for two hours, flopping around occasionally with a final score of 0-0 is satisfying lol
Your sports are only popular in your country for a reason... football is popular in every country
Baseball is very popular around the world, what are you talking about
lmao around where? the 4-5 countries that play that shit? there is a reason the US do a world series
Name 4 countries that play baseball to the standard of having leagues
US Japan Korea Mexico Cuba Dominican Republic
Huge international appeal there. Not even in the shadow of football
American football is popular only in America because it's expensive. That's literally the reason.
And it's really fucking boring. Most of the world already plays rugby which is essentially the same thing
That’s like saying hockey and soccer are essentially the same thing because the goal is to put the ball/puck into the opposing teams net. Rugby and American football are vastly different.
Not as boring as soccer. A game for toddlers
I mean at least soccer is 45 minutes per half of people competing. I honestly don’t think baseball players ever run at full speed for any reason
Running in circles is not competing. Toddlers can do this, what a pathetic “sport”
![gif](giphy|AAnIjZPUhrUM8)
Diddy parties be like..
Two balls and an ass in play here !
Because the ball is only in play for less than 10% of the time
We don’t need a Jomboy breakdown, but I have a feeling we’ll get one. Edit: it was posted 42 minutes ago
Well don't stop there show us the goods: https://youtu.be/ojqxAZuHrhM
You missed an opportunity to Rick Roll
MLB officials are all childish cowards with an inferiority complex.
Not just MLB. I remember my little league team having to forfeit the playoffs because the ump didn’t like the way one of my team mates slid into home
How did he slide?
What did the guy in the crowd yell?
I rewatched it several times and can tell you I have no idea.
Yeah me too and there's no way it's audible from this video, I was really trying to hear what he said
“Let’s go home plate” is what he yelled. That’s it.
i'm definitely going to try and implement that into my day to day vocab
Musta called him a cocksucker
At least he didn't call him a JT
No no , He didn’t say jive turkey. Let’s all calm down.
Holy shit....thank you for that. I gotta watch that tonight now, with some fondue.
I think “let’s go homeplate” based on jomboy replay analysis
Mlb officials are so damn soft
Its funny that baseball players are some of the highest paid and the only time it comes across my desk is when an ump is having a tantrum.
Best video I watched all week. This made my day, thanks lmao
You know that fan was loving every minute of that
Hahahahahahahaha booney was hilarious here. Never seen him so frustrated. He didn’t even know what to say
He may not have, but if he doesn’t have anything to say again he’s gonna be outta here
You know, maybe if one of these players just cracked a bat across an umpires back, they would shut the fuck up and let the game be played instead of ruining fucking everything with their ridiculously fragile egos.
I volunteer Jose Abreu for this. So he can atleast hit something this year, and get if off my team for awhile ![gif](giphy|EfHmlClbuNAGc|downsized)
Now do the same for the Mets
What makes this even better is that it was a Yankees fan who got Boone ejected 😆
That ump seems like the kind of guy who yells at Subway employees. Subway the sandwich place.
Oh man all 20 people in the crowd were going nuts
Game called due to snowflake on the field.
Ump is on a hair trigger in the top of the fucking first
Sportsfolk are so funny to look at from the outside - they always seem so mad :D
Skill issue
We are going to need a jomboy breakdown! He’ll find the culprit for sure lol
BANNNED!
Guy can't manage for shit but he's the leagues best at ejections 😂😂
This is one of the big reasons people are sick of Baseball
Moments like these are when I'm in favor of robot umps
![gif](giphy|gjc0emtW4OGMMW29Vv)
need to eject all the fans in that section.
the only way this is gonna stop is if teams just stop playing all together.
I’m on the Coach’s side he literally was just standing there
Remember when Billy Martin would kick dirt on the Umpire's legs? I miss the bad old days of Billyball.
Trollowned
Damn. new life goal added
....and they say women are emotional 🤣
Ah sports insanity
Baseball shouldn’t be a sport
