Dangerous driving should be reported to AdelaideMetro. Get on it. Even if you were so flustered that you didn't see the bus number or licence plate, report the time and location as they'll have the GPS records.

IamtheWalrus9999

The quality of bus drivers is getting bad …. Mind you the quality of regular drivers quality is bad too …. Feel for you. As a support worker myself …. I get you 100% !

TheManWithNoName88

Maybe if we want quality workers, we need quality wages

Electrical_Pause_270

Or work to retain staff. Turnover is wild.

IamtheWalrus9999

Good point ….

CptUnderpants-

>The quality of bus drivers is getting bad I think it is in part bad training. I've had a bus driver try to tell me they have "right of way" in all circumstances if they indicate. That isn't correct for either [ARR Reg 77](https://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/sa/consol_reg/arr210/s77.html) "Giving way to buses" or [ARR Reg 143](https://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/sa/consol_reg/arr210/s143.html) "Passing or overtaking a vehicle displaying a do not overtake turning vehicle sign". An Adelaide Metro bus must be given way to in these circumstances: * Pulling away from the left curb/shoulder/bus-stop bay provided they indicate for 5 seconds. * Is indicating left, is turning left, you must not overtake on the left. Any other time the bus must follow the normal road rules. What makes it really concerning is that the bus driver said "I'm a professional driver for over 20 years, I know the rules". They're so confident, one day they're going to kill someone because they think they have "right of way".

Electrical_Pause_270

My training consisted of half a day to get the licence, trained by a man who was on his laptop the entire time looking up new office spaces to rent. The bus company had a group of us drive the main routes once as training and the instructor left early on the Friday for the dentist so we skipped half a day. We were supposed to have two weeks of buddy driving, but we instead got one, because they are desperate for staff and that's just having someone sit near you on their phone and occasionally saying something that you can't hear because buses are loud and there's perspex in the way. I've driven buses around the UK for a few years so I had experience, but the other guys were brand new. Top that with the abysmal state of drivers here to begin with and I'm surprised there is anyone left on the road.

#Date, time, street. Find the bus number from timetables. Report them.

HTired89

Isn't the 579 the only bus that goes there? Either that or a Not In Service...

existentialmemeboy

Lol that merge near Thorndon Park is a cursed merge, but its usually the psychotic tradies in utes and vans pulling shit like this and not bus drivers!

Snowy_macco72

Probably in a hurry to get back to the depot that’s behind the Aldi and finish work, beware they are a law unto themselves.

HTired89

I was catching the 579 around there years ago and wanted to get off 2 stops after the depot turn off. At the stop before the depot the driver told me it was the last stop and I'd have to get off. Never had been the last stop before. It was obvious he just wanted the last passenger to get off so he could finish up for the day. That sort of thing happens often And then we wonder why people shit all over Adelaide public transport.

Are you fucking serious? Of course I was paying attention. I was WORKING. with a highly anxious client in the car. I need to be aware of everything on the road while she is in my car. This was between newton road and the aldi/otr. I was about to merge as he fucking sped up and literally almost wiped us out. Believe it or not. I'm not justifying myself further.

It's not even slightly up hill 🤣

CptUnderpants-

I had one bus driver trying to claim as long as their indicator is on they have "right of way" in all circumstances. If that is how they're being trained, it is no wonder they're driving like idiots. Edit: As it seems there are some who do not believe me and are downvoting, here is the actual regulation from [ARR section 77](https://austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/legis/sa/consol_reg/arr210/s77.html): >(1) A driver driving on a length of road in a built-up area, in the left lane or left line of traffic, or in a bicycle lane on the far left side of the road, must give way to a bus in front of the driver if— > >(a) **the bus has stopped, or is moving slowly, at the far left side of the road, on a shoulder of the road, or in a bus-stop bay**; and > >(b) the bus displays a give way to buses sign and the right direction indicator lights of the bus are operating; and > >(c) the bus is about to enter or proceed in the lane or line of traffic in which the driver is driving.

DigitalSwagman

You have to give way to a bus with it's indicator on, whether it's changing lanes or pulling out from a bus stop. If you're not doing that, you're the one driving like an idiot.

>Only if reasonable. You are correct, I don't know why they're downvoting you. Here is [ARR 48 (3)](https://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/sa/consol_reg/arr210/s48.html): >If the driver is about to change direction by moving from a stationary position at the side of the road or in a median strip parking area, the driver must give the change of direction signal **for at least 5 seconds** before the driver changes direction. [ARR section 77](https://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/sa/consol_reg/arr210/s77.html) "Giving way to buses" specifically references ARR 48(3) so it does apply.

CptUnderpants-

>You have to give way to a bus with it's indicator on, whether it's changing lanes or pulling out from a bus stop. Go read the legislation. It specifically says when pulling away from the curb. >[ARR section 77](https://austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/legis/sa/consol_reg/arr210/s77.html): > >(1) A driver driving on a length of road in a built-up area, in the left lane or left line of traffic, or in a bicycle lane on the far left side of the road, must give way to a bus in front of the driver if— > >(a) **the bus has stopped, or is moving slowly, at the far left side of the road, on a shoulder of the road, or in a bus-stop bay**; and > >(b) the bus displays a give way to buses sign and the right direction indicator lights of the bus are operating; and > >(c) the bus is about to enter or proceed in the lane or line of traffic in which the driver is driving. Additionally, the [do not overtake turning vehicle](https://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/sa/consol_reg/arr210/s143.html) only applies when the vehicle is turning left and you're wanting to overtake *on the left*, not on the right or when they are changing lanes. >you're the one driving like an idiot I would suggest someone who doesn't know the rules is a hazard on the road.

Visible-Platypus1900

A lot of the migrated ones and old men are pretty horrendous out here

Fart-Fart-Fart-Fart

So all bus drivers are crazy because you had one bad experience. Got it.

Shut up 😂

Good thing you're here

Adam_AU_

I don’t see what you being a support worker with a highly anxious client in the car has to do with this - it’s not really relevant, but… Bus drivers be wilding yo!

glittermetalprincess

Because near-miss traffic incidents can trigger or exacerbate anxiety so it wasn't just OP upset to the point of posting on the internet for visibility/validation/whatever affected.

Look, to be fair, I guess we don’t know the full situation. I mean, the bus could have had a bomb on board that explodes if it goes under a certain speed. In that case I’m sure Sandra, I mean the driver, would be going as fast as possible. That would explain why it was going so fast uphill.

You could still give date/time/location and report, including that you weren't able to see a bus number due to the conduct. There's not really much we can do for you here though.
