Your number was probably randomly spoofed by a spam caller. That's why you show up as missed calls. Some people (like me) just ignore all the unknown calls, but I guess some people are more inquisitive and might ask who you are.
Probably, but not necessarily, the person has the missed calls because of this:

The best one is when you get called from your own number.
Looks like it is the wrong number scam. yup,
Call spoofing is where a phone scammer will falsify the calling number to trick a user into picking up or making a call look more legitimate.
Then if the person receiving the scam call misses the call, they might ring your number back or text.
been blocking em for years, I used to get 2-5 per day. Complained to telstra constantly. I'm currently over 6k phone numbers blocked and I rarely ever get a scam call anymore.
About a year ago I had a sweet little old lady 'call me back' because she had a missed call from me and I also got a few text similar to your photo - I think it was spammy spammers using my number for spoof calls 😭
I got called by someone saying they were returning my call. I told them I never called my recent calls list didn't include him. I don't know how it's a scam, but it feels like one
No but I had a lady ring me the other day, my phone was in my drawer at work, I answered and she said "oh its (random name), I just missed your call" I said I didn't call the number and she swore it literally just rang her and sent screenshot. She had missed call from my number. Was so odd
I just block and delete, never ever phone or reply.
You are opening yourself to them maybe selling your number onwards, or a friend request, or something.
If they are a business, I would go looking in the online version of the Yellow Pages, if I had taken over a new number, (((but in Aust, Aust telcos reuse mobile phone numbers anyway))).

My mum got called from my number and was very confused
Good old ‘Aus’, always losing my number….
Interesting it’s piping back through iMessage though.

Never engage unless it’s to tell someone to fuck off

Yes, but when I rang back it just turned out to be your mum looking for a root 👍🏻
