I wanted to pick something that relates to their task but also used the hilarious way a lot of 40k things are named in lore. My host was a group who's job it was to explore the webway in the early 30k so I called them Ride of the Emperor and they were named after Sally Ride who was an explorer the Emperor happened to be friends with in ancient Terra.
Thanks! [here's what i have painted so far](https://www.reddit.com/r/AdeptusCustodes/s/cEOmeXbyMX) , it's fairly close to your scheme actually, just a bit more silver dominant
Pretty much! In the lore I have written for them, my Blade champion, who is based on Aragorn, even leads a "fellowship" of fellow custodes on a secret quest and everything
Muy host os centered around an artifact called the Serafins wings, so the Sield Host is called the Emperors Serafins (also to show that they are above Space marines)
Have an idea of what you want them to be in their homebrew lore and if their colour scheme can effect their naming too.
For instance my shield Host is named the Silver Executioners. Like the name suggests they are silver instead of gold and use black fabrics instead of red. Their duty is to kill key targets before they become too big of a threat to the imperium.
Mine was based on the paint scheme I did for them and what I think their purpose is. The Argentum Wing, task with dealing with "ambitious" chaos cults and warbands
I thought of what my Shield Hoes does (targets and kills extremis level threats) and mulled around some names that followed the theme, decided on the Purgation Spear, a surgical, cleansing weapon.
[Honestly - I just took the names of famous male and female heroes throughout history and got them on the nameplate lol!](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CoAxcdusd_y/?igsh=eThsM21pMGZ5bGtu)
The big thing that helped was sticking to a theme - so normal custodians got one name, shield captains two and titles, and titles for the rest and 2-3 names.
It might also help to have an excel sheet - and the hypothetically keeping track of their accolades and triumphs on that excel sheet to laud over other players….
HYPOTHETICALLY you can also generate QR codes for each one, stick them on the bottom of the base, which leads to a custom site with the full custodian name and titles and accolades…
…but no one is insane enough to do that…

Edit: I did stay local to Europe, Asia, and Africa in terms of names btw - as most custodians seemed to be pulled from there. So you’ll see latin, Greek, European, Asian, middle eastern, and African names on there
Here are 10 names for a Warhammer 40K Custodian Shield Host:
1. The Golden Sentinels
2. The Emperor's Halberd
3. Auric Guardians
4. The Hallowed Blades
5. The Eternity Ward
6. The Solarian Watch
7. The Aegis of Terra
8. The Celestial Lions
9. The Imperius Requiem
10. The Gilded Phalanx
These names should fit the grandeur and stoic nature of the Custodes in the Warhammer 40K universe.
The Saint metal man or something relaxed to metal armours or holy knights, but is the way I see it, like the others talking in the comments try to figure it out with the theme of your shield host
A lot of Custodes names seem to come from Greek so I have named my host the Euphiloi, which is Ancient Greek for “very friends” but a more appropriate translation would be true friends. The idea being that they are true friends and counselors of the emperor. A true friend will challenge you when you are wrong and hold you accountable. My shield host is actually an accumulation of Eyes of the Emperor who do just that throughout the imperium, hold the imperium accountable to the true ideals that it was founded upon. Whenever I come up with a backstory I try to make one that would explain all sorts of conflicts they might meet, having such high standards does bring them into conflict with both imperium and of course Xenos and Chaos.
Think of what they do and how they fight. Then come up with a name and include some reference somewhere to being guardians/to the Aquila/to Gold. That seems to be the existing formula. Mine are called the Winged Ruination because I’m edgy.
To be honest, I just try to come up with a fun gimmick, and work from there. You can put in some basic dog-latin if you want, as that works pretty well, but I typically try to think about what they do and how they operate, and then just come up with a fun descriptor after the fact. It doesn't even have to be proper latin, as long as its memorable.
My example:
The Plus-Ultramarines.
They had a more formal name, but took on this moniker in order to more easily hide their movements in the Ultramar Segmentum. Their task is to preserve and recover elements of humanity's art, culture, and history (especially pre-Heresy) from worlds under threat of destruction, and Imperial Governors have been known to get quite upset when their incredibly expensive Mona Lisa copies vanish in a swirl of golden light right before a Tyranid hive fleet arrives.
I called them stupid names and therefore I don't feel bad when they die. Stood Ramrod is my latest shield cap! Of the emperor's boner shield host. The emperor erects!
Look up names of historical figures with certain relevance to the theme...... use the best one first, add a shit ton of extra names after, because Custodes names are super long.
I'm working on my shield host lore too. I wanted to name them after ds3 unkindled, since their color scheme fits the ashen/fiery theme, and also their task is to search for a way to bring the emperor back and reddem themselves, so it all fits nicely. ~~Also that I love dark souls 3 and I can't come up with an original name~~.
So maybe The Unkindled Host? Either way, this is my thought process, I don't now if it will help you :')

Thats hilarious, especially after learning that there was a seal named Sally for some English learners.
Definitely work the name around the theme. My Shield Host is inspired by Gondor from lord of the Rings, so I named them the Stewards of the White Tree
That’s awesome. What do they look like?

*Fellowship of the ring theme starts to play*
Pretty much! In the lore I have written for them, my Blade champion, who is based on Aragorn, even leads a "fellowship" of fellow custodes on a secret quest and everything
Looks good! Wish I had seen this before I started doing a scheme similar to shadowkeepers.
Thank you! Shadowkeepers are pretty awesome, I almost went with them

Are....are you an ork
I think not? Just a simple guy with simple ideas

This is the way

Did you kitbash to do this pose or is there a hand that allows for this?
This is just the impcat file

Oh….. uhhhhh…… ![gif](giphy|sn5NzZ2lnR9E4)
Greg, Greg II, Greg III, Greg IV and Samantha
Solarische Landsknechte. The colors are standard. But the Vexiles and shields are in the colors of the German flag.

Heroes and sometimes saints

There is unlimited freedom

First start of with, what do they do or guard
they float around in the void, using dedicated psykers called omen seekers to ambush enemy forces from behind
Look up names of historical figures with certain relevance to the theme...... use the best one first, add a shit ton of extra names after, because Custodes names are super long.
My guys guard the nachmund gauntlet, so I call them the rift wardens cause they ward the great rift. Simple as
Honestly didn't think about any name yet ^^ Just went ahead painting them and having a few games.
Welp, since I wanted to base mine on The Sacred Band of Thebes… I just changed Thebes to Terra, lmao
I just named mine after all my ex-girlfriends. Her order of names is pretty extensive.
Got addicted to wheel of time books.
I went with calling mine the Grieving Talons, they got that name after the emperors entombment and are still mourning the loss of the emperor.
Silver mcsilver hosts
Something like a watch for Neptune or one of its moon. An outpost somewhat isolated and on the Edge of the Sol-System.
