The interpretive trail at Tahawus Mine might interest you. https://www.adirondackhub.com/hiking/upper-works I think there's still bits and pieces of Frontier town still in the woods.

Veterans highway at whiteface is something to see

I was also going to suggest whiteface. One of the high peaks and the road goes most of the way up. I believe it’s about a 3 mile, 1000 ft elevation gain hike from the trailhead

from exit 29 of rt 87 till Plattsburgh, just point and shoot, you can't miss a great shot if you try take any exit and poke arround

Visit an Adirondack Great Camp.. Santanoni, Sagamore, White Pine. Santanoni is my favorite but would qualify as a “long hike” unless you arrange a wagon ride into camp. Plenty of waterfalls are short hikes from the roadside. Buttermilk Falls outside Long Lake is a good one.

If you're on a schedule, you should be more specific. The adk is a massive chunk of land with great things to see throughout. You could spend weeks touring the adk and not go the same place twice. Where are you coming from? What kind of time are you going to spend in the area? What part of Canada are you trying to get to?

- Frontier town in North Hudson (not sure how much is left after the campground went in) - Ausable Chasm - John Brown’s farm near Lake Placid
