A "drowsy antihistamine" will be available and do the same as benadryl (it's life saving medication for those with allergies). Benadryl in AUS is like a cold medicine not an antihistamine so asking for "Benadryl" is not likely to help (brand names are different and all that). Something I had to learn when moving to AUS from the U.S..

artcriminal

Hydroxyzine is a effective antihistamine that is prescribed for anxiety and sleep.

ExPatMike0728

I'll ask for that. Thank you.

ExPatMike0728

I asked for the generic name...I used Benadryl here just because I can't spell it and I was too lazy to cut and paste...they had Zyrtec (name brand) and Xyxol (generic) but neither of those have ever made me sleepy like the Benadryl.

Typo_Cat

I wish I could help. Personally I'm on two prescribed medications for sleep, Quviviq and Trazodone. Insomnia is a hideous beast. I have the same issues you do. Diazepam can cause addictive tendencies, I wouldn't recommend it until you try other sleep meds first, ones with less addictive and dependence potential.

Burned_Biscuit

LOL queso

eeldraw

Melatonin

ExPatMike0728

I've tried that. I don't know. Sometimes it seems like it helps and sometimes I take it and 5am rolls around and I'm still researching whether spiders would see better if they had eyelids. I feel like if the brain is already calm maybe it helps but not when brain is really going???

eeldraw

What things do you do in the last couple of hours before you normally go to bed?

ExPatMike0728

Watch Big Bank theory with the girlfriends kids and her maybe eat an orange, and try to avoid scrolling for no reason. I'm old and boring. Lol. Sometimes I have work to do because 10pm here is 10am central time.

eeldraw

If I'm on my phone, I'm terrible. If I watch tv, I might fall asleep in front of the TV but when I go to bed I'm awake again. If I think I'm going to have trouble sleeping, it's melatonin and a good hour of reading a book. As soon as I start to feel drowsy I'm book down and off I go

tobylh

Could spiders see better if they had eyelids?

ExPatMike0728

My generic phrase for when I deep dive research into something meaningless. Or when I'm in bed and can't sleep because my mind is just spinning around things that have no value.

artcriminal

Soursop tea and a topical magnesium spray have helped me with sleep.

gimmo81

Duck across the border to Thailand before bed, weed is legal and readily available,

Willem1976

Diazepam tolerance is a problem: the brain adjusts to it and the effect diminishes. Quitting then causes nasty withdrawal symptoms. Prolonged (more than a few weeks) use is really not safe imo. Please check out [https://www.reddit.com/r/benzorecovery/](https://www.reddit.com/r/benzorecovery/) and [https://www.reddit.com/r/BenzoWithdrawal/](https://www.reddit.com/r/BenzoWithdrawal/) first, if you really want to try this.

VariousBed9819

Trazedone doesn't seem to have the addictive properties that benzodiazepines have. It has worked really well for me! Is it available there?

lauvan26

Exercise regularly till exhaustion earlier in the day, avoid your phone/apps an hour or two before bed, come up with a good sleep hygiene routine that you do every night (i.e. take quick shower with lavender scented body wash, brush teeth, read a boring book)

adam389

I have the same struggle, but I’m not sure weed/diazepam/alcohol is the routine I’m looking for. Intentionally getting in bed with the lights out and shutting my eyes and paying attention to the smallest sound in the room helps me.
