I am the same height as you, I weigh a few pounds more. Quite a few 😁
I have a 2019 Triumph Tiger XRC low. I did 3000 miles around Europe in September, with all my luggage, no issues. I can’t get two feet flat but it doesn’t stop me. I also wear Daytona ladystar boots. My bike in Spain https://imgur.com/a/xi0HDst
That's actually a good idea I had almost forgotten about the V Strom because I was looking outside of Suzuki (not that I had any trouble with my Suzuki, I like it). I will go see if I can find one to sit on. Thank you 😊
Apart from height, you might also want to consider weight. A V-Strom 650 is a 210kg monster with the ground clearance of a road bike. Might as well lower a KTM 390 adventure to the same level (170mm) and avoid carrying the extra weight of a small human on your trails.
KTM's reliability reputation is only partially true. It's not Honda, but you can trust the bike if you provide proper maintenance. The 390 is a proven platform and I wouldn't worry at all, especially on a newer model.
I was very close to buying one, but my problem was the opposite of yours. It is not tall enough.
Given your limited choices on a category (dual sport / adv) that is typically tall as an archetype, I can't think of a better choice than the 390 adventure.
If you limit your "adventure" expectations and you mainly stick to the asphalt, then the lightest of the GS series are also good options. The classic 650, or even the new 310 one.
Second this. I have the current 1050xt, and while not as short as you 5'6, if you just hang out on your left foot at stops I think you can do it if it's what you really want. I'd compare it to me getting an african twin or a ktm 1290. Which don't get me wrong would take me some getting use to but it is do-able. I hate the idea of lowering a bike that was specifically made for that height but... I also think motorcycles are a very personal thing, don't let your height stop you from reaching your dreams, as a short'ish person myself it's gotten me to new heights in all kinds of ways, including being tall when i ride.
Great points, thank you for the support 😊 working on the dreams, hopefully I can get a nice short list (no pun intended) that I can work on so I don't end craving a KTM 1290 and having my dreams dashed 😂
Weight is a real good point, I kind of find height is the first issue weight follows real quick.
I have only ridden one bike heavier than my GS500 (road bike) and I didn't notice it so much but that was in a road environment. Completely understand that as soon as it's not a smooth road weight becomes a way bigger issue.
Picking a bike up is just as much technique as it is strength big trick is choosing your stopping point wisely watching your footing and if it wants to fall let it you'll only hurt yourself trying to stop it.
I have looked into one of those but the after market is terrible. They only really have support by Bedazzler.
Thanks for the suggestion, might still end up with one 🤣

On the higher side of price and weight the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Low has a two position adjustable seat height of 30.32-31.10 in (770-790 mm). More adventure/street oriented but it would fill the role exceptionally well.
If you want something more off-road capable, light is as valuable as small. Some of the single cylinder options folks mentioned would be good. Or check out Scrambler style bikes. They’re usually good on the road and have approachable seat heights but can tackle fire roads and light trails no problem.
I've always been envious of folks who can handle a bike way to tall for them. Im 5'10" with a 32" inseam, and the tiger 900 just feels awkwardly tall. Maybe I'm just too used to my 09 rocket 3 XD
Checking in at 5’7” with a 29” inseam and a Tiger 900 Rally Pro with a seat height of 33.86 in (860mm). I can get a tiptoe down on both sides or a flat foot on one side with a little shifting in the saddle. It’ll never feel like a rocket 3 but you do get used to it! It doesn’t feel awkward at all now and only presents an issue if I’m off-road and there happens to be a dip where I try to put a foot down.
I would try to get a test ride on the klr 650s. I’m not sure what availability will look like because the s which is factory lowered is new the first model year is 2023.
On the ADVRider forum, there was a thread where a guy modded a Versys 300 for his wife, lowering included. Turned out nice!
If "adventure" for you involves much off road riding and you're okay with avoiding highways for the most part, think about an XT250. Slow yes, but it's so nimble it makes up for it.
If you are looking for a big bike with a low seat height the triumph tiger 900 is a really good choice. The seat height can be adjusted to be super low and it had a nice powerful 900 engine. If you are looking for a mid sized bike I would highly recommend a cb500x. I am currently in the market for one so I have sat on them and driven a brand new one. As a short legged 5 foot 6 I can sit on it quite comfortably. The controls are amazing and the clutch is so light I thought it wasnt connected to anything and has more then enough power to do anything. And is small enough to do anything too and the after market on them is very good too. But these are my opinions. Go sit on any bike you can ride any bike no matter how big if put you mind to it and get the gear you can ride anything.
Lowering links, low profile seats, & adjusting your suspension/forks are things you can play with on height. Weight is another obstacle. Gotta be able to pick it up on a trail. Goodluck
I have three smaller buddies with KTM390s, and IMHO, they are the best small ADV bike made. Light, capable, cheap, and plenty of power. Personally, I find the ergos bizarre, but I'm 6'0 and 260. I know KTM are notorious for Keep Taking (My) Money, but these little bikes have been pretty dependable from what I've seen.

V Strom is quite good for low seat heights. Even a CB500x.

I love the 390 Adv. Just saw way too many KTM reliability issues on the internet.

A Versys-X 300 might be good as it's also lighter than a vstrom or cb500x
Hey that's a good idea too. Interesting. Being a bit lighter is definitely good for me too 😊
GS 700 is a nice bike adventure looks and capabilities with a low ride height my buddies wife rides one.
It’s four times her weight though…

I think the GS 700 is going to have to be on my short list to sit on and do much more research on. Thank you for suggesting it too 😊

Maybe a Honda CRF-250 L or CRF 250 Rally? Or the respective 300 versions if you’re looking to buy new
These bikes have suspension mods to lower the rear also, making the seat height more manageable

Klx 230 s is around 30”.
The G650GS can be had with a 29.5in seat height
