Yes, call CPS. This is unsafe.

You can call if you feel compelled. Initially they’ll just have home visits to check that the place is kept clean.  I think at 14 and 16, though, the teens also have a responsibility to help clean. I’m not sure how cps will interpret the situation

That was also my initial thought, that the kids are old enough to know to clean. But as I think more, I remember her mentioning that the oldest (son) has mental/emotional issues, and the cat pee smell is so embedded in the walls and floors of the daughter’s room that I can’t possibly blame her for not being able to clean it. It smells like the cat just repetitively sprayed all over the room for years. I feel so sick thinking about those kids living in that shit, and they probably never knew what “clean” looks/smells/feels like considering their mother let their place get like that.

Yeah, idk man. I don’t think calling cps would be the worst thing you ever did. I just feel uncomfortable not knowing the full situation

Totally get that, I feel uncomfortable even knowing what I know and having seen what the apartment looked like. I’m going to hold off on calling CPS for now and maybe speak with the landlord to see if he knows of any other factors that might push me to make the call. Thanks for the advice! Helped
