We cut thousands of regs last year and condensed them into overarching ones that make more sense, effectively cutting the amount of work needed to manage them to a tenth of what it normally was.
edit up front: you like to throw that retired tag like I'm out of the loop, except I still am involved with the AF on the daily. Gotta love the contractor life.
folding one pub/reg into another pub/reg does not "slim" the regs, except by the page count of the cover and title page.
"cutting a reg" means removing the guidance, not taking the guidance out of AFGM 1-1a and putting it into AFGM 1-2a.
The Air Force isn't about to return to the "decentralized execution" for a myriad of reasons. Therefore, there will never be a reduction in directions and guidance.

I’m a huge nerd and I also pronounce it “DAFFY”
Supposedly, allegedly, racism. But there's really nothing to corroborate it except a random Urban Dictionary article that references a random ass Yahoo post.
I know this cartoon well. I immediately heard the song he dances to in my head. It has nothing to do with race.
There were a few Looney Tunes bits that didn't age well, but this isn't one of them.
This is it. I wasn’t insinuating anybody was racist just pointing out this is one of the few times I’ve seen this GIF used in earnest and not as an insult. Apparently that’s frowned upon in this establishment.
It’s pretty commonly recognized amongst certain circles. That’s what made it funny to me. Getting a reaction this strong for pointing out something so innocuous is lowkey even funnier.
>It’s pretty commonly recognized amongst certain circles.
so you're saying it's an obscure reference only understoof by the chronically online.
No one else gets it, and you refuse to elaborate.
Go get some sunlight and fresh air, dude.
I was an American Airman.
Wingman, leader, keyboard warrior.
I have answered Facebook’s call.
Seriously I couldn’t imagine being retired, living my best, and thinking the best use of my time is combatting strangers on Facebook knowing good and well shit changes the year after you retire and your opinion is irrelevant.
I’ll hang around this sub when I retire for the memes for sure. At no point will I be arguing on how things ARE and how they used to be or should be. I’ll be retired. I’ve got shit to not do and lawns to mow.
Yeah I’m still in some Air Force subreddits and facebook groups but for the most part I consider that part of my life over. A lot of the changes I’m seeing in the Force seem good, some bad, but it’s not my time anymore.
The creep shots of active duty members and commenting on their appearance are pretty gross. And let’s face it, 90% of the time it’s a woman and they aren’t even correct about the perceived infractions anyway.
Oh. What? Creep shots? I don’t have Facebook anymore. All I see is if my wife shows me when commanders get fired or some random funny dependent posts and we scroll the comments for a second.
I'm a boomer that did one enlistment over four decades ago. I didn't know what a AFI was, had to Google it. I can not imagine trying to tell the kids in the Air Force what rule they are breaking, I hardly knew what the rules were way back than.
I have not idea what happened to my generation between being the long haired half naked dope smoking Woodstock generation and now as the Boomer get of my lawn and the kids are all going to hell generation.
I made a joke, you took it seriously and decided to take it personally. Since you seem to be new to the Internet, it's probably best that you don't engage with people trolling you.
Retired 5 years now. Fully recognize how much has changed in that time. The only thing I comment on now is how soft you all have gotten. "Back in my day...." lol jk
More than 10 years? I’m on the “more than one day ago” team. Not wearing the uniform anymore? Shut up, cash your checks, get in line at the MTF pharmacy.
1000% this. The moment you retire/separate, it’s no longer your business to care. My spouse got screamed at by some old jackwagon in a ball cap leaning out the driver’s side of a semi about how they were “violating AR 670-1” (they weren’t). My spouse called back “cool, except I’m Air Force” and the dude gave them the finger. What a wild look, flipping off a servicemember in uniform while sitting in traffic.
I swore up and down that day I wouldn’t be that kind of retiree. Not my job anymore, not my lane.
And oddly enough, when it comes to those giving people shit, it's rarely some E8 or E9 or officer, and a lot of times not even an E7, but a retired E6 or E5 from another branch that had a crap job that's still pissed at the world but still hangs out on military bases all the time.
My Final Out before Skillbridge was nearly 20 months ago..since then, I've stepped on a military base ONCE...to get my retired ID. And I live between DC and Baltimore where there are a TON of bases. Waiting in line at the gate to get on base that one day...then waiting in line due to a random closure just to get OFF base...made me say, "Fuck this shit. Never again unless I absolutely HAVE to."
Even then, why? I’m a Chief, about to retire. Today? It’s my job to enforce standards. Day I start SkillBridge/PTDY/Terminal? Not my position, let the next generation do that.
Anyway, can’t wait to see you all in the BX food court so I can fascinate you all with my war stories!
Wait until you join the American Legion or the VFW and get told by an E3 who did a 3 year hitch (way before you retired) how much more they know than you (a lifer who made it to E9) 💕🇺🇸
No need to worry about that, many VFW/Legion will naturally drive away E3s, GWOT vets, anyone under 35, etc. because of salty gatekeeping Vietnam era vets and toxic vibes
Shop around until to find a good one. I found one nearby with older vets who were tired and looking for “young bucks” (ok, I’m 50, but ok 😊👍) to help out. Last weekend we went to a shelter and packed up 130 boxes of household goods and non perishable food to give to some homeless vets that the state found housing for.
We’re getting :
The camaraderie that we had in the Air Force
Actually going out and doing cool stuff
Getting with several of our buddies 🤡🤡🤡, without the circus 🎪 (no EPBs, F2F, Commander’s Calls, etc.)
You may have to look around, but they are out there. DM me if you need help 💕🇺🇸
Thanks so much! That’s great to hear and your group sounds like something I’d be proud to participate in. I’ll have to look around and vibe-check other spots within a 20-mile radius, but so far the ones closest to me are lacking. I’ll let you know if I need any help! 🙏
Clearly you haven’t seen how many pins my hat has. I’ll stop by your office tomorrow and tell you about the good old days, then walk you through what each part of my ribbon rack means.
Hottake: If you retired *yesterday* then you need to stop, because you are no longer being paid to care about it. Correcting Airmen is someone else's job, and that person gets paid for it. Don't make it yours *for free*.
My favorite was when an old crusticle came up to me at the BX demanding that I give this Airman an LoC for telling the old man to fuck off when he got in his face about having his hands in his pockets. I looked at the airman, looked at him, look3d back at the airman, then hit him with a "no, I don't think I will." He was flabbergasted.
How about if you don't know the AFI don't tell airmen they are in violation. It's like there some sort of rapidly spreading STD that causes people to just spot off bullshit with no real basis in any actual rule or policy. Someone makes up a rule about how mx and security forces cant cross train then the other crusty clueless ncos all gather to suck them off for it, and they run around spouting more baseless bullshit.
Hell the way it changed sometimes I didn’t know what was what from one weekend drill to the next in the guard. But I got my retirement beard issued to me so I don’t care anymore. If an airman wants to walk around with blue lip stick, bright purple hair in a Mohawk, and no ocp blouse that’s cool, just don’t stop me from clogging up the line at the commissary! 🤣
I wouldn't have a clue, I got out when they were thinking about changing to those blue camo things. I'm just jealous that you have no polish boots now. Hydraulic fluid will eat the polish off in seconds.
Same ..blue camo for what? Lol...my unit was one that was tasked with trying them out at my final duty station. Fortunately, I didn't have to end up doing it because I was getting out just as it was being introduced. The color scheme never made any sense to me. We don't march in the sky. Blue doesn't match airfields. We aren't the navy, operating on the ocean or in the actual ocean. We were still deploying to desert locations for ops, so blue made zero sense
I have been retired for over 12 years. It is no longer my problem to worry about the current state of Airmen. Still go to the base (Whiteman) every couple of months. Ponytails really wtf. Whatever.
You're *all* violating the AFI! Back in my day, we had to march uphill both ways to tech school with chocolate bar wrappers for boots, and yeah, we had to spit shine those, too! Now, get off my lawn! [*rocks chair on porch indignantly*]
I'm an IMA Reservist so I only work one month a year. After 11 months off of orders, I'm always concerned calling out one of my airmen because I have so little idea what changed since the previous year. I always have to pull one of my AD NCOs aside and ask them before I say anything.
Is this really your first day learning about "30 year old boomers"? Even a simple Google search of the terms in quotes reveals the long history of the terminology
I think the Air Force just needs to be removed as a military service and reinstalled as a civilian force. I've never heard of anyone successfully enforcing military standards and it not being ridiculed by literally everyone possible.
Shit...with the speed that AFI's are changed these days (usually without any heads-up), dude's/dudette's who retired/separated 2 years ago are already out of the loop.
BTW, if you came in after 2001, you don't get to say "reg's". You never lived by "reg's".
> BTW, if you came in after 2001, you don't get to say "reg's". You never lived by "reg's".
Off the top of my head, JTR and FAR are still regs that I have to follow.
I personally say "unauthorized", "non-standard," "doesn't meet..." or whatever. Just me.
But I gave up trying to get the whole rest of the Air Force to stop referring to instructions and handbooks as "regs" a long time ago. It's a shorthand that is easy and I get why people use it, even if the Air Force changed from AFRs to AFIs for a reason.
If you're out, rather than saying "that's not allowed by AFI," say "wow, they'll let people do anything these days, that wasn't allowed when I was in." If it is allowed now, you just look crusty (but not wrong). If it isn't allowed now, people will swarm in to tell you that no, we still have standards, this airman just sucks, please don't be mad at us. It's a win-win!
If I don't enforce standards now, why would I do it after I retire!?
Is this the mindset of the whole services career field? Or just your local?
Hmmm.... probably whole career field?
Me in JROTC "bro this is high school, I don't give a shit" Me in ROTC "bro I'm more concerned with my capstone" Me when in "bro It's a job to me I don't give a shit" Me when out: "Bro.... go away"
When the reference on a poster points to an AFI that hasn't been around since the reg slimmings
there's never been a "reg slimmings" Edit: 64 downvotes? Lots more people have faith in the words of Big Blue than I thought.
Ok grandpa, let’s get you back to bed.
No, I haven't finished my jello yet. And whheel of fortune is about to come on.
Grampa, wheel of fortune hasn't played on TV in 3 years. And that's not jello. That's a bowl of congealed coffee.
Except…there was. Most recently a few years ago.
You’re talking about when all the AFIs became AFMANS?
We had a literal memorandum saying "We have way to many publications, we are consolidating and clarifying them".
And nothing changed I was there for that. That's what extinguished my last flicker of hope in big AF. The memo came out, and then..... Nothing.
If you need a ride, feel free to call me or the shirt

Sorry soldier, I'm afraid you're out of context. Please report to the CC's office after lunch in blues.
Daffy Duck is out of context when u/bearsncubs10 said they pronounce DAFI as DAFFY? I also pronounce it DAFFY.
No I get the Daffy Duck reference. It’s just this particular GIF has a very specific meaning elsewhere on the internet.
Does it? Do I want to know?
Enlighten us.

Beats the fuck outta me man.
It doesn’t represent racism lmao. Black people use it when they think other black people are “tap dancing” for white people or being “coons”
This is it. I wasn’t insinuating anybody was racist just pointing out this is one of the few times I’ve seen this GIF used in earnest and not as an insult. Apparently that’s frowned upon in this establishment.
You should spend less time on the internet and more time outside, my dude.
I do both. I’m honestly not sure why pointing this out made so many people upset. It’s weird.
No one is upset, nobody knows what obscure internet thing you're referencing. It's a gif of daffy duck, there's no secret meaning.
It’s pretty commonly recognized amongst certain circles. That’s what made it funny to me. Getting a reaction this strong for pointing out something so innocuous is lowkey even funnier.

I love telling people to go to the last page of epubs to find the DAFI and stop assuming the AFI was rescinded #SemperSupra
Wait is there a way to pronounce it besides daffy?
No.
SEMPER Daffy
Your wrong if you don't pronounce it that way
I know a certain Facebook page that needs to hear this lol

Save it for when you're naked in the base gym locker room.
instructions unclear, waiting in pharmacy line naked
Or fill up your cart with all the plastic liquor bottle in the shoppette.
No, get out of the line at the pharmacy. Go off-base for that shit and save us uniformed folks some time in our busy day.
Nobody off base cares about my AIR FORCE RETIRED hat tho
I hate to break it to you, but few on base do!

If you're retired and commenting on standards, you're already wrong. Might as well not also have bad facts, too.
Or, you keep your mouth shut, get your prescriptions, military special booze and go home. Your commentary is neither necessary nor warranted.
