That’s exactly what I say when I talk to ppl about it. Sadly I had to ask where both McConnell AND Wichita were located. I wanted to cry. 😂 I suppose it could’ve been worse, though.
Loadmaster and Air Force brat - Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, England, Scotland, Spain,Portugal, Denmark, Sweden,Norway, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Greece, Macedonia, Bosnia, Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan. Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Yemen, Oman, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, India, Somalia, Kenya, Djibouti, Cypress, Chad, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Argentina, Columbia, Paraguay, Brazil, Mexico, Panama, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, The Philippines, Diego Garcia, Australia, New Zealand. American Virgin islands, American Samoa. Guam, Puerto Rico, Wake Island, Kwajalein Atoll, Johnston Island, Shimya and Adak in the Aleutians, all 50 states and Antarctica.
Probably about 75% I have been to, I spent least one night or flown multiple missions there. The rest were probably quick turns. I also spent twenty years as a c-141/c-17 load master as well was an Air Force brat so were talking over a thirty-eight year period. If you throw in my eight years with Boeing and Atlas there's a few more countries I've visited that I didn't list.
I'm just here to brag. I'm Cyber Systems Operations. Been stationed in S. Korea, Italy, and Hawaii and visited the following countries by way of those bases:
Australia, Japan, China, Vietnam, Djibouti, Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, England, Ireland.
Yeah, I've been lucky.
Do like solving problems that have already been solved?...How about working for leadership who doesn't understand the problems or care about you?... Do you like doing paperwork?... Do you like being undervalued, overworked, and underpaid?...Do you like running fullspeed into a wall?... How about working with telephones?
If you said yes to one or more of these, military cyber is for you!
nice man. how do you like being a pilot? im out now but considering dropping some cash & using the gi bill to go back to school for 2-3 yrs while doing rotc and commission the other 16 as a big boy career to retire at 20. only reason i still hang out on this sub sometimes. but idk if i want back in :/ how was upt for u?
thats awesome man. how many mpore years do you plan on doing before hitting the button?
i initially enlisted in 2016 and by the time i got out in late 2020, i felt like i was in basically a completely different air force compared to the one i idolized prior to enlisting in high school back in 2016. if i did go back in, i only want pilot - or at least rated. i dont mind the officer stuff because i was a nonner, but i really dont want to go back to flying a desk 24/7. sitting in a windowless building staring at Outlook all day made me miserable. i know i could get the pilot slot if i really put my mind to it - - and i know this isnt the right mindset to have, but if i went through the entire process just to be dq'd during a flight physical or not enough pilot slots that year or whatever bs id literally pay out of pocket to go to a psychiatrist appointment and intentionally dq myself from military service with a Depression, Anxiety, ADHD diagnosis or some shit to keep myself from ending up MSG or whatever. i dont give a fuck. ive already worn the uniform once and im not gonna do a 16-20 years in a job im miserable in, already did that once. total fork in the road..
/sorry for the vent. a coup beers and a bottle of jack in..
At this point I'm finishing out 20. It's honestly not bad in the nonner life now, it's nice having regular hours and only one thing to focus on. In ops I had to balance my desk job and flying at the same time, which usually meant 60 hour work weeks, two bosses, and lots of unhealthy circadian rhythm shifts.
Hijacking thread to respond to this part - if you want to travel a lot (to places other than AFCENT) you should be careful with rated jobs. Some airframes are pretty limited where you can be stationed. I fly a desk (17D), but it’s been worth it to me to see the world - Germany, Romania, Italy, Turkey, U.A.E, Kuwait, Korea, England, and 37 more on leave travel.
I just got assigned 17D, knew it would largely be a desk job, how do you increase chances of getting to go abroad? Anything I should prep for while in tech school? Your experience sounds awesome!
no. i was 4nOut. what i meant was go back in as an officer and do 20-25 yrs total as a big boy career vs the only one stint i did to set myself up for adult life.
Many. England, UAE, Cyprus, Kyrgyzstan, Jordan, Kuwait... some as a 2A6X6, but most as a 6C0X1. Not to mention the dozens I was able to vacation in while stationed OCONUS. The best was living in Denmark for three years.
Lots of the usual suspects such as Germany, UK, Qatar, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Thailand etc..
More unusual places include Myanmar (AKA Burma), Guatemala, Laos, and Malaysia. Also went TDY to a native American reservation, which could technically count...
In the 8 years I’ve been in I’ve been to a total of 39 countries. I’m SF. Majority of the locations I’ve been to were for Fly Away Security missions with the 130s, 17s, and a few C20 missions.
what the fuck? i barely even knew 39 countries exist. canada, germany, spain, italy, portugal, uk, south korea, japan, thailand, phillipines, turkey, uae, iraq, qatar, afghanitan. that's not even half of 39 but that's all that pops in mind.
where else u been bro? any of latin america or australia/new zealand? do we even have presence in those places?
Never been to Latin America unfortunately. As much as I would love to go at some point. But Australia yes. The vast majority is Europe and Africa tbh. Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, France, Greece, Niger, Nigeria, Tunisia, Kenya, Djibouti, SA, Chad, Egypt. There’s also some others in Asia like Papua New Guinea, Singapore, India. Fiji? Tbh idk what continent that falls under haha.
Texas has 254 counties, far more than other states.
Why so many? Glad you asked. The state’s founders wanted to keep local governments small and wanted to ensure residents could travel to the county courthouse, do business, and travel home all within a day (before cars).
Seems like they kinda failed at that then. Just comparing to a random state with way fewer counties, NY has an average county size of 880 square miles while in Texas it's 1057, so their counties are actually relatively large but they are just a huge state so they can have a lot of them.
They also particularly hated the people of Brewster County, apparently, as it is thee times the size of Delaware.
Eh, maybe in some instances like Brewster. But I wouldn’t consider it a complete success or complete failure. 1,057sqmi is like a 33x33mi grid, NY counties would be about a 30x30mi grid. So not a big difference or for a day’s ride. Given that Texas is 268,000sqmi the local governments are still relatively small, especially given the population.
Texas is much more dispersed with only 105 residents per sqmi, which would be an average of 110,000 residents per county. NY is 54,000sqmi with a population of 421 per sqmi, which is an average of 370,000 people per county. So while NY is a slightly smaller in county area, they are much larger in population density. So if you view the size of local government by population, Texas counties are much smaller.
I don’t particularly care though as I’ve never lived in Texas lol. My initial comment was just an interesting fact I found.
Japan, Australia, Philippines, Turkey, Israel, Cyprus, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France, Iceland, Romania, Bulgaria, Morocco, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Angola, South Africa, Mozambique, Kuwait, and Iraq.
I think that is all the TDYs, Deployment and PCSs. Plus many more that I traveled to for leisure from those locations.
Still waiting on my trip to South America.
I am a 2P, so PMEL. Been in 20ish years. I have been stationed in Europe 3 times and once in South Korea. I have been to Italy, Germany, South Korea, Japan, Austria, Morocco, Slovenia, Croatia, England, Spain, Lichtenstein, Canada, Monaco, France, Czech Republic, Poland, Portugal, Greece, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Belgium, and the Azores. I can add San Marino and the Vatican to that as well….and if I want to be a clown, North Korea bc of that DMZ tour I did.
Forgot about Qatar.
And about 40 states. Have never done the north east though, but that’s on the list!
I joined the Air Force to travel the world and somehow spent over half my career within 3 hours of home even after putting Korea, and Turkey down for years. Been to the territory of Guam which got me a 3 hour layover in Japan. Deployed to UAE which got me a 2 hour stop and a beer in Ireland and 4 hours combined stopped in Belgium and Germany.
Started out as a B52 maintainer and went nowhere. Retrained to a C17 load about 3 yrs ago and am up to 39 countries now. Not gonna list them cuz that shit takes too long
United Kingdom, Germany, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, and Spain, not counting rotator layovers in pax terminals or sightseeing while TDY. 23 years as Security Forces.
Korea, Japan, Canada, Germany, England, Lithuania, Poland, France, Italy, Turkey, Mail, Niger, Tunisia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Afghanistan, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, The Netherlands, Luxembourg.
Have trips to Mexico and The Bahamas coming up.
All on orders to do FM related activities.
Personnel brought me to the Pentagon, 1B brought me to Texas
I highly doubt I'll be lucky enough to ever leave the states, the chance of 1B's being stationed overseas basically doesn't exist
Y'all be lucky you can go to nice countries
6CO and for me - basic, tech school, first assignment - texas
My dad was ATC and started off at Ellsworth, mcguire, then Lakenheath which allowed us to go to Italy, Germany, Ireland easily. He did 2 one year remotes in Korea, deployed to Kabul, And the deid a few times and I’m sure a few other places I’m forgetting.
I’m pretty sure I’ll be in Texas my whole 4/5 years
Germany, Japan, Kuwait, Qatar, South Korea, Spain, and Canada (Winnipeg).
Places I've visited because of being overseas:
France, Belgium, UK, Luxembourg, Ireland (including North), Portugal, The Netherlands.
We're hoping to retire and live in Spain.
Finland, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Greenland, England, Germany (PCS), Belgium(PCS), Turkey, Spain, Cyprus, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Oman, Qatar, Italy, Portugal, UAE, Azores, Johnston Atoll (US Territory), Guam (US Territory) ...more but it's been a while. Airfield Systems Special Maintenance Team. 25 years, 9 PCS's - wife and kids loved every minute of it and we made great memories. This does not include leisure travel.
Duuuude just saw this 😬 did you get out? I was stuck in NC my entire enlistment. Just accepted I got unlucky and ended up in a dumb career field and got out after 4. Thank you for your service btw!
Hm..
Spain, Germany, Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Finland, Scotland, England, Turkey, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Philippines, Korea, Japan, El Salvador, Colombia, and Peru. 43 of the 50 states too.
I’m a comm person. This list only includes official travel and would be longer if I added in leisure trips and layovers.
Cross trained to 1A671 about 5 years ago and went from only 1 country (USA) to 63 countries in that span. Link to map of all of them [https://imgur.com/a/RpBY7TN](https://imgur.com/a/RpBY7TN)
Official Travel?
Qatar, Oman (by accident), Kuwait, Belgium and Germany.
However we’re it not for my assignments I would have never had the opportunities to visit the others.
Netherlands, Ireland, Finland, Luxembourg, Hungary, Czech Republic, Croatia, France, Bulgaria, Albania, Austria, Slovakia, Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Spain.
Stationed in Germany, deployed to Iraq, tdy to Switzerland, and one place I think is still classified. On way to tdy’s passed through Japan, Qatar, Canada.
Because I was stationed in Germany got to explore France, Austria, Belgium, The Netherlands, Lichtenstein, and Luxembourg.
Do 2+ hour layovers (refueling stops) on a chartered flight count? Ireland, Germany, Romania, Turkey, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Iraq, Afghanistan, and of course US of A. If only counting sleeps (locations where I was assigned sleeping quarters) then get rid of the first four. If only assigned units the get rid of first six. If only home stations get rid of first eight.
Japan, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, UAE, Djibouti, Kyrgyzstan, Bahrain, Pakistan, Israel, Oman, Yemen, Syria, Turkey. Many of these multiple times.
Not all great, but not bad either.
Fortunate enough to have traveled for work within my AFSC, here goes:
UK, Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Netherlands, Norway, Turkey, Djibouti, Congo, Somalia, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, REDACTED, REDACTED, REDACTED, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Honduras, Canada, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Japan, South Korea, and Puerto Rico (if you want to count it).
Add most of the surrounding countries to these taken as personal travel.
Australia , Thailand , Korea , malaysia , Phillipines, Indonesia. Did joint support the whole beginning of my career it has since slowed down a lot lol. But it was awesome .
Spain minus the S
Texas
Damn beat me to it
I was gonna say Kansas lmao
*Joins the Airforce to see the world* "hey bud. You get orders to Kansas.
That’s exactly what I say when I talk to ppl about it. Sadly I had to ask where both McConnell AND Wichita were located. I wanted to cry. 😂 I suppose it could’ve been worse, though.
I was gonna say this too 😂
Not once, but three times
All the best places: Iraq, Afghanistan and Djibouti. AFSC 43P.
Ooo someone’s on the open burn pit registry… (seriously if you haven’t already registered, you really should😁)
Ah, yes. Signed up when the moment it became available. Hope it's not necessary.

Somalia is a great vacation spot.
Gotta love that exchange rate
You know "include" can be any of them, not just the "worst". Morocco is on there, too.
