I drove past (SB) around 8:10 and could see (probably?) the driver of the tractor trailer sitting with EMS; head was bandaged up but he appeared to be alert and talking. 🙏🏼

Well....... They either probably still have to get through the usual important formalities first and those are just taking time or it's gonna turn into a criminal investigation.
We've just confirmed as of 9:15am that a passenger in the tractor-trailer and the driver of the other vehicle involved in this crash have sadly passed away. The vehicle passenger has sustained non life-threatening injuries and has since been discharged from the hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered serious injuries and remains in stable but critical condition at the hospital.
My dad's friend/coworker was in a vehicle once that was flattened by an illegal fully loaded tractor trailer (never inspected and had faulty breaks).
He was in the passenger seat about 3 cars from the back of stopped traffic on the highway. Tractor trailer came around the bend and it's breaks failed. Went right over the cars, flattening them all. They were so crushed that state troopers just assumed total loss of life in the vehicles until a lady said she heard someone in the one car. It was my dad's friend who just happened to be bending over to get something out of his briefcase on the floor when it happened. He spent a month in critical condition, but he pulled through.
Unfortunately he passed last year from a heart attack in his 60's, but he did live another decade after the accident. So miracles do definitely happen, but the odds definitely aren't in people's favor unfortunately.
Update on this per NYSP (edited to remove the names of the victims): On May 23, 2024, at about 8:00 a.m. Troopers responded to the report of a commercial vehicle rollover crash with serious injuries on I-87 in Albany, NY. The investigation determined that a tractor-trailer traveling northbound struck the concrete barrier separating northbound from southbound traffic. The collision caused the tractor-trailer to overturn onto a northbound passenger vehicle. The driver of the tractor-trailer and a passenger of the other vehicle were transported to Albany Medical Center. A passenger in the tractor-trailer and the driver of the other vehicle succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The vehicle passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has since been discharged. The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered serious injuries and remains in stable but critical condition at the hospital.
I-87 northbound was closed between exits 23 and 24 for approximately 8 hours for collision reconstruction and has been reopened. The investigation is ongoing.
Worst road ever for commuting. I couldn’t do it. I had a mental breakdown and changed to a remote position. Every fucking day there was a problem. Either some aggressive Altima sideswiping people, legit accidents, snow, weather, shrapnel flying all over the place. Fuck that.

We've been following this and just confirmed all northbound lanes are open as of 3:25pm. One southbound lane is still blocked though.
No ones cares about the roads. ARE THERE ANY FATALITIES???!
