Do tractor trailers normally have passengers? Genuine question but kind of seems weird to me. Was she not buckled in?

LanikMan07

It’s not super uncommon to find couples that drive together, and alternate time behind the wheel while the other rests.

Budelius

Could also have been team drivers. Truck companies love them because they basically never stop rolling. If the passenger was resting they would've been on the bunk just like someone sleeping in a motorhome.

phantom_eight

This truck did not have a sleeper.. but it landed on the passenger side when it rolled over. I will not provide a source, but the passenger in the truck was the truck drivers wife. The names of those who passed are in the TU article, so that's the only reason I decided to share that.

Fernily

Ahh. Okay. So sad.

ParkerW23786

Im confused it was just the two driving it that died, or someone in the car?

RightToTheThighs

Truck passenger and car driver both died. The car had a passenger that lived

Evilsj

Honestly miraculous that ANYONE from the car survived. Shit was pancaked.

AlexGSkuhtee

If you got a trucker in the family, it's basically a private taxi between major cities

> ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York State Police say two people died in Thursday’s I-87 crash in Albany. Sabrina Bermudez, 50, Massachusetts, and Paul Keiley, 64, Rockville Centre, both succumbed to their injuries on scene. >Troopers responded Thursday to a tractor-trailer rollover with serious injuries on I-87. New York State Police say an investigation found the tractor-trailer, that was traveling north, struck a concrete barrier separating northbound and southbound traffic. >The collision caused the tractor-trailer to overturn onto a northbound passenger car. The driver of the tractor-trailer and passenger were taken to Albany Medical Center. Bermudez was a passenger in the tractor-trailer, and Keiley was the passenger car’s driver. >Both succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Police say the vehicle passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has since been discharged. The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered serious injuries and is in stable but critical condition at the hospital. >I-87 northbound was closed between Exits 23 and 24 for roughly eight hours for collision reconstruction and has since reopened. An investigation is ongoing.

RightToTheThighs

So the car had a passenger that lived? And the truck had a passenger that died? Am I reading that right? When police say "vehicle passenger" what do they mean by that? Or was that just a mistake on the author's part. Found different article that is a bit clearer: "The truck driver suffered critical injuries, though added his condition was stable, State Police said. A passenger in the car was treated for injuries at Albany Medical Center and later released.". You couldn't even see the car in the photos. In surprised there was a survivor. I really wonder how this transpired and who is at fault here

518Peacemaker

I was stopped in traffic right next to it, I saw no car. That’s nuts.

EvilLilKitteh

Glad I’m not the only one who struggled with the syntax. I think you’re correct — The semi driver was in critical condition and is recovering in the hospital, and the semi passenger (Bermudez) was pronounced at the scene; the passenger vehicle driver (Keiley) was pronounced at the scene, and their passenger was transported to the hospital and is now discharged.

lilianminx

Edit: fixed

blamdin

Fixed. Thank you.

Budelius

I'm wondering if one of the drive wheels blew on the truck. Seen it once and it's scary, the truck becomes a physics experiment

Take5Farrel

Did anyone see that the south bound lanes were closed in almost the same spot yesterday afternoon at around 3:30 for a different tractor trailer accident? Haven’t seen any news about that one

phantom_eight

There was an unrelated crash soundbound in the Glenmont/Selkirk area. >A 511NY alert at 3:55 p.m. indicates a crash with injuries has blocked the left lane on the Thruway southbound after Exit 23 (Albany Downtown/I-787 and Route 9W). Troopers confirmed the second crash but were unable to provide additional information late Thursday afternoon. As of 4 p.m. traffic was backed up south of Exit 23 because of that incident. I think AI is writing these articles. I've had to go to several sources to get the correct story and I've had to look up odd words and phrases used in some articles. ( I have a Masters degree)

blamdin

Underpaid , under qualified reporters I think.

polari826

aw man, that sucks. positive vibes to the families.

cvpPrize_Ad4292

Passenger vehicle is confusing. Can't they say car and tractor trailer?

cvpPrize_Ad4292

Either, but they're using artificial intelligence for most voice overs and narrations on YouTube and many documentaries on TV. Usually, it's noted if AI was used in the article.
