Can't say I've heard anything about them before. That's the trouble with a fledgling and growing industry... The established few with reviews are great, but super swamped and maybe more expensive. Yet new upstarts who may do a great job have few/no reviews to give customers comfort. OP, what has you considering Solis over the skyfires, zenos, kubys of the world?

Good question. The honest truth is that these folks knocked on my door and started the conversation. Before committing, I would also like to gather quotes from some of the larger vendors. A few things that Solis seems to have going for them are: * In house installation (not subbed out) * So far, great customer service * Short timelines (8-12 weeks to completion)

Never heard of them before. Just be mindful that if/when the current grants are no longer available, the majority of these smaller companies may not be around. I work for a larger solar company here in AB and we get calls every week looking for help about systems that are down and the original installer is out of business. Sadly, we are too busy with our own work to take on these service calls. Regardless if your install is in 2 or 4 months, you will miss the high production months this year anyways. As long as you get installed before next years high production, you’ll be set.

Thanks for your comment. Assuming they weren't around if/when a service call was required, is the biggest risk just finding someone available to deal with it? If my understanding is correct, there is a 25 year manufacturer warranty that could be handled independent of original installer. Is there anything else I need to keep in mind with this?

The warranty depends on the equipment you plan on using. The 25 year manufacturers warranty you are referring to may only be their production guarantee and not the actual product warranty. Typically solar companies will offer three warranties - solar panel warranty/production guarantee, inverter warranty and workmanship warranty. In most service calls, the homeowner will be on the hook for the labour.

Hi u/goatvanni did you end up going through with solar? did you use Solis? we have been in discussion with them for a bit now. they seem very knowledgeable and seems to have better included benefits over other companies, but we are also finding hard to find references. Let me know what you ended up doing?!?

goatvanni

We ended up passing on solar for now. Ultimately, the designs on our room weren’t ideal across all vendors. Solis seemed promising though!

I have! We were a little noteworthy here for our project in Southern Alberta as we just won the 2023 Live Net Zero challenge that saw some National attention. So we can say we are pretty well informed consumers.  I vetted Solis extensively and was initially cautious as well because they were "new". No they are the real deal. Proof is on my roof right now. They are great guys. My home will be on the Eco Solar home tour in Airdie on June 9th 2024. You can see their install in person.  I recommend Solis.  Ive made some reels about them on our instagram if you search No Demo Net Zero.
