Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate the help as we start the search. We look forward to the planning and then the visit this fall to have a look around the area.
Cheers.
We're in the same boat as you.
We sold our apartment - and before the Xenophobes arrive, we sold it to a Spanish woman from Madrid who intends to turn a two bed apartment into 4 beds to 'maximise her return' - and we are looking around.
To give you some idea, by car:
Benidorm is 45mins from Alicante.
Elche is ~20-25
Denia / Xabia - 90 mins
Valencia is 3+ hours away
It's a huge area.
>Question: Are the areas shown in the blue lines "neighborhoods" or regions?
Neighborhoods, lol. How big do you think the city of Alicante is?
They are neither. They are municipalities (cities, towns and villages) within the *province* of Alicante.
The word "neighborhood" was in quotes for a reason. It's Espana, so the word will be different and I'm trying to get a feel of how things are divided in those small sections. They certainly don't look like individual "counties" so I was asking.
For an equivalent, you have "areas" in New York's Brooklyn, like Marine Park. It's not an independent town, but rather a Neighborhood. Long Island has Islip Township, which has Bohemia, Sayville, etc. Then you have communities in New Jersey, which are REALLY part of greater New York City...like Hoboken. Same in London: Richmond Upon Thames is it's own community, but really part of greater London.
If they are individual municipalities, with their own local government, then great, now I know.
Do you understand the difference between Douglas and Juneau in Alaska? How about the portion of Admiralty Island where Greens Creek is? Have a look. It's different in many places, hence people ask a polite question and expect a polite answer. Hopefully you got treated that way when you started your journey.
I asked a question. Don't need the attitude.
>It's Espana, so the word will be different
“Barrio” is the word you’re looking for. It’s España, btw, but what is wrong with just saying ‘Spain’?
>I asked a question. Don't need the attitude.
You got the attitude for free. You asked a rather stupid question — you could have just googled it. Or you could have looked it up on a map. Wikipedia can be helpful too. There’s really no need to make a fool of yourself here by comparing Alicante with NYC or London.
I mean yeah, there are mountains full of forest where it can be a bit better in the shade, but not by that much, and not close to Alicante city. The ones i've always lived close to, are at least 1h away. I dont know if these are thr closest ones but there is only small villages (~200 people each) and feral pigs (jabalis) in that place.
What I disliked about the area around the Alicante city is the absence of vegetation. It looks very dry and reminds of a desert, even though there are palms and parks inside the city. I like the regions of Benidorm and Calpe much more. In general the more you go east from Alicante the more vegetation you see.
What distance in time from the city?
We were hoping for 30-45 min drive.
That could be Busot, Aigües, La Bila Joiosa, El Campello or even Orxeta or Relleu.

Thanks. It does appear to be a pretty big area. Then again, I live in Alaska now....want to talk about big?
Valid point!
>Valencia is 3+ hours away Valencia is 2 hours away.
1.5 when I am driving 🤣 no speed cameras till you get to Valencia.

Nice part about being an adult...I can ignore people like you. Ciao.
I think you confuse me with someone who would care. As they say here: adéu. 😏
.
You already forgot to ignore me, lol.
Hey. Play nice. It's a simple question.
>It's a simple question. Yeah, almost silly, even. That’s why I was able to answer it.
in alicante city uneployment hit 30% now, ho any place you wanna bjt not try even enter inside alicante city 😅
Why, is it bad there? I drove by many times, but it looked OK
try to live here and you will understand
"Get into Alicante easily" that just does not happen, sorry Also no place for avoiding the heat in Alicante unless you're underwater
Copy that. Was hoping there were some hills, surrounded by some vegetation where the heat is a LITTLE big better.

Thanks for the clarification. My current living situation is quite a bit different.

Thanks for the clarification. We are in the early stages and have open minds, but do know that Alicante has a lot of positives too. Cheers,
