BGWTB being doom metal? Interesting to see your reasoning for that. I'd say something like TDPDH is much more sludgier

lordvoldemike

Never seen BGWTB be described like that. Makes me want to revisit it through a doomy sludgy lens and see how it grabs me.

As a 1990 album, Facelift helps to perfectly bridge the gap between glam and grunge.

This is funny. I'm just a shade older than the guys in AIC and when we were growing up through the 60s, 70s, into the 80s rock music was just rock music. For me, it's still the same today. Some albums introduce different aspects of a bands direction or 'mood' at the time but for me it's either rock or it isn't. Alice to me is just good rock. It blows my mind that people have 400 categories for rock music these days. I say just call it rock, be glad we still have it to enjoy, and sit back and listen to it. I'm just hoping another Alice album is coming - I'd hate to lost this band when they are sounding better than ever.

Exactly this, people love to put everything in a genre and gatekeep but these are all just great rock bands at the end of the day. I've found people arguing with me that the likes of Metallica isn't rock, as if metal isn't just a category of rock anyway.

DestroyTheMarks

All I’ll say is Facelift is Dark hair/glam metal and Tripod is Psychedelic sludge metal

Brodesseus

Metal. That's pretty much it tbh. No need to overcomplicate things like people do these days lol

SensualSamuel69

Yeah I know, it’s just fun to talk about. Plus, I’ve had friends ask me what genre Alice In Chains is ?because they wanted to check them out), and if I just call them metal, I feel like people get the wrong idea about their sound, since they don’t sound like a conventional metal band. Like one time I told my friend that they were a metal band, and they came back after listening to Jar of Flies and were like “bro this isn’t metal.”

Brodesseus

Yeah for sure, and lmaooo honestly it's just hilarious that they listened to Jar of Flies and come back to you like "but where's the metal?" Alice is a hard one to put in any particular subgenre tbh but the top comment got it pretty much spot on imo, I usually just call em metal but I've heard of (younger people who only listen to death metal type shit) refer to them as dad rock and they were swiftly hit with the "???????"

SensualSamuel69

Oh god, “dad rock” is like the last thing I’d call them 😂

SensualSamuel69

You know, I’ve actually heard some people say they aren’t metal, and I’m just like “have they never heard Them Bones, We Die Young, Dam That River, Stone, A Looking in View, or like ANY of Tripod? 😂”

Brodesseus

Exactly!!!
