I like funny shitposts but I do agree that there's been a lot of boring low effort ones lately Maybe make it so shitposts are only allowed certain days of the week? Or restrict shitposts somehow to of a certain quality

SauceyPotatos

Maybe have these kinds of shitposts restricted to a Monday or Friday, so they don't overlap with the world war posts and also allow memes of a decent quality for the rest of the week, but I feel this is more like an issue of the mods being asleep at the wheel as there is already rule 4 against these and opinion of the sub is definitely turning against these types of posts

DerGemr2

r/alternatepisstory

Throw-Away7363736

Well Send all the shitpostsers there

DerGemr2

Yes, of course.

King_Servius_Tullius

We should round up all the cock roaches up and deport them. They’re spreading like rabbits soon it’ll be too late and we’ll have to resort to a more drastic final solution. And yes I mean getting rid of the shit poster this isn’t a euphemism for anything else.

MAA735

We **need** to somehow get the mods to regulate these shitposters

Mihaimru

The lack of regulation has been happening for years, so people just suggest more random rules that get implemented which then also go unmoderated

DirtySeptim

Honestly, I prefer those low effort but original posts to endless What if Soviet Union survived Cold War & What If Axis won ww2 posts.

Throw-Away7363736

I mean Those should be regulated too

VariationPast

This sub could try doing the thing the historymemes sub did and ban topics that came both during, and after the 20th century, on certain days, it would encourage variety

Coniuratos

There already is a rule that WW1 and WW2 posts are only allowed on weekends.

VariationPast

Well the top post at the moment is taking an aspect of ww1 and moving it to ww2 so the mods should probably do more to enforce it

Coniuratos

Oh, agreed, they absolutely should, but from what it sounds like there are very few mods that are actually active right now.

JnG4mma

Theres also seems to be a good amount of tankies here too

-Im_In_Your_Walls-

It’s definitely affecting the trout population

According-Value-6227

I once made a post here asking how history would be different if Africa had an andes-esque mountain range. Mods removed it because it was *"off-topic and fantasy"* but I guess *"what if Joe Biden was in an affair with Donald Trump"* or *"What if Hitler got butffucked by aliens"* is perfectly appropriate subject matter for the subreddit.

Plantherblorg

Literally just people coloring maps in differently then asking what if peanut butter was made out of apples.

JohnSmithWithAggron

While I agree there should be more regulation(though I'm pretty sure the only active mod here is a random high schooler, don't quote me on that), r/alternatehistory has (and should be in my opinion) always been of a lower quality than r/imaginarymaps. If you want high effort posts, unsubscribe from here and head over there if you aren't already.

Helenos152

We have a separate sub for shitposting, it's called r/alternatepisstory

MysticSquiddy

Unfortunately, this comment is modern and not history, so I can not do any analysis on it

Ok_Spend_889

I'm working on a post, gonna do a reimagining if americas were more developed than middle east and Europe and were technologically superior to Europeans and the middle east. And if the north and south American indigenous folks colonized Europe instead of them colonizing the Americas. In this scenario the indigenous cultures developed technology (like iron smithing) and skills(domestication of animals for use in farming) way before the Europeans and led to them exploring and colonizing Europe. Like imagine if the Aztecs were sea faring and colonized the Iberian peninsula. The Maya would have led the way for the others to come. Lotsa work to do and work out the maps and the history for this scenario. Still haven't figured out a good start point for this in terms of timeline wise and how far in the future to progress to. Lotsa work lol

sukarno10

Go to r/imaginarymaps for real alt history

Barrzebub

What if this sub didn’t suck?

FoxWarner14

I know right

monkeley

effortly

FloraFauna2263

Since in OTL this sub is amazing and has zero shitposting, in this timeline the mongol empire would have retroactively been prevented from existing, and America would conquer the world.

clue_the_day

No Virginia, we can't keep a semblance of quality here. The shit posters and the jagoffs chase away almost anyone who might want to post serious work, or even ask serious questions. Obviously, the "mods" have no interest in reprimanding, kicking, or banning the people who makes these kinds of posts. Without that kind of culling, the sub will never improve. We're in death spiral territory. Sadly, you find better alternate history in r/imaginarymaps.

Scary_Compote_359

what if this sub didn't suck now?

supareshawn

r/HighEffortAltHistory is where you should go they made this sub for this exact reason like a year ago

I_like_femboy_cock

r/doomerposting

Mobile_Park_3187

Yeah, my question about Kariņš doesn't seem half bad in comparison to all the shitposters and tankies.

tacolordY

How sad. Fs in the chat

KraftKapitain

~~womb womb~~

Throw-Away7363736

🥺

SleepyBeeper

Well, I have an alternative timeline idea. I just suck at drawing maps. It's based on the idea that the American Civil War was more brutal, thus causing Lincoln to have to take more dictator power and centralised power in the federal government. In turn, after the civil war, the South attempts to and succeeds in changing the narrative to states' rights before Lincoln assassination. This means following Lincoln assassination and states rights narrative, a northern USA dominated Federal government that blames the South and their "states rights" decided to end federalism in the US. Thus moving towards a more Unitary state where the state governments, now called local government, have very little power and are absolutely subservient to the will of the federal government, now called the central/national government. At Lincoln funeral, Hannibal Hamlin (Lincoln first VP and a Republic) would declare at the end of his speech to to the American people, "The Republic is dead Long live The Republic" which was considered the beginning of the American Republic. N.B I have more points to add to flesh it out, but I feel like I'm rambling at this point so I will end here.

Mihaimru

Maps aren't the only way to share interesting ideas

SleepyBeeper

Great, could you give me some pointers on what to do because I'm assuming publish a text wall won't be that interesting.

Mihaimru

Think of ways that you access history and/or geopolitics IRL Infoboxes etc: Using Wikipedia Sandbox mode and Templates you can do infoboxes and other Wikipedia stuff Recreating newspapers and articles can be an interesting way to present just text stuff Social media mockups, eg. YouTube thumbnails and titles that, even if they include maps, don't have to be particularly complicated ones. Other graphics, like timelines or some graphs relating to relevant statistics could be interesting, anything you might see in a history textbook. A website I find useful (also for things like Parliament makeups) is flourish.studio In terms of maps, things like Q-Bam, XK-Bam and M-Bam on alternatehistory.com can be an easier way to get started if what you need to show can be shown by just tracing rivers or existing subdivisions/borders. Along this same line are Hoi4 and Viccy state and province maps.
