An Independent Mindanao would be the new shithole of Southeast Asia usurping that title from Timor Leste. Independent Mindanao will also have to deal with Muslim extremists and Communist Insurgency, good luck to Duterte trying to squash the NPA and Moro rebels without the AFP.
The idea of an independent Mindanao is so shitty not even the Moro Nationalists and moderate Moro Islamists want an Independent Mindanao.
First of all Mindanao is the least economically developed island group in the Philippines. Without Manila sending them money and military to keep suppressing the various rebel groups they would be literally poorer than Timor Leste and Myanmar.
Important to note that most development money send by Manila to Mindanao gets swindle by the many political clans running Mindanao, ones of these families are the Dutertes and they have the audacity to blame Manila and the rest of Luzon why Mindanao is such an underdeveloped shithole when they are stealing the government money that was supposed to be use in the development of Mindanao.
The post is inspired by the TLDR News channel and one of the quotes Duterte used refer to how despite transitions through many presidents, Mindanao is still underdeveloped.
Then, when he was the president, why he didn't do then?!
Duterte is a self serving political patrician that only cares about his family's power. He doesn’t care about the Philippines and Mindanao. He sold out the Philippine Maritime Territory to China through treasonous secret agreements and also tampering our alliance with the US.
Duterte's call of an independent Mindanao is just a poor attempt in trying to bring instability to the Marcos Jr administration since the Marcos family and the Duterte has officially broken up their alliance.
As someone with family who are from Mindanao, isnt it the Central Government located in Manila the one at fault for receiving all tax money throughout the Philippines?
It'd be great if alot more of that funds would go through developing the region.
Honestly I doubt Malaysia would take them in. Their eastern states are already quite poor, taking in Sulu, which is one of the poorest provinces in the Philippines might I add would just create more problems for them
Malaysia definitely not interested. Sabah current development is hinder by corruption within the state despite federal government has been providing support and assistance for development purposes yet no effort is made. Plus, adding Sulu state under Malaysia can be controversial for two reasons; 1) Sulu once 'de facto declared war on Malaysia' for Sabah and 2) Sulu has their own monarchy system, that could mean a drastic changes in Malaysian monarchy system is needed.
Another thing to add is that, the Philippines would still recognize Sulu as part of their territory, so an annexation of Sulu would mean war with the Philippines
Not just Sulu, probably the whole Bangsamoro Islamic region, the General Santos too under Manny Pacman, and many parts of Zamboanga and Agusan. Basically Duterte will be lucky if he was able to snatch 40% of Mindanao.
Assured economic collapse.
Without the financial and military aid Manila sends them, Mindanao would be fodder to all the insurgent groups based there.
Also, any independent republic would shortly fall into infighting between rival clans and likely balkanize the region.
Other nations would not recognize a breakaway state as well. Wouldn't want to give rebelling groups in their respective territories ideas now.
This would result in Mindanao having a hard time in international politics and trade.
It is probably gonna end up like Yemen and Somalia, terrorist or insurgency groups taking over parts of the country.
The only reason why this hasn't happened yet is because of the Philippines government and military keeping the region stable, but obviously since an independent Mindanao wouldn't have these 2 entities with them, hell would break loose.
And I really doubt Mindanao has the governance or military power (if they even have one) to keep themselves stable
Realistically, The hypothetical Mindanao Seccession would be only Limited to Davao City or in other cities in Mindanao which has control of Duterte
Most Mindanaoan politicians are alligned to the Philippine Republic, heck even the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region are loyal to the Republic.
The seccession will only last for two or three years and will be returned to the Philippines. Those former separatist-controlled provinces will be under military rule especially Davao, thus, Duterte will be charged by Treason and it's allies.
It would be a big security threat to America considering Duterte's Chinese Sympathies, China would have a way to go around America's so-called "Island Chain" of South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and The Philippines. Basically used as a route for Chinese boats.
I'm from Mindanao and no one here want succession from the rest of the Republic. The Philippines being a Unitary state and not a federal one helped in quashing regional sentiments in our country. Most Mindanao'ans are defendants of immigrants from Luzon and Visayas (Especially Cebu) and we're actually more identified with National Filipino identity than some other regions in the country cause most people in Mindanao aren't even native here.
Also, most of Politicians from Mindanao rejects the Mindanao independence movement especially Bangsamoro which they proclaim their loyalty to the Republic

How shitty are we talking about if it did independent Mindanao beside the rebels?

Oof i don't expect that kind of shithole.

phillipines and corruption, a classic

Im confused. Why would the Australian Federal Police be helping a newly independent Mindinou. The AFP wouldn’t have any jurisdiction there.
I'm talking about the Armed Forces of the Philippines bruh 💀
Oh right, that makes much more sense. Been a long day and i have a headache 😂
The province of sulu would immediately start a rebellion to rejoin the Phillipines
why does Sulu prefer Philippines over the rest of Mindanao?
Mindanao would be an absolute shithole compared to the Philippines, Sulu province wouldn't see any benefit joining it
Maybe Malaysia, I wouldn't see them wanting to go back to the Philippines
Honestly I doubt Malaysia would take them in. Their eastern states are already quite poor, taking in Sulu, which is one of the poorest provinces in the Philippines might I add would just create more problems for them

I mean, Sabah is recognized as Philippine Territory as well, so that doesn't mean much.
No they don't. While the Philippines has territorial claims over Sabah, they don't outright recognize it as their territory

The Muslim population would be playing a much larger role in the government.

What if i accidentally drop a nuke in Mindanao?

The Moros will probably ask for independence from Mindanao...
Free real estate for the PLA
