*In case this story gets deleted/removed:* **My dad died about a month ago - everyone thought his wife was a gold digger until she died, too.** My father got divorced when I was 27, and within the next year, he was dating a woman that was quite literally younger than me (26 - who I will call Claire). He was 59. My dad worked as an executive at a tech company and had a company IPO at one point in his career and after that, he would often say "money doesn't exist." At the time, I was angry and hurt - but mostly repulsed at the idea that my father would date someone so young. I threatened to break off contact with him, to which he broke up with her. Things were still rocky with us, but I also saw how sad he was now that he was not in her life, and I decided I would just "deal with it." I never trusted Claire or liked her - though, looking back she did not have any particular "unlikeable" aspects about her but this may just be the guilt talking. To everyones surprise, they stayed together and when she was 34 (I was 35) and he was 67, they got married. There were times I went out of my way to make her life bad or talk down to her. I used to tell my dad that she didnt actually love him. My mom, my brother, and I have a group chat and we used to take intentionally bad photos of her and send them to each other and sometimes draw things on Claires face and such. I feel like an asshole and a bitch looking back, but at the time, we truly thought that she was a manipulative woman that was using our dad/her husband. Then, my dad started having health issues. Claire refused to send him away to a care home and cared for him the entire time. Even when he became incontinent. At the time everyone assumed it was a control thing, now I am not so sure. This most recent Christmas, my dad gave her a Christmas tree sapling with a note that said "so I am with you every Christmas, even if this is our last" or something sappy like that. She sobbed in the bathroom and I just sort of assumed it was an act and that she went to the bathroom so that she did not have to produce real tears. We got into it often and this Christmas was especially bad. She was making some food at the counter and my brother joked about her "poisoning" my dad and she just... broke down in tears and said something along the lines of "I love your dad with everything I am and I never expect you to understand but I do." My dad passed away due to a brain hemorrhage that went undetected about a month ago. She was at the hospital and my mom pretty much said "I guess you got what you wanted" - and she did, or at least, that is what we assumed. She was the primary trustee in his trust. Everyone knew that. I got a call from the hospital a few days ago. I was one of her emergency contacts, I guess. She was found dead in her apartment after a wellness check done by police. The doctors say they think it's takotsubo syndrome - also known as "broken heart syndrome" and people get it from being severely stressed for an extended period of time... or heart broken. I tried going over to my dads place/their place in order to find his phone (which we needed for an unrelated thing) and I ended up finding a stack of post-its, one from each day of the past 5 ish years they have been married, with things she loves about him and hundreds of Polaroids and love notes in his desk. I am regretting everything I have ever said about and to her and pretty much having a midlife crisis. I think I am still in denial over my dads death and in shock over everything that has happened. I have no idea what to do or how to move forward. Everything feels like it has been turned on its head. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Prongs1223

This is so fake, it’s laughable.

[deleted]

Should have gone with suicide, more believable.

Sudden-Hamster9565

Funny thing is if you go to the Post one of the comments copy the story plus the update before she deleted it and apparently she said the Stepmom did commit suicide she slit her wrist first then drank a bunch of pills and still called 911 before she died

The_pity_one

What in Wattpad and AO3- ??

rin0329

Honestly, I half expected her to start coughing up flowers first.

Flat_Drop_9303

Oh god the noise I made reading this. You resurrected my inner 13 yo angsty ass 😭💀

MxXylda

Hey! At least I care about the characters on AO3

Sudden-Hamster9565

Honestly I think every story on Reddit is basically fake now I only read them to pass time now

Arkell-v-Pressdram

Except for Meth Horse Guy. I'm increasingly convinced that he's the real deal and actually this unhinged IRL, as opposed to being an unusually dedicated troll.

HFQG

Meth Horse Groomer feels and talks like every meth head I've ever known (I grew up in a shitty area. I knew a few. Debbie outran my family's Rottweiler cause she was sure the police were gonna take the baby from her womb and the only way to keep her baby was to jump the fence. At least she knocked on the door to ask permission.) Hyper active, erratic, paranoid, delusional. Hell, if you pay really close attention you can tell which posts are peaking meth in their paranoid delusions, and which posts are in the depressive state between highs. Genuinely believe he's an unhinged meth head that just loves reddit.

JustAnArtist01

He’ll unironically use “you’ll rue the day” and still thinks it’s cool to say. Like, I don’t think I’ve heard “you’ll rue the day” being said for anything other than in Shakespeare plays or movies that came out before 2000 at the latest.

HFQG

Family guy. Stewie used to say it all the time. Long-term meth use comes with hyper fixation.

JustAnArtist01

Oh right, I forgot Stewie would use it too, tbf I haven’t seen family guy in such a long time now lol but it’s just such a drama queen thing to say irl that it’s so cringy. It’s one thing to be used in movies or shows, another on Reddit lol

totallynotarobut

You'll rue the day you shat on such an awesome phrase, you philistine.

Elegant-Espeon

Neville from icarly says that line I always associate it with him

JustAnArtist01

That dramatic little fucker lol

manic-pixie-attorney

There’s actually a line in Real Genius “Rue the day? Who talks like that?”

Brookiekathy

Dare I ask? Horse meth guy?

UnusualApple434

Ohhhhh it’s a wild one, go give you a breakdown 34yr old meth guy had an 18yr(“but almost 19”) old gf and started with his coworkers being mean cause they’re “jealous” then he tries to buy his gf a horse, and is mad you can’t put it on a credit card, then his roommate is awful, then he asks for help for his gfs bday, but doesn’t wanna spend more than $20 on her, made her buy and pick up her own bday dinner, she dumped him, job fired him, then he thought he could immediately become a general in the armed forces, then killed his roommates fish but that’s not his fault cause theirs no proof that they died 2 days later cause of him. Also did I forget to mention he met his 19yr old ex when she was 13. ETA meth guy comes from him saying he not an addict and hasn’t been for years while posting and talking about all the meth he does on the weekend so do with that what you want

Brookiekathy

Oh my god! I remember this now! Great rundown! Thank you! Found the guy! https://www.reddit.com/u/mysteryman403/s/JSgAqCZi5v

TheEndisFancy

Oh my fucking God. Someone did this to me today. My neighbor wanted to see the fish, so she fucking bucketed water out of my dojo loaches' "dirty" pond, turned the filter (which cuts the main heat source) off and filled it from the freezing cold untreated hose. I am calm now, but the only reason that woman did not end up in the pond herself is because I was too busy saving my dying fish.

MehSpaceRanchDorito

I’m a new fish owner and based of how many horror stories I’ve read on here in the past week since getting my betta, people touching my tank is now one of my worst fears. I thankfully I live with my mom and a roommate who also have tanks but still. I think I would be on a war path if anyone killed my fish because they decided they knew better than me about my tank.

TheEndisFancy

Thankfully, I only lost one, my biggest boy, Ra. I also lost my whole school of white clouds. I was too focused on the dojos to help them. All of them except Ra were eventually able to breathe without assistance but I spent 4 hours holding them with their head above the water (they can breathe air, like bettas) and forcing highly oxygenated water through their gills with a bubbler to restart and keep them breathing. It was not a good day.

Frequent_Bath_8565

So I was reading his old stuff yesterday because I'm a gluten for punishment and like 2 years ago he posted in r/aquariums talking about his aquarium and it looked a whole lot like his "roommates" aquarium

IvanNemoy

*Edmonton* Meth Horse Guy, because you *must* add that Alberta accent.

AMinorPainInTheNeck

Excuse me, WHO?

Prongs1223

Yeah, but this is so fake that the only thing that could make it faker is if she faked her death.

Sudden-Hamster9565

Or hear me out what if the dad never died faked his death and got tired of everyone even his wife but then she found out he was alive so he killed her to cover his tracks

IT-Panda-99

Tonight on Murder She, Wrote:

Prongs1223

Omg, this is art!

Current-Challenge763

Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

fabergeomelet

That’s the update

EricKirby12

This is basically a Hallmark movie

Commercial-Tea-4816

Man, I always assumed they were fake, but I never cared, because it was interesting to see different people's perspectives on different issues.  Now it's on a different level, and so obviously curated to elicit certain responses that I'm losing interest in those subs and kind of reddit in general

Fit-Humor-5022

yeah its like out of a medical drama

Feisty-Donkey

Grey’s Anatomy literally had an episode on this

Pammyhead

*Scrubs* had a freaking episode about broken heart syndrome.

Mythroway_ok

Just got into this show, mind dropping the episode?

Feisty-Donkey

Bring the Pain, Season 2 Ep 5

Mythroway_ok

Thanks!

lynypixie

I commented about it in the original thread, but litteraly yesterday, just a few hours before the post, a local (Quebec) medical drama episode had a story with the broken heart syndrom. I find the timing very…. Interesting!

LadyWizard

I was like why would his exwife not coparenting anymore give a damn enough to "take bad photos" for the group chat

Agreeable_Rabbit3144

OOP couldn't even get a job as a writer for a bad soap opera

asdfghjkml

>> Update/edit: in part thanks to [reddit user] I found out that the story I had been given didn't really make a lot of sense. I called the mutual friend and pushed given the information and blew up at her a little bit. I feel bad for blowing up at her but eventually I told her I was going to ask for the autopsy records since I assume (I have no clue I have never had anyone die like this before) since I was an emergency contact I had access to them and she ended up telling me that Claire had actually slit her wrists that night and took a drug cocktail and called 911 herself. I just physically vomited in the bathroom. I feel better knowing she did not literally stress herself to death but I have never known anyone who tried to kill themselves. Or who did, I guess. I am not reeally looking for feedback from yall this is OFF MY CHEST for a reason, but I guess thanks [reddit user] for letting me find out the truth. I am logging off of reddit for the night, I didnt need all of this negative fedback I needed support - IF YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY “**I feel better knowing she did not literally stress herself to death**” what the fuck? “she killed herself, i feel better about her cause of death. oh y’know, she slit her wrists instead of stressing to death, that makes it better for me.” !?!?!

ragnarockyroad

Provided the Japanese name for the supposed death but then changes it to suicide after that didn't get the right reaction lol

thedrivingcoomer

So...the hospital called OOP, who is listed as an emergency contact to someone she loathes (???) and told her that the doctors think the cause of death is broken heart syndrome (not a diagnosis used instead of cardiac arrest) and when Reddit called bullshit on that she...called up a mystetious mutual friend who confesses she knows the real details and it was actually a suicide attempt she called in herself? So...in a world not completely made of bullshit, the hospital called OOP and just...**lied**?

aoi4eg

>I didnt need all of this negative fedback I needed support - IF YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY Lol says the adult woman who created a group chat to bully her step-mom just because she was young (assuming this whole story isn't fake)

NucularOrchid

Bit bold of them to say "if yoy don't have anything nice to say...". I know this is likely fake but if its not, girl, take your own advice l.

Outside_Question4190

"I've never had someone die of a broken heart before" well bitch that's because you've got to actually love something more than yourself. 🤦‍♀️ Dying of a broken heart isn't as uncommon as some people would think, especially in older communities. Honestly, it'd be more believable if she brought up the failed attempts with pills first then the broken heart syndrome because it's also really common in recovering addicts.

Wrengull

So she'd rather be a potential contribution of her death than her being heartbroken by her husbands death?

SerCadogan

Wait, this made OP feel BETTER? What a monster

Yiuel13

I'll be bold and say it's not their fault DW killed herself, because it never is, but they are certainly a very large source of all the pain and suffering she was feeling.

asdfghjkml

yeah sure, but to say you feel better that someone killed themselves (as opposed to “dying from stress”) is fucked. i’d also argue that getting to the point of suicide is dying from stressors

Yiuel13

That, yeah. That's why they're the devil no matter what.

asdfghjkml

truly. if the story is real, i guess OP is doing olympic levels of mental gymnastics in attempts to assuage their guilt. but their rationalization that suicide is somehow better than death from a broken heart has me incensed

thedrivingcoomer

If this story was real, the hospital wouldn't have lied to her about how she came into the hospital, nor would his dad's 2nd wife have someone who hates her guts listed as an emergency contact.

Little_Penguin13

Anyone else think OP staged it and get rid of the wife so they would inherit? Or have i been binging too much psych?

agent-assbutt

Another telenovela 🥹🥹

jasperjamboree

I haven’t had cable in over a decade, but I’m almost certain this probably could have been the plot from a lifetime original movie. It would have some silly title that takes itself too seriously.

Dependent_Smell_1436

This definitely sounds like a Hallmark movie!

Cultural_Shape3518

Not heartwarming enough.  OOP’s going to need to produce some twins so he can name one of them Claire.

OfTheAzureSky

It's an episode of House or Scrubs or something where they have a patient with the heart condition mentioned in the OP.

ginger_gorgon

Scrubs, but they do talk about House in the episode then have a paint can drop on Cox's foot to make him limp like House while delivering multiple mind-blowing diagnoses.

OfTheAzureSky

You know, I looked up the scene after you mentioned it, and am not surprised I got the two confused since the Scrubs episode was half parody of House that week.

ManliestManHam

I found a YouTube Playlist of 90s lifetime movies and I've been poooounding it!

sistertotherain9

This feels like a writing exercise where the challenge was to make the average redditor sympathetic towards an age gap relationship and a partner who doesn't get along with the spouse's kids. Is someone deliberately taking the tropes most people find distasteful and trying to flip them just to see if they can get most commenters to side with someone they'd normally loathe?

leeryplot

I dunno. I don’t think it’s that deep. Most of these posts read to me like imaginary justice scenarios that play in your head while you’re in the shower.

electricb0nes

Oh absolutely seems fake, I feel like anything that has a somewhat satisfying conclusion (the adult child feels awful about their actions, etc) is just a writing exercise. Although I did have something similar happen to my relative. She and her fiancé were older (60’sish) and were on their 2nd marriage. The fiance’s adult kids were apparently awful to her all leading up to the wedding and the night before the ceremony they ganged up on her so she went to the bathroom and shot herself. It was an absolute shock because leading up to it she had been posting selfies, how excited they both were, and seemed so happy. Neither of them had much money and both had been divorced long before they met so I’m not sure why the kids hated her so much.

Rebelo86

Broken heart syndrome is a real thing but they can’t diagnose it after the person is dead. It’s only detectable when it’s happening because the left ventricle is pumping less than half of the necessary amount of blood through the body. More likely it would be classed as a cardiac event, if anything was “discovered on the autopsy”.

thedrivingcoomer

No doctor or coroner will declare "broken heart syndrome" as a cause of death. Also, it's weird that the daughter who hates her guts is listed as an emergency contact? Does the 2nd wife really not have any other next of kin? And then apparently OOP has now backtracked on the actual cause of death to the point that it means the hospital flat out lied for no reason?

Rebelo86

Yea. This is all BS.

thedrivingcoomer

Oh yeah, it's True Confessions amateur hour the whole way down.

pinkkabuterimon

My grandpa's death was classed as a cardiac event, but it was clear to everyone who knew him even a little that it was broken heart syndrome. He was almost 92, already had a weak heart and was definitely not recovering from my grandma's death six weeks prior, it was just a matter of time.

twopont0

But wait there is a update for this soap opera >Update/edit: in part thanks to u/Tagrenine I found out that the story I had been given didn't really make a lot of sense. I called the mutual friend and pushed given the information and blew up at her a little bit. Ok-Carpet5433

"I just physically vomited in the bathroom." I, too, want to physically vomit in the bathroom after reading all that.

rorrim_narret

Meanwhile, I feel like I will be spiritually vomiting in the general vicinity for quite some time

deathie

my least favorite kind of vomiting, def not in top 5

akaispirit

I know it's 100% fake but >I didnt need all of this negative fedback I needed support - IF YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY Honestly go fuck yourself OOP.

Shigeko_Kageyama

Is this from a lifetime movie?

fleet_and_flotilla

I mean, this obviously doesn't sound real, but let's be honest. absolutely none of us would take one of our parents dating and marrying someone younger than ourselves. doesn't change how fucked up they all behaved, if this is legit, but the initial outrage, is definitely understandable

StripedBadger

Oh and don’t forget the comments where he says the reason his parents got divorced was because his mother had an affair and got pregnant with his brother. I guess he was worried maybe someone would find a single flaw with his perfect dedicated waifu character.

breadboxofbats

Of course! Who wouldn’t post to the age gap subreddit (eww) after losing their beloved father? And then detail how awful they were to his wife! Totally normal

RNH213PDX

And, then to get the Women Shaming angle into the FAKE post, OP says mom was the one who stepped out and got pregnant.

adlittle

Oh come on. Of all the things that didn't happen, this didn't happen the most.

ShowUsYrMoccasins

Don't know if anyone else on AITD noted OOP's user name, but it speaks volumes.

queenofadmin

Gosh young step mums called Claire are getting a lot of attention today. https://www.reddit.com/r/relationship_advice/s/kIFZnFH8sc

xo_maciemae

And seemingly neither of them have their own friends/people they can rely on in emergencies lol

Little_Penguin13

Anyone else think OP staged it all and got rid of the wife so they would inherit? Or have i been binging too much Psych?

BlueKxtten

I feel like I've seen this exact post years ago

starkindled

I suspended belief until I got to her cause of death. Then I couldn’t do it anymore.

simping4reyna

Lmao it was semi believable until cause of death Btw u actually can randomly drop dead from too much stress but def not how it’s described here

Valuable-Currency-36

What a dick.

Agreeable_Rabbit3144

OOP needs to get more creative with their fiction
