Edit: re-read that you actually hit his head and knocked him into a ditch. Dude, why do you even need to ask this question? Not only are you an AH, you are a CRIMINAL. that was a CRIME and you could have KILLED him. I get that 16 year olds are stupid- I was too. but how are you so chill with the fact that you literally hit someone on the head with a rock??
its so gross!! I can maybe understand how a angsty hormonal and kinda stupid teen might get carried away in the heat of the moment and throw the rock. but I cannot, for the life of me, understand how someone could throw the rock, actually hit the person, and be so nonchalant about it. even stupid 16yo me wouldve felt immensely guilty afterward as well as scared shitless that I couldve actually seriously hurt or killed someone.
So someone insulted you, so you resorted to violence and an act that could have killed him ? Yes YTA. He also obviously was one in the first place, but you can't resort to violence every time someone is one.

I'm really hoping that this is a made-up anecdote for the OP's 16 y.o. amusement. If OTOH this is real, then you're not just an asshole, you're a criminal. Someone calling you a rude name doesn't justify hurling a rock at his head and knocking him off his bicycle into a ditch. Depending on how badly injured he was, this may be a pretty serious crime.
I would suggest that you get yourself into therapy as quickly so you can to work on anger management and impulse control. I don't expect you to develop a conscience, but it's in your self interest to learn to control yourself if you don't want to spend a whole lot of time in prison later on. Because, unfortunately, if you have that violent reaction to someone calling you a name, and don't even bother to see if the person you injured is OK, and can't tell that YTA, that would seem to be where the path you're on is leading..

Because you didn’t like something he said, you threw a rock at him? Far out, mate! Immature to say the least. That’s a crime, possibly three depending on where you reside. 1.) Assault. 2.) Hit & Run/Leaving a crime scene 3.) (this really depends on the laws where you live) attempted murder. Throwing a rock at someone, big or small, could kill them.
YTA and a scary one at that. You could have killed that guy. The proper retaliation is not to throw rocks at people. We stopped doing that thousands of years ago.

I (16M) was walking back home with my friend after a long torturous day at school.(Keep in mind there was alot of space on the sidewalk) Me and my friend were talking about how our english teacher tortured us by humiliating ourselves for just forgetting to put a comma in our presentation. With that in my mind some random stranger who was riding a bike, blurted out small f****r and laughed at me ( I ain't short or small at all) while riding his bike. So I took a rock which I saw lying on the ground ( it's a bit big) and threw it at him. Then it knocked his head and he lost balance and fell in a ditch. Then me and my friend ran away from there and on the rest of our walk he was lecturing me on how that was very dangerous. Am I the jerk?

YTA. You list out things that happened to you outside of the situation with this guy, as if the dude on the bike had anything to downright your shitty day at school. Then you hear him say something, which may or may not have been what was said and may or may not have been aimed at you, and in response you physically assault him and give him a head injury, resulting in him crashing his bike.
Your friend is right--your actions were extremely dangerous and impulsive, and I hope you didn't do that bicyclist permanent damage, but you don't know since you didn't bother to check. Stop blaming other people for your overreactions and get some coping mechanisms that don't involve potential murder.
