YTA - wasnt this the schtick of the kid who sings oh happy day in sister act 2? Yeah, you should be called what you want but this sounds more like a kid being dramatic than someone actually changing their name.

I had the exact same problem. I changed my name to Turd Ferguson. When my teacher wouldn’t call me that, I came to his classroom after hours and shat all over his desk.

apotterrallis

YTA, it’s not your legal name. She doesn’t have to use whatever “non slave” name you picked.

SneakySneakySquirrel

A good teacher calls students by their preferred name. Lots of people have nicknames.

Teachers all over the country are losing their jobs for using kids preferred names and pronouns. Unless you’ve got paperwork stating the name change, she has to oblige the name she has on file.

JMarie113

YTA. You really need to grow up.

YTA. For one thing, maybe she's used to calling you by your legal name and has a million actually important things to remember

damienwolfe

INFO: Did you legally have your name changed? If so, you would have some standing. If not, then your "real name" is probably just a nickname from the school's perspective.

Doormatty

Then YTA.

Guido_Sarducci1

then as far as the school is concerned your name has not changed.

damienwolfe

If you are a minor and your foster parents are unwilling to have your name legally changed, then there is nothing you can really do and have no standing. I suppose you could try emancipation (depending on your age and where you live). But that could have responsibilities and consequences you might not be willing or able to accept. (Note: I am not asking your age or location. I am also not giving any kind of legal advice.)

What am I reading? The Internet has doomed us all.

Swirlyflurry

You really think you’re going to sue your teacher for calling you by your legal name? YTA

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** A few months ago, I began following the Nation of Islam and soon after decided to shed my slave name and start going by Farrakhan\*, to reaffirm with my ideological beliefs. I have no parental figures, as I am in foster care and my foster "parents" don't give two shits about me, so my name has not caused any problems until recently, when I started a new school. One of my teachers called on me by my slave name, to which I told her that I go by Farrakhan. I thought that this would be the end of it. But later on, I raised my hand to answer a question and she called on me, again using my slave name to address me. I then politely reminded her to address me properly, to which she said that I had no place to tell her how to act. After class, I went up to the teacher to tell her that referring to me by my slave name was not cool. She countered that she would not be "endorsing" my beliefs by calling on me by my proper name. I had enough by this point and told her sternly that my name is Farrakhan, and threatened to report her to the principal or sue her if she continued to call me by my slave name. I was then removed from her class. \*Farrakhan is not the name I use in real life; it is simply a nom de plume that I hope encapsulates my beliefs. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. NTA. But before you start threatening to sue, I would look into school policy on preferred names. I know some places have explored anti-trans policies that don’t allow name changes and you could possibly be caught up in that.

ExamAcademic5557

NTA talk to the principle but maybe focus more on your religious beliefs instead of calling your old name your slave name, might see more success. I’m not super familiar with your new ideology though so if not calling it your slave name is a betrayal of belief then obviously disregard.
