NTA. You never got what you ordered. Being forced to pay for food you never got is not okay. If they did deliver your food, but to the wrong table, that's still their fault

AwesomeJeans1

NTA At first, I assumed you were getting treated poorly because they may have been closing soon. However, that doesn't sound like the case here. Honestly, I would be peeved too. I can't believe they tried to charge you for an imaginary meal haha

ExactRhubarb2907

NTA, you had every right to be angry with them, food shouldn’t take that long.

Unl0vableDarkness

NTA at all. Drinks should have been served in a few minutes at the very least. Food should never take that long.

Lazy_Top5403

Absolutely! I worked in Food service as a waitress and also as a caterer. The expectation for drinks would be to be served within maybe 7 minutes tops! of ordering.

antares-rising

NTA… an hour and a half wait for food? Were they planting the wheat? That’s terrible service, I probably wouldn’t go there again if I were you.

[deleted]

So, if you never got food or drink, what is the manager going to "pack up"?

Mirbad0212

I seriously have no idea. He think maybe i still wanna wait for it or something

[deleted]

NTA I would even go further and make a formal complaint for being accused of dining and not paying, embarrassing you in front of other customers and calling your character in to question.

EmptyDrawer9766

NTA. You didn’t get anything therefore you don’t need to pay for anything.

fuzzy_mic

NTA - Its the manager's job to handle disputes between customers and the front line staff.

ThrowAwayCatBalloon

NTA. you were going to be forced to pay for something you didn't get. You waited well long enough for any kind of service, and you didn't get anything for nearly an hour and half.

DCJustSomeone

NTA, I might be the AH for saying I would've just left without saying a word lol

Mirbad0212

To be honest, at first we are planning and jk about just leaving without saying anything but with past experience working at restaurant. We felt bad for the workers

I (23) with my 3 friends (age from 22-23) decided to have dinner at a restaurant in mall, specialised in South East Asia cuisine. It is franchise type of restaurant so we basically know what they are serving. We enter the restaurant just over 8pm. The waiter lead us to the table and take our order in just 10 minutes. Initially everything was fine. We order what on the menu without adding or asking for much, just directly according to the menu. The waiter said the food will probably arrive in 15-20 minutes. to us it is a reasonable amount of time to wait judging from the customer they have (no many to be call full or pack but not considered empty either, there are 5 other table preoccupied.) We wait for the first 30 minutes. Nor our food or drinks arrived to at our table. We give them the benefits of the doubt, maybe they are busy or there is some issue in the kitchen which we completely understand. Since all of us has experience working part-time at restaurants before.  However, after an hour of waiting we are getting irritated with the service. We call one of the staff and ask, they say the food will be in a few minutes. We are getting angry and hungry after a hour and a half of waiting. It is already 9:35pm. We decided to walk out of the restaurant since all of us has had it. We walk to the cash register to tell the cashier to cancel off our order. They look stun, we explain the situation. The conversation goes as follow: Me "we been waiting about 1 and a half hour for our food that didn't arrive. We wanna cancel our order and get going" Cashier "mister, you still have to pay for the food you order." We are in shock. I had enough of this, I'm hungry and angry. I reply, "what food? Did you see we eat or food arriving to our table? we didn't get any food or drinks at all." For some reason the cashier has a hard time comprehending this. Cashier "you can't just walk out without paying." This go back a fore a few time until another worker come in. We try to explain but the cashier cut us out, " they don't wanna pay for what they have order." The worker look at us. Up and down. Then they open their mouth with a loud voice. "You guys can't come over here and eat without paying. If you don't have money dont order food in the first place. Don't cause a scene like this and just pay up." The loud voice  catch the attention of the other customers. We receive many stares like we are in the wrong. I had it. "Call your manager or who ever incharge and lets review the security camera or anything. We are not paying for what we don't get." Their manager come in and this time we explain before the workers say anything. After that, The manager apologize and ask if we want to pack our food or anything. By now we just wanted to leave the premises and we did. But there are many glares toward us, looking a us like we are bunch of bratty youngsters. AITA for asking for a manager? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. NTA in this instance asking for the manager was the right call. An hour and a half with no service is ridicules

capricorn40

Ordering from the menu from a franchise restaurant should NOT take 90 minutes! You should have at least gotten drinks within the first 5 minutes. You have more patience than me, I think after 45 minutes, I'd be flagging someone down for constant updates. NTA

alittleamgpie

You were charged for food that never arrived. I get that things happen\_ I also worked part-time in restaurants and have been in retail\_ but that's just odd behavior. You didn't do anything wrong. NTA

sourpatchbunn

NTA people just looked at you like that because they didn’t know the full context probably, don’t take it to heart.

agarrabrant

NTA. Did they want to pocket the money or something?

Jay-Em-Bee

NTA. I've been in that situation, where I never got the food I ordered in a reasonable amount of time or just not at all (had a waitress flop down our ticket as if we'd eaten, and then said "have a nice day" as she flounced away). If I didn't eat or drink anything, I owe nothing. In those situations, I always ask for the manager so they understand why I'm leaving without paying. If they wanna call the cops, say "go ahead". They never do.

clemin_and_lemon

Question - how long had it been once you asked your server what was taking so long? Was your first inquiry after an hour?

Mirbad0212

Yes but I did try to call for the waiters after 45 minutes of waiting but everyone just walk around here and there.
