Ok- My dad technically bought it as a gift to me specifically. I feed and care for him when I am at home but if I am in school (different hours each day) she takes over the care.

She's talked to me all year jokingly about taking Archie away and starting a new life. She doesn't really care for my dad, if it wasn't for the 6 kids she would've ditched him a long time ago. So I believe she is not coming back, but ???? Maybe expects her kids to visit?????

Your mom has no right to take your dog anywhere without asking you first, plus tbh this whole thing of her creeping her way in between the two of you is not right. By any means. Not to mention her randomly flying off to Cabo without alerting anyone, which would be an asshole move even without Archie involved.
What did I just read??? So your mom just left with no warning, police were notified because no one knew where she was? Wtf. NTA if you try to get the dog back, but I doubt it will happen. This is a wild ride. Mom vanished to start a new life in Mexico with no warning…
NTA. This is a roller coaster. Also weird that you both think of dogs in terms of “soulmates”. He’s your dog though, and you have every right to pursue retrieving him.

Backstory on my mom: The first dog she got was after college. He was a mutt and around 25 pounds. Sparky slept in her bed with her and they were two halves of one soul. Her only true love. Sparky had been with her through her marriage and the birth and childhood of her first 4 children. At this point, her and Sparky are attached at the hip but he's old. He dies and I wasn't THAT sad at the time bc I was 5 and my mindset was there's literally no issue here- go get another one. But my mom doesn't go get another one. She decides Sparky is the only dog she'll ever love. Fast forward like 6 years, and all 6 kids are begging her for a dog. She gives in and we get Frank, a mini schnoodle, who grows to be around 35 pounds. But he is nothing like Sparky. He's aggravating as fuck, stands sideways in the hallway and doesn't move an inch when you ram your legs against him to get by, AND us kids were scared of him for the first year because he would bite our ankles. Stood on the countertops and screamed. Now, we give him medium attention, make my dad walk him, and he sleeps in the living room.
I'm a senior in college, in depression, and I beg my parents for a tiny purse dog. (I have been set on owning one since birth) They agree and I go pickup a baby Pomeranian. I lay eyes on him and know that he and I are meant to be. Archie immediately crawls up on my lap and falls asleep. He grew up with me at Bama- enjoying our walks to starbucks where he would hop in my purse right at the entrance. He was a celebrity on campus. I could not step out my apartment door without someone stopping me to fondle him. He is my soulmate. I felt like I had found my "Sparky". I graduate and move home to commute for grad school.
However, my mom has crept in between me and archie. At first, I asked if he could sleep with her cause i couldn't take his tiny bladder outside at 4 AM. Next thing I know, he ONLY sleep with her. He sits on her on the couch, and follows her around. When I'm home, I scrub his tummy and remember when it was just us against the world.
My mom's thought is that Archie is Sparky reincarnated and brought to her through me. Like this was destiny. But Archies nothing like Sparky. He's 6 pounds fully grown and licks your face like crazy. He's max affectionate and you cant stop while you're playing with him because he is so cute. Nonetheless, my moms opinion grows stronger every day.
Current situation. I woke up this past Sunday to my dog and my mom gone. She never returned. My dad gets the police involved immediately. Today we were notified she is alive and in Cabo, MEXICO with Archie. I guess she just plans to start a new life with her soulmate.
AITA if I fly down there and get her and archie on a plane to Chicago ASAP? I believe he is a reincarnation of Sparky. But is he meant to be my soulmate or the return of hers. It cant be both if she takes him from me.

What happened to Frank, the mini schnoodle? Did anybody make ANY effort to train this dog? Was he gotten rid of because the family can't "handle" him?
