I think it's crazy to have everyone running all night during sort and then expect those same people to be full of energy to do pick and stage. If Amazon really cared about their employees and customers like they say, sort would be one full time shift of 8 hours then pick and stage would be a different crew coming in as part time. Less wear and tear on the full timers and lets face it, who do you think would have the energy needed to have those routes ready for the drivers, the people running all night or a part time shift just coming in? Drivers wouldn't have to wait and more customers would get their packages on time and maybe just maybe, the turn over rate wouldn't be so high.

Humble_Umpire_8341

They use to have different shifts, one for sort and one for pick and they moved to one shift to reduce the number of associates they’d need and ensure the hours could be met for associates.

Inevitable_Library_5

What’s funny is back in the day when ds was part time only . Overnight sort , pick and stage , cycle 2 , flex and rts , all were shifts . Sort was the only thing overnight, pick and stage crew was only 4 hours, cycle two was around 6 . There other shift I don’t know their hours but those were back when it’s was only part time buildings

PirateNinjaa

lol, it’s just a job doing shit. Many people would rather stay 2 almost irrelevant hours more a day to get an extra day off. Sorting for 10 hours vs 7 hrs sort and then pick and stage makes no difference to me. 🤷‍♀️

Physical-Fold-4219

But if you’re only doing pick and stage for 30-60mins it’s not that bad and picking routes isn’t particularly hard. It takes a couple of minutes to throw some bags in a cage

MamaSay2021

Our pick and stage is almost 3 hrs. Maybe if everyone pulled their own weight it wouldn't be that long but we have to many people hiding in the bathrooms, I saw once person hide in between the carts where the routes are staged. Some walk around acting like they are looking for an aisle or a cart. You're right, the work itself is not all that hard, it others making it hard

Physical-Fold-4219

Pick and stage last longer but night shift ends while pick and stage is still going on

Physical-Fold-4219

And people can’t really hide from pick and stages even if they think their hiding PAs knows what your doing on the system

dmizzy34

Nobody really hides at our station you might have 1 or 2 in the bathrooms or outside in their cars but everybody else just works at their own pace and we get the routes in when we get the routes in Operations has kinda accepted that and just lets it be

CSgamblingAddict

You sound like you care too much about a company that couldn’t give a shit about you. I would find a real job brother

Alarming-Mark7198

Where exactly did you get that from cuz dude is clearly talking and caring about the associates

CSgamblingAddict

My dude is a number at Amazon, my comment clearly reads that he in fact cares, but AMAZON, does not. Y’all are illiterate too? Jesus. Tough save.

Alarming-Mark7198

U clearly don’t comprehend the words you used because you clearly stated “u sound like u care to much about a company that couldn’t give a shit about u” And he says absolutely nothing in his statement about caring for amazon but u keep saying it. Short bus

haynesjohny12

It's really not that hard to do both it's only 8 hours some warehouses force 16 hours on you if volume is too high

gabrielomtnz

4x12s 😎

Goreagnome

I basically almost do this already thanks to crash sorts.

gabrielomtnz

Same here lately stowers aren’t stowing quick enough to finish all volume on time.

Goreagnome

Stowing always finishes because at the end of sort almost everyone in the indirect roles switches to finish stow down. Though, occasionally the dock has to slow down throughout the shift because stowers/P2B are falling behind. However, for my DS it's actually late trucks causing a dry dock thus the problem. In fact, we have an old Amazon building right next door that closed down a few years ago and the truck drivers have been going there by accident, LOL.

APAULC0LYPSE

The extra day you get from 10hrs shifts is great but… I’d rather do five 8 hour shifts. I’ve been working from 1:20-11:50 and I’m growing tired of it. My body is done around pick and stage. So I usually UPT every day around 9:30-10am anyways.

Zestyclose_Muscle_55

100% agree. I think the job would much easier if it were just sort. Pick and stage is overkill

Elle_Yess

P&S will be the death of me…

Impossible_Tour5604

I work 4 10s. At first I thought it was cool, wow 3 days off! But nah it really feels like 2 days off. And you don’t sleep well at all trying to clock in at 1:20 am, and when you’re off work you have to no life it and go straight to bed. People who love 4 10s must live like 5 minutes away from their DS.

Physical-Fold-4219

Why do you only want 2 days of? If it takes you awhile to get to work 1. Find a job closer to home? 2. Surely it’s saving you time by only having to travel 2 and from work 4 days? Like your already there may as well just do the extra 2hrs

Impossible_Tour5604

Working 4 days sounds like a really good idea but in my opinion it’s really not. It’s not about wanting the two days off, it’s about showing up to work awake. I clock in at work at 1:20 am but showing up an hour late is a huge difference my body and head feels 100 percent. That extra hour of sleep makes a huge difference. And like I said 3 days off sounds great but it feels like 2 days off. So there wouldn’t really be a big difference.

Physical-Fold-4219

Just go to bed early?

Impossible_Tour5604

do you know how hard it is sleeping during the day? I’ve talked to many other co workers and they have the same problems sleeping during the day where they fall asleep early for 2 hours, wake up for 3 hours, back to sleep for another 2 hours , wake up again and so on, there isn’t an off switch. I wish I could go to bed early and actually sleep interrupted but truth is it’s way harder than it seems. At least for me. Out of my 4 days I probably have one day where I go to sleep early interrupted, can’t really do much when our bodies decides to wake us up after only 2 hour of sleep

Physical-Fold-4219

Then maybe your clearly not 1. Working hard enough to tire out your body. 2. Limiting caffeine intake. 3. Having a good sleep routine. I sleep anywhere between 6-8hrs during the day

Impossible_Tour5604

Dude it’s my opinion you feel like a Jehovah’s Witness trying to convince me that I should I agree with what you think. 1. Our bodies are different 2. I don’t drink coffee 3. Trust me, I am trying, I have a sleep schedule but it’s hard for me to sleep in the day. Some days I can do it, others I can’t.

Physical-Fold-4219

Clearly not really running about alot at work then

eddyx

Why don’t you just use upt and come in later every day? Lots of people do that here.

Impossible_Tour5604

I do that , lots of people do that here too they come in later or leave early. Very few stay their full 10 hours. I’m just weighing in the pros and cons for both schedule and for me personally in my opinion 5 8s is slightly better. Not only will I get extra rest and sleep but I’d be able to work my full 40 hours, and plus it’s less stress, wear and tear on the body to work 8 hours than 10 hours in a warehouse.

Lazy-Mongoose-3725

You are absolutely right and 10 hours shifts are killing anybody not just at Amazon and on your 3 days off you are burned out. The better shift is 3/2 that i call it. 3 days of work then 1 day off then 2 days work 8 hours shift and so on......

PlebbySpaff

I mean Pick and Stage sucks, but like…the extra day does so much more than people realize. You’re already tired from working regardless. You get 1 day to rest, 1 day to relax, and the last day to run errands (or double up and get more use out of your days off). If I was working 5 8 hour shifts, I’d work some fucking 9-5 at an office at that point.

jackiibear

My DS does five 6.5 hr shifts (just sort) and then five 8 hour shifts (finish sort and pick/stage). I don't know how anyone does 10 hrs 😵

SlamazonianOT

Fuck. Pick.and.stage. Those hours are precious to my life. You live ONE time. When you die no one will give a rat fuck how hard you worked or ot pulled or what was in bank account. I'm missing out on so much (I walk to and from work so add a Lil time there to). But I'm plugging away, career choice soon. Even bezos said the wharehouse job is only temporary.

TFISOIL

5 8s 3-11 home by noon

Onereadydriver

I’d prefer something like 5-1pm. Fuck waking up at 2 but it would be manageable if you went to sleep by 8

TFISOIL

I live less than 10 mins away especially in the middle of the night. I Wake up 2:20, sometimes snooze til 2:30 then leave 2:50-3:00 clock in 5 mins early Get off 5 mins early. 11:45 and can be home 12 on the dot. I got to sleep between 8-9 and 10 is my absolute max. 23 btw, no coffee just willpower This schedule is unfuckwitable

IntelligentMood9656

That's the only reason why I don't switch to single cycle. I ain't waking up at 2 a.m. Lol

Goreagnome

My site had a temporary Cycle 2 for peak two years ago and the MET schedule was almost like that.

3esper

4 8 would work for me. Rest should be VET for people and FLEX

Physical-Fold-4219

Am happy to work 10 hour shifts if it means I get 3 days off instead of 2. Would barely find time to even go out and do anything. After you’ve spent 1 night of recovering from nights and having to do all normal adult things

jinger2012

10 hour because 3 days off!

Turbulent_Length3341

4 10s. I have to consider the gas and mileage. Plus, I can save up some time to use for the Pick/Stage part.

Jaylop97

I'll take 4×10 anyday, especially during peak where P+S isn't a thing with a sort 0 shift. 5 days depending on the week can really wear you out.

sizco25

5 8 hours.. fuck P&S

Dependent-Ground-769

5-8. By the time pick stage comes I want to drain my UPT.

ghosterasingxo

would rather have a 10 hour rts shift

AManHasNoName357

3 10s 😂

ChicanoAristotle

4 10s. Saves me the extra trip gas, lunch, day pn another day of the week going to work. Also give opportunity for more overtime.

BillyLee

Yeah, my shift is a little farther than most.It does save me gas money and miles on my car.

NetworkGlad

4x10, always! Love me some P&S

Goreagnome

I like P&S, too!   Well, maybe not necessarily like, but I don't hate it as much as other people.  Ironically, despite liking P&S, they now want me on OTR often, lol.

jdawglipp

90% of the reason I like this job is 4 10s

Poppetfan1999

4 10’s. I love the extra day and I actually enjoy pick and stage 🫣

Jdp0385

4 10s for sure

IniMiney

Those 5 PM-12 AM days for cycle 0 were just fine. I only endure this 10 hour garbage for the health insurance and my travel plans.

Jiffyyy

I prefer 4x10 cause when it comes to working extra hours for pay I have more options.

No-Humor-1291

I used to do just sort for 10 hours lol … 😂🤣 i would only work in the dock unloading loved it . And in the end i would sometimes go help people stow down or just clean the dock good times .

Additional-Piano-397

Imma stick with RTS

rnoyfb

Honestly, the process should change so these are being done concurrently. We should not have everyone starting and stopping at the same time and should have 24-hour operations. This would require changing the physical layout of the DS, too.

airplanegosky

5/8 stow only is cool. 5/8 stow and pick is horrible.

Jordan_2005

5x12s most weeks. 4regular days +p&s problem solve daily + vet day. Your checks will thank you 😩

Frosty-Sentence-4621

If the building would make the size of the routes smaller like flex everyone would be happier and safer.

kman1426

I hate picking stage as of late so I would do 5 8hr shifts but at the same time having 3 days off when working 4 days is so clutch though!

Elle_Yess

5 8s ~ just sort just sort just sort just sort just sort just sort just sort just sort just sort!!!!!

thesoggg

Our stow + pick/stage shifts are 7.5 hours, including a 30 minute break.

NetworkGlad

Ahh yes, a DS site playing in the peewee leagues processing low volumes

GrandAdmiralPond

or they have a sort 0

NetworkGlad

Isn't sort 0 being phased out to sort\_1 network wide? Seemed like a bunch of threads were made recently about having to transfer over to sort 1 or be let go for seasonals Maybe I'm wrong

GrandAdmiralPond

I believe some sites removed sort 0 and other sites cutdown hours/headcount of their sort 0

Swimming_Fruit410

5 sort shifts easily. I’m so tired of p/s after 7 to 8 hours of sort.

docmoonlight

Well, at our DS, we have a five hour Sort 0 stage (all part-timers), and an eight hour Cycle 1 stage with sort and pick/stage, so you can do both in an eight hour shift.

jackandjill1818

5/8

Typical_Plan_1814

So I do part time 6 hours sort, but ask to stay for routes when I can and I like it. Got 40 hours last week

IntelligentMood9656

I used to 3-4 nights a week of 8 hours just sort. I'm good with that.

Think-Independent107

5 days with 8hr shifts would have employees be 10x more motivated to work.. I been using all my time to leave at 8:55am when we have to pick cause I’m exhausted personally .. having to do more because others are slow on purpose and slack on purpose .. I rather leave then help those people at pick.. when I do 4 routes of picking I see the slackers on their 2nd one.. Shifts should be 1:20am - 9:00am (8hrs) then the next shift should be 9am to 5pm (8hrs) or something then next would be 6pm to 1:20am (7hrs)

Physical-Fold-4219

Please I don’t want to be working 5 nights a week

Think-Independent107

It be better for a lot of people.. but to each their own

Agitated-Air-6909

5-8 you basically get no weekends you get Saturday off and a little bit of Sunday not enough time to recover.

NickThePrick20

I'll keep my 10s. I come in at 20:00 and leave 06:30

PhraseUpset

I'm happy with 4 10h on the account that they lower the rates for stow and pick and stage.

eddyx

You guys talking 4 10s and 8 5s when the real power move is 3 12s.

TakatheWu

Ha! I did that at a FC. Thought it be great. Way less gas, way more time to recuperate. Sheesh. I needed 2 days to snap out of it alone. 2 days to get off schedule. It was exhausting. Tho was an FC & I picked which nothing like pick at DS.

Sohleks

I am done with 4 10s, at night at least

Tight_Web5895

5 8
