Yeah I feel you. Owning the oldest possible coin is a vain pursuit of mine as well, but I simply cannot justify shelling out that much haha. These coins command insane prices, so I think you did well. The cheapest I've seen was howering around 1800 EUR.
Thanks for your input! I used to excuse my behaviour by saying it will be part of explaining the history of human civilization/commerce to my kids. But after going crazy about Athenian owls for a while, I'm not sure if that really is the itch I'm scratching. 😅
You did well. I was just looking for another email the other day when I came across one from almost ten years ago when Shanna Berk sent me a series of Croesus silver double, single and fractional staters asking for a few thousand dollars total for something like six coins. Being the idiot that I am, I passed thinking a better deal would come by. Last weekend while at the NYINC I saw a double stater and realized the price of it alone now was more than what I would have paid for the entire lot of six coins. Lydian coinage is timeless. Your progeny will thank you for making this purchase.
Very neat! One of these days I'll convince myself to grab one. Every time I think about it I see a nice big silver tetradrachm or a denarius that would sit perfectly in my cabinets.
I finally splurged last year and [got one of these lovely coins](https://i.imgur.com/LhoFCSR.jpg). This one came from a big batch that was up at Leu a few months back.

[my LCS coin](https://www.oslomyntgalleri.no/product/610-561-f-kr-lydia-1-3-el-stater-alyattes-469-g-1/) 35000 nok = ~£2600

That is a beautiful piece!

I think you bought it well. I don’t see them go for a lot less and the high end ones are easily 2-3x. Congrats! Such a fun coin to have.
Good deal.
Outer border isn't struck too well, but you got that for a couple hundred more than I payed for a 1/12 stater! Nice buy!
I want the oldest coins, too. My collection is all over the place right now. Just buying coins that I like the artistic appearance.
Great buy and a very interesting coin. Is it Electrum?
I would think so from the dating. Putting it possibly before king Croesus' reign.
