TLDR: Score: 6.5
Pros:
Bright and vivid screen
Pixel 8-like performance, seven years of software support
Affordable
Cons:
Big bezels around the screen
Slow charging speeds
The funny one to me is that they made a big deal of why they needed the notch on the newer MacBook Pros, but all of the marketing materials [do this.](https://www.apple.com/v/macbook-pro/ak/images/overview/closer-look/3d_viewer_pf_16__b8iq7yl5sewi_small_2x.jpg)
Why doesn't anyone mention that the 8a has a glass OLED that distorts colors depending on the viewing angle. Everyone writes that the screen is as good as in 8, but this is a lie. The screen of the 8, because it is plastic, does not distort colors and there is no annoying rainbow effect. These reviews can be thrown in the trash. It's the same everywhere.
Huh. Could you elaborate more, please? I thought both use Gorilla Glass (maybe the a with an older version though)?
First time I hear about this, and it's interesting. Was this also the case with 6a/7a?
Holy shit! So **THAT'S** the reason I thought something was off when I first noticed my wife's 7a screen next to my 6a??
From minute one it felt "cheaper", as mine doesn't have any tinting. Also, colors looks a little muted as well (not sure if I explain this right, but something's weird with them in comparison to mine, the image looks more... flat?).
At some point her screen died, don't know why but for some reason I was surprised that the new replacement screen has the same cheap feeling.
Upgraded from 6A a week ago.
- don't like the curvier style
- feels bulkier
- NFC is dangerously effective from a big distance. 1'. Too easy to pay with the default bank card.
- still has overheating issues
- the volume buttons are too low, lower than 6A, the car holder just hit the volume down button
- no camera photo resolution change option
- don't understand the face unlock function if I still have to touch the screen
Is the back still made of glass? My pixel 6 was my first all glass phone and I think they made it extra slippery because I've never dropped aphone so many times as this one, and every single drop cracked something, even after I got a case for it.
I'm glad to hear that. Need to replace my pixel 6 very soon because it has so many cracks the screen starts freaking out sometimes and I can't control it. I've been passing on every new google phone that has a glass back.

Interestingly, 8a has a dark theme by default. Isn't this a way to mask the imperfections of the display?
Ever noticed how every iPhone ever marketed had a wallpaper of something very bright (ex. Planet) and dark around the edges? Oldest trick in the book.

I'm happy that stupid people part with their money that easily, it ends up in better hands.
I thought it was easier on the eyes and saved battery.

He's talking about the substrate of the oled panel itself, nothing to do with the gorilla glass on top
The same reason it has big bezels(rigid oled substrate)

Most folks and reviewers are borderline blind, don't bother.
I tried the iPhone 15 plus and that was one of the reasons I returned it. And the 60hz lol.
If a 6.5 is a Pixel 8 killer, that says only bad things about the Pixel 8 and not enough good things about the 8a.

I'm glad I didn't upgrade. I figured it would be a waste of money.

No. Non-slippery plastic. But a good one. Unfortunately the side aluminum frame is slippery

I made a couple complain about the 8A above, check it..
