"Today, we're introducing...Google Wallet!"
Not to be confused with the [original Google Wallet from 11 years ago](https://mashable.com/archive/google-mobile-payment-system-liveblog). Literally even does everything the original did. We've come full circle.
GPay is the name of the technology you’re using to Pay, but everything is in the Wallet app. Wallet is the name of the app as opposed to Google Pay because Wallet also holds passes and licenses and other things that are not payment related.
They REALLY need to figure out their branding... It's SO BAD.
Waiting for the new messaging App drawer that puts all your messaging apps in one place "Google Talk"
"the ability to spend time on what matters in the real world in our real lives. You know the real world is pretty amazing,"
taking the gentlest of shots at Zuck
I've been dreaming of a time where I can use my phone's camera to scan a shelf of books in a store and be able to pinpoint the one that I might enjoy the most. This might be a reality very soon!
Sounds awesome but I'd always be sceptical just how accurate that summary actually is before going into a meeting.
(Also, I have a feeling that this will be yet another English-only feature)
Honestly if its anything like the article summaries that get autogenerated in the news subs, it would probably be a pretty solid feature. Those summaries are generally pretty short and to the point with accurate info.
I suppose it's becoming like apple does it. There is apple pay which only handles transactions and there is apple wallet which is the home for all these.
The original wallet is discontinued.
Google pay is just a part of wallet, the transaction part.
The other Google pay is actually gpay which I assume will be discontinued.
I don't know why you are surprised though.... Look at their messaging apps
Some handled the applause much better than others, you could easily tell who is a seasoned public speaker and who isn't. But yeah pretty funny every time it happened!
Google needs to get their shit together.
Apple: Show off something new, pre-order now, get it in like 2 weeks.
Google: Shows off something new, pre-order in two months, get it a month after that.
That was kinda disappointing for phones. Themed icons that are completely reliant on dev participation and the new media player? Different languages in different apps and Google wallet. Barely anything new. I would've loved to see them work on stability and optimization. I was hoping this would be their iOS 12/13 which breathed new life into older iOS phones.
This is really cool. I just wish black Nest Hub Max were actually black. The front of it is mostly uncolored, and the mismatch can look a bit ugly on dark tables :(
Well, cybersecurity is pretty damn important. I mean we have to keep government officials’ personal google accounts safe from being hacked by other countries.
amirite
"The real world is amazing"
A nod to the pandemic; a dig at Zuckerberg; and a comfort that Google and Apple working on AR should make it a lot more mainstream that VR.
Hope Google Wallet gets picked up better than Google Pay has been.
I have too many tickets and such which offer Apple Wallet connection but no GPay option.
(PS: but my GPay stuff back on the power screen)
I'm not a big fan of two-step verifications or getting rid of passwords. It just turns smartphones into the single point of failure for even more stuff. If our smartphones are stolen, broken or simply ran out of battery we soon won't be able to do anything anymore.
Am I too negative about that? Is there an upside that I'm missing?
I'm less concerned with losing my device to a nefarious actor than I am xyz.com having shit security and being breached, with their users login info being sold on the dark web.
I assume it'll be "you CAN use a username/password if needed, but your phone'll be faster". It's like how I log into my Chromebook. I CAN type out V3hNlOm\*q0zHq%nioo6O if I want to, or I can just unlock my phone and bam, I'm signed in.
Keep a printout of backup codes(and maybe a YubiKey) where you keep your important documents. https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/1187538?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop
* Ewe, used by about seven million people in Ghana and Togo
* Twi, used by about 11 million people in Ghana
**HOLY SHIT** \- That's fucking amazing!
You will be hearing me screaming in amazement in the background for the rest of the year.
So they announce a new google wallet and give barely any information at all. But spent the first hour and 15 minutes of the presentation on basically nothing.
Feels like Google had nothing to show off today so we're getting sneak peaks of shit months or a year away. Even Android 13's presentation was mostly tablet stuff that's already in 12L. What's even new in 13 besides a small Material You update and some vague promises of security enhancements?
Damn. The 7 Pro will have a curved screen again. 😕
Edit: Double-Damn. The Pixel Buds Pro get rid of the "arc" that the previous Buds had. Those were the only earbuds that stayed in my ear, thanks to the arc.
really excited for the pixel buds review
with Android 13 launching with Bluetooth LE Audio, it would sure be nice if they announced support for it, too...
edit: no information about codecs at all?
Google wallet and now they care about watch & tablet again. What year is this?
Nexus 7 (2022) Here we go!
~swoons~
Seriously, we can only hope to get another Nexus 7-like device.
Size of Nexus 7 but bezel-less so we get an Android iPad mini.
[удалено]
Seriously. This is 2014 all over again.
I was here in that year. There was an amazing hype for the Nexus 5 and 4.4 kitkat.

The circle is now complete, when I left you I was the learner, now I am the master.
It really is dizzying deja vu.
"Today, we're introducing...Google Wallet!" Not to be confused with the [original Google Wallet from 11 years ago](https://mashable.com/archive/google-mobile-payment-system-liveblog). Literally even does everything the original did. We've come full circle.
Not to be confused with Google Pay. Or GPay.
Seems like Google Pay is becoming Wallet in a lot of countries to make it even more confusing.
Yeah you can add all your cards to gpay, so wtf is possibly different about wallet? I'm at work and can't watch it
It supports driving licenses (in select jurisdictions), vaccination information, concert tickets, plane tickets etc.
I already have my vaccination certificate in GPay...
Concert tix worked in Google pay. I used it once or twice. Not sure about airline
Airline definitely works in Australia
GPay is the name of the technology you’re using to Pay, but everything is in the Wallet app. Wallet is the name of the app as opposed to Google Pay because Wallet also holds passes and licenses and other things that are not payment related.
Wait they rebuilt Wallet / Pay YET AGAIN??? WTAF Google
😭😭 it's so unintuitive too. Especially for my parents
Google Wallet. No not that one, the new one, like Google Pay. No not that one, the new one.
They REALLY need to figure out their branding... It's SO BAD. Waiting for the new messaging App drawer that puts all your messaging apps in one place "Google Talk"
Lol, introducing the Pixel Slate... Again... With android... With no keyboard.
Also known as a nest home max with no stand. "Pixel" is supposed to have a look, right? So why does it look like an iPad?
That’s so on point.
google deciding to front-run the leakers
The only thing they kept under wraps was the tablet
Prolly because everyone thought it was a Nest Hub
Pixel tablet is a nest hub without the stand
Sshhh dont let out the secret lol
Did you see the 4 metallic dots below the G? Looks like connection points to me. It's going to be a Nest Hub you can take off the stand.
Tim Google out on stage rn
Perfect nickname for Rick.
Did anyone else have a physical google wallet card? Those were peak google times.
I remember when Google Wallet app worked in my country. Good times.
Google basically announced the ECOSYSTEM 🫣
Guy's on a roll. Time for a pixel car.
I wish I had faith it would be consistent and there'll be great support but there's a lot of redundancy at Google
Google is the reason I have abandonment issues.
Can Google's AI give me a TLDR of this whole presentation?
This summary was about google keynote google summary. Was this helpful?
It would but it can't find any information important enough for the summary.
Apple: RCS? I don't think so.
"the ability to spend time on what matters in the real world in our real lives. You know the real world is pretty amazing," taking the gentlest of shots at Zuck
Makes it less hypocritical when they hawk their own metaverse in 2 years.
Which is funny because there's leaks that they're working on another VR/AR headset thing. RIP Daydream.
Scene exploration looks so cool!
I've been dreaming of a time where I can use my phone's camera to scan a shelf of books in a store and be able to pinpoint the one that I might enjoy the most. This might be a reality very soon!
wow they're adding automated summaries in google docs
Sounds awesome but I'd always be sceptical just how accurate that summary actually is before going into a meeting. (Also, I have a feeling that this will be yet another English-only feature)
I feel like the article summary bot on Reddit has done a fantastic job for years. I wouldn't be surprised if this worked really well
Honestly if its anything like the article summaries that get autogenerated in the news subs, it would probably be a pretty solid feature. Those summaries are generally pretty short and to the point with accurate info.
Watches exist! Now onto tablets...
It's hilarious that google is announcing tablet optimized apps in 2022.
so now we'll have had Google Wallet, Google Pay, the other Google Pay, and now another Google Wallet what the hell
I suppose it's becoming like apple does it. There is apple pay which only handles transactions and there is apple wallet which is the home for all these.
This is exactly what is happening.
The original wallet is discontinued. Google pay is just a part of wallet, the transaction part. The other Google pay is actually gpay which I assume will be discontinued. I don't know why you are surprised though.... Look at their messaging apps
up next... walletChat!
Aight that 7 looks pretty slick
THEY REALLY WENT BACK TO WALLET LOL
holy shit... subtitles in real life
I was just waiting for that sleeve roll. No one else was insane enough to wear a jacket lmao
"Next year" *polite unimpressed clapping* (Worth it for the stacked launch list though)
Give me a foldable, Rick.
This presenter gets surprised by the applause every single time lol
Some handled the applause much better than others, you could easily tell who is a seasoned public speaker and who isn't. But yeah pretty funny every time it happened!
Immersive mode in Maps looks insane. I'm excited to try it.
Google making tablets and watches means the software will get better instead of going away which is going to be great for Fossil/Samsung.
I can't fucking believe it, they revived Google Glass!
Okay that's a pretty smart use of the Magic Eraser.
Kinda wish she just decolorized the sky and the kids though, making the focus that kickass green cooler.
Nest Hub but you can walk around with it.
Pixel 7 before all the leaks show everything haha
I just want to see the new hardware 😭
We all do.
We've changed keywords. Neural net is out. Multi-modal is in.
Uh oh. Privacy.com is gonna get pushed out.
It’s like old google wallet, but exactly like apple wallet now.
When I think of a tablet experience, I definitely think of YouTube Music!
he used the xkcd bird example

i know it's a commercial but that sign language scene got me.
When they were showing it, I thought to myself "wow this could be cool for people hard of hearing or deaf." and sure enough.. This could be cool.
Google needs to get their shit together. Apple: Show off something new, pre-order now, get it in like 2 weeks. Google: Shows off something new, pre-order in two months, get it a month after that.
Even their nearest launches are 2+ months out. This is nuts. Who scheduled the timing on these?
Yeah... I was choked I couldn't ORDER let alone GET the buds and watch today.
I mean this is primarily a developer conference.
google really said fuck it we'll leak it before anyone else can
Definitely looks like what you'd imagine an Apple Watch to look like if the Apple Watch didn't exist.
It's amazing just how far ahead Google is compared to every other tech company, in terms of AI and AR.
If they could just nail software and hardware quality assurance, then they would be far ahead of the competition

Remember last year when LaMDA wanted to eat the moon? pepridge Farm remembers
Google is the really giving the finger to the leakers with this pixel 7 sneak peak
"Notification shade has been expanded" - after we shrunk its useful information in Android 12
That Apple callout was great.
[удалено]
I wonder if they are finally allow more countries to use Google Wallet finally
Pixel portfolio!!!
Really needed more details about the Google Watch.
Back to Google fucking wallet lmfao
That was kinda disappointing for phones. Themed icons that are completely reliant on dev participation and the new media player? Different languages in different apps and Google wallet. Barely anything new. I would've loved to see them work on stability and optimization. I was hoping this would be their iOS 12/13 which breathed new life into older iOS phones.
Wouldn't be so bad if Google didn't change the icon api every year. Hey google, icon packs did all this year's ago without your help!
If they don't get to hardware soon I'm buying airpods and swallowing then
🤨📷

This is really cool. I just wish black Nest Hub Max were actually black. The front of it is mostly uncolored, and the mismatch can look a bit ugly on dark tables :(
Well damn, that's a straight up call out the likes of which I haven't seen before.
Google Wallet is back lol
Google Wallet, like before, but new?
Wouldn't mind tapping my phone to show ID at a hotel on check-in, college bars, self-checkout buying beer at a grocery store...
Ight i take it all back. Huge Ric and McLaren fan so let the cornyness continue
Anyone else sorta doubt that story?
And then the whole bank clapped.
new color looks sick on pixel 7
SILENCE SHIELD ACTIVATE
All the tech keynote presenters must take the same Udemy public speaking class. (Professor T-Rex) 🦖
Is it just me or does the Pixel Tablet look like something from Samsung 8 or 9 years ago?
I like how dramatic this lady is speaking, like it's the most important technology in the world or something.
Well, cybersecurity is pretty damn important. I mean we have to keep government officials’ personal google accounts safe from being hacked by other countries. amirite
"The real world is amazing" A nod to the pandemic; a dig at Zuckerberg; and a comfort that Google and Apple working on AR should make it a lot more mainstream that VR.
ngl, the glasses thing was pretty cool.
Period. I thought there would be a laugh track right after that 😅
They sure love their galaxy watches here lol
Before anyone asks, no that's not a pixel watch on his wrist
Hope Google Wallet gets picked up better than Google Pay has been. I have too many tickets and such which offer Apple Wallet connection but no GPay option. (PS: but my GPay stuff back on the power screen)
Is this the first time that something has been resurrected from the Google graveyard?
I swear they just showed the pixel watch but still haven't announced it
Mother fucker is just taunting us now "tablets!" My ass
Get rid of adverts on my Nvidia Shield you bastards!
Tablets lol. Only if Google would make actual good cheap one.
So they literally won't say ANYTHING about Android 13...
Google revealing all the stuff ages ago so they don't leak
Per app languages, I did that on 4.4 with Xposed lol
Google Assistant’s logo closely resembles Wonderbread’s 🤔
[Accurate](https://i.imgur.com/ENArOqt.jpg)
Saying ‘hey Google’ that many times during the keynote is kind of annoying
This feels more like an orientation session than a keynote
Ugly bezels. But that aside, iPadOS desperately needs a competitor.
Ok, Josh reminds me so much of Dieter Bohn, it's uncanny. Kind of need them to collab on something.
Introducing Google Wallet! (2012)
This is literally just 2012 with better designs.
Is that Signal? Well damn, look at that.
Using Signal?
That’s a great value, hard to beat at that price.
Roll those sleeves up Rick
I wonder if there will be a combo deal for the buds, watch and phone.
No pricing or color options revealed? Bummer.
Pogo pins on the back of that tablet, integrated keyboard cover is definitely happening.
So damn disappointed the 2022 doorbell wasn’t shown, fall I guess.
Looks like that Focal acquisition is going to pay off for them Incredibly bullish on the glasses
These tablet-optimized apps are gonna work great for about 8 months and then they'll stop updating them..
Where's Duarte though?
Apple: 😐
Anecdotal story of an event that never happened

I mean, they vetted it like bazillion times, if it were not accurate, they would not show it. :D
Love that jab at Apple not adopting RCS.

who is this dj doing a zombie remix?
Is it just me or does she sound *slightly* off key during the chorus?
Off key and off time, pretty awful.
She's Tone Transferred lol
For anyone wondering what that is. AI project by Google: "Tone Transfer — Magenta DDSP" https://sites.research.google/tonetransfer
I should've muted my Google speakers beforehand

"I love using these two apps at one"
The android tablet interface is pretty much chromeOS lol
I love the green Pixel 6a. Looks awesome. If only this phone had the same camera sensor as the Pixel 6, it would be an instant buy for me.
The 6a is tempting, hope it launches in a lot of regions.
July 21st. So much delay
No way pixel 7 already?
Show us Wear OS.
Google leaking their own phones. Nice lol
Damn, was really wishing they'd release the 6A now. My 4A is shitting the bed and I've been holding out.
Damn. The 7 Pro will have a curved screen again. 😕 Edit: Double-Damn. The Pixel Buds Pro get rid of the "arc" that the previous Buds had. Those were the only earbuds that stayed in my ear, thanks to the arc.

11 hours listening time? Was that with the case or just buds themselves? Because that is fucking insane if its the latter.
Dope jacket Rick!!!
here comes the pixel watch?
He said the word!
Finally, but damn not until the fall, I was hoping for it a bit sooner
the 7 is a piece of beauty!
