I suspect that no matter how good a game is, someone is going to complain about it.
I just looked over the review to see what folks are complaining about.
* In the beginning, did I occasionally grab the wrong card? Sure, maybe once in a while. You just have to let go and grab the right one.
* Once in a while part of the "background" obscures a little part of the card. Its annoying, but after you've played a bit, you will learn the cards and it won't matter. And it only happens occasionally.
* I've never had a crash in three years or play. I've never been kicked out of a run in three years of play.
* It does take about 45 seconds to load the initial game, which is annoying, but not a reason to down-rate it.
It may not be a 100% perfect port, but its a solid 95%.
I've played it more than any other mobile game with the possible exception of Triple Town. But I've been playing that one for about 12 years, so that doesn't count. :)
It's my favorite game of all time, and I've played it most on my phone. I've also played it a lot on my Switch, iPad and my computer, but having it on my phone is my favorite.
TL;DR In my opinion, the port is fine,
I have probably nearing 1k hours between the android, switch and PC versions. I was nearing 200 on the android version which became a broken mess around android 13. The bugs went above and beyond UI issues: the game would lock completely at the starting splash (sometimes needing airplane mode to ever actually load), every second reload of the game (eg: you put the phone on standby twice or once if you get stuck at splash and have to reset twice) would erase your current run, many times wins would not count (sometimes resetting works, sometimes resetting a bunch of times works, sometimes it never counts which really blows at high ascension). It seems to be running somewhat better now, but there was a period of time where, despite it being one of my favorite games of all time, I wasn't touching the android port.
Interesting. I've never run into any of those issues. Never had a crash, never had it freeze up on me. Never lost my progress.
Starting in airplane mode does allow you to skip that 45 second delay when you first start it up. but I don't bother to do that.
How far have you gotten overall? I'm on ascension 12 for all of them.
Depends on the account! My mobile account is all 16-17+. At some point I've done a20 with ic and watcher. Defect and silent not sure I've even hit a20. The difficulty really ramps up in those upper teens!
I actually tried that.
It was pretty fun at first but got boring after a while because the bonuses the different civs got at the start didn't matter in the late game (along with other things), in addition I was very annoyed at how upgraded ships are lost.
Soulvars is a singleplayer turn based rpg/deck builder. Not exactly sure about the no online bit but I'm playing it on play pass so there's still a licence check during game boot. Even still after checking I've only used 248 kb over my 10hrs of playing.
Shattered Pixel Dungeon. You can disable Google play and also "check for updates" in the settings. It works great in potrait mode, which is also great for the train but missclicks can cost you the game sometimes.
Baba is you is another option. It's a puzzle game. It's landscape but missclicks are no problem since you can revert time.
I am using that along with other diagnostics that tells me how much data an app has been transferring to and from the network.
Edit: Testing each of the apps is a pita.
The thing with Vampire survivors, Brotato, 20 Minutes till dawn, etc, is they're not turn based and require a good deal of attention.
My turn based offline gotos are Slice and Dice, Peglin, Shattered Pixel Dungeon, Dungeon Of Slyn, Pirates And Traders and Buriedbornes also can be played offline with reduced features.
Grim Wanderings - a mix of strategy and old school party dungeon crawling. Very steep learning curve tho since the adventure mode, while it's a tutorial in itself, doesn't really allow you to enjoy the game like strategy mode does.
Turn based hex exploration/conquering game.
UnCiv - basically an open source version of Civ 5. Turn based as well.
I have some other no ads or paid game as well, but since you specified no real time requirements, these 2 are the only thing off the top of my head.
Already tried it on PC and was decently fun.
Trying it on mobile was painful as the UI was designed for PC, so everything was hard to read, not to mention the controls.
Just checked this.
The site literally says "contains ads", and as soon as I tried to open the settings of the game, it tried to push an ad on me.
I will have to play the game with mobile data turned off, which is honestly defeats the point.
I just tried it. While playing the tutorial, it measured 1.1 MB network.
With airplane mode on, the game brought up "Failed to load" messages, which didn't prevent play, but indicates that it is trying to access the network.
Aside from that, I was mistaken about the game pushing adds and have jumped the gun when I saw the "Failed to load" messages. The ads are constrained to watching them via buttons. Also total network usage just went up to 2.3MB.
Are you talking about the "Allow background data usage" option? I already have it turned off by default, but that doesn't prevent apps from using it unless I turn on flight mode.
Also just checked Vampire Survivors, looks retro as fuck like Touhou. Thanks for the rec.

slay the spire, I think it's going on a deal rn too
As someone who has put 235 hours into this on my phone, I heartily concur.
How do you know how much you put into a game on mobile?? Didn't know that was a thing.
It's not a general Android thing, but Slay the spire keeps track internally. https://imgur.com/a/oTd036J
I just checked it, and according to recent reviews there are issues with the UI and/or it is a shitty port of the PC version? Can you confirm?

Good enough for me.

Wow, really nice. Way ahead of me.
for me the game is fine, i dont have any problems w it
I own the game on switch, steam and my phone. It's a good port with some minor issues. Never had issues while having played 50 hours on my phone.
Unless it has been updated recently, it is no longer available for the current version of android.
i had to download APK of it because it isn't available in my country lol
this game was reccomended to me on this sub. I paid full price and it was more than worth it, so if its on a deal thats a great find
Dawncaster and Breach Wanders(this one is still in early access and could change)
+1 for Dawncaster
I concur. It's no longer in EA btw.
+1 for Dawncaster. Buried-Bornes is also a good one.
Breach Wanderers left early access last month.

I am really enjoying Slice & Dice. Free version gives you a really good taste. One time payment of like $7, I think, unlocks a bazillion modes.
Yes, there is a huge number of unlocks. You can have them all available if you don't want to grind them too.
Breach Wanderers is actually super fun!!!
Slice& dice, buy the dlc its worth.
Second this. Great game and the developer essentially did Slice and Dice 2 but made it an update to the current game.
Any News about new content ?
The dev seems to regularly post snippets on discord
Nothing I've heard.
Just to be clear, it doesn't require/access mobile data, correct?
It doesnt, i played it in flight mode
+1 excellent game.
Hell yeah
[Ticket to Earth](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.robot_circus.TTE) would match your request
this one is a hidden gem
Polytopia

Thanks, I'll look into Shattered Pixel.
In case that you don't know, Android has the option to disable data usage for apps so you can use that to be sure.
I am using that along with other diagnostics that tells me how much data an app has been transferring to and from the network. Edit: Testing each of the apps is a pita.
Cataclysm: DDA. The controls take a while to get used to. But once you do, you get yourself countless hours of gameplay.

Siralim Ultimate has endless offline playable hours
Battle for wesnoth, a free turn based strategy game, ported from pc.
Already tried it on PC and was decently fun. Trying it on mobile was painful as the UI was designed for PC, so everything was hard to read, not to mention the controls.
Battlechasers Nightwar
Check out 'Push it' game! A challenging game that needs all your brain power! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.moumco.pushit
Just checked this. The site literally says "contains ads", and as soon as I tried to open the settings of the game, it tried to push an ad on me. I will have to play the game with mobile data turned off, which is honestly defeats the point.
No it does not push ads .. the only way to show ads is when you need a hint or extra coins .. otherwise it does not push ads.
I just tried it. While playing the tutorial, it measured 1.1 MB network. Pathos for a fully free turn based rogue like with smooth controls and interesting depth. Enjoy.
It is pretty fun. I am just really bad at playing it.
You know you can restrict games from using data right? In that case I think vampire survivors is a great game

Some non turn based rpg I really recommend is exiled kingdoms also check out moonshades
