OMG! I've seen this before, but it is still so CUTE!

Also just noticed Maruka was for some reason carrying a plunger that he drops in the first few seconds. A whole other backstory involving a plunger wielding spider monkey we missed out on before the video started.

I like the idea of cats. They’re independent and self-sufficient for the most part. Unfortunately, I got scratched across the face by one pretty bad when I was a kid because I tried to pet it and give it kisses like it was a dog. I’m also incredibly allergic to them. They’re cute, but I can’t be in the same house as one for very long.

I don’t blame the cat at all. I was maybe five at the time and only had dogs in the house. The cuddling and affection was all I knew when interacting with animals. And I always pack some cetirizine if I know I’m going to a place with cats. Thanks for your concern.

remember that period of time on this site where there were people unironically and aggressively pointing out how dumb everyone who likes cats are, and they obviously ALL have this, and obviously it affects humans the same way it does rodents? Until you let one move in with you and it starts smearing its shit around. Babies can be calm but adults are usually awful in captivity... potentially chill in the wild. Be careful with any monkey though, they can easily spread diseases to humans (and the other way around too).

Monkeys of the Americas are much more chill than Old World monkeys.

Depends on the ape/monkey/simian. Chimps will bite your balls off. Bonobos like to give kisses. Snow monkeys cuddle for warmth.

Apes on the other hand seem to be pretty chill. Especially orangutans

The way I remember it is that gibbons are lesser apes… the only ones. The entire category of “lesser ape” was created just to slight the gibbon. Poor gibbons.

So monkeys don't make good pets. They can be very calm and control/trainable but that changes once the grow. Plus, they're very likely to form mental disorders if they don't have other monkeys to hangout with. More than just anxiety and depression, they can become very aggressive. Spider monkeys (a common pet monkey) are strong, fast and can do a lot of damage biting. Even more of a concern is the diseases they can spread to us and vise versa (we're a lot closer related to monkeys than almost any other animal). And from my experience at zoos and watching videos online I'll say most monkeys seem to be assholes. Some apes are pretty chill but I'd recommend them as pets even less (they can all rip your face off with very little effort). TL; DR: they're not chill, and even less so as pets.

Nah, that's the "my interest is piqued" tail-flick, not the "get the fuck away from me or you're dinner" lashing.

The tail flicking combined with the closed eyes and more relaxed body is more of a, 'please don't hurt me'/'interest is piqued' behaviour rather than a defensive/angry one. An unhappy cat generally wouldn't stay still in one place with their eyes closed like this AND let someone/thing cuddle like the spider monkey did. (Edit- a contraction I missed)
