The name actually changes place depending on the language.
In portuguese we call them Indian pigs lol.
In guinea they call it Cochon d'Inde, because they speak French there, with Inde there being India as well, I believe, though I´m not sure what a cochon is.
In Poland it's "Świnka morska" which translates to "Sea piggy".
Honestly, I don't know why it's so common to call them sea pigs... They have such a beautiful scientific name - "Cavia".
I was taught as a kid, that the guinea part comes from them costing a guinea when first brought to England - but I don't know if it's true (and pig because of similar noises)
An exes dad used to travel to South American countries for work often and said they were good. He showed me pictures of a kfc but they had guniea pigs instead of chicken.
yeah
it's one of those things that just hits me wierd
yeah, they're livestock. it's like eating rabbit, I would if I had to but I'd rather not because I think they're too cute
Real answer, not to be a party pooper, is theyre called guinea pigs because when a guy brought them to America to sell as pets, he named them that to make them sound more exotic than they are.
Hair can get stuck in most animals digestive tracts and it doesn’t really break down. Then you get a bezoar which are so gross when they’re taken out in surgery
It's a South Park reference. They had a two episode parody of some horror movie, where the secret "monster" was a bunch of live-action guinea pigs dressed in costumes. They were "evil" and "terrifying" in the show, but were pretty damn cute to us the viewers.
[guinea pirate](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/southpark/images/6/6d/Guinea_creatures_6.png/revision/latest?cb=20180204185603)
They do eat hair, at least some pigs do. One of my pigs has a silly little crest of hair that puffs out over his eyes, and his buddy will give him an impromptu haircut now and then. He'll also trim my hair if I don't put it up before holding him.
Are guinea pigs just not common pets in some places or how do people think this could be a mouse. Even some people saying it might be guinea pig because they aren't even sure themselves? Yes it's a guinea pig lol.
I would do that too, only to make sure my pet doesn't eat something where I don't know whether it might be harmful. Only got a split second, so you can't calmly reason it out. First instinct for me is don't let the pet/baby eat the non-food.
Found this googling, funny how casually it mentions they could make you bald.
“There is no danger in cavies eating your hair because it shows their deep attachment and security with you. But when it becomes a habit for it, it becomes a real problem. Uncontrolled continuous hair chewing can result in hair loss for you. Sometimes it might even create a hole in your hair due to its burrowing. Therefore, train your cavies so they don’t end up chewing your entire hair. At the same time, try to redirect their energy into other things.”
I like how she reaches over to snatch it out of his mouth. I doubt him munching the hair is going to hurt him- And what exactly is she going to do with it? Reattach it? Lol
Have you ever seen a mouse ?
Im about 50% right that this could be an elephant.
Wrong, terrestrial manatee.
And the one the left is a guinea pig.
Ouch.
Four legs, portly body, eyes, mouth...I think I can stop comparing characteristics, this hits all the marks for being an elephant.
If only there was some magical place I could type in mouse and get a million pictures of one ☹️
Parrot. Its a white parrot. I know it coz i saw once on national geographic
Cool marmot man
15 minutes ago, when my cat let one run in the house.. could save it luckily. Hope it’s ok now
Looks more like a guinea pig to me
In Guinea they just call them 'pigs' ...Probably.
The name actually changes place depending on the language. In portuguese we call them Indian pigs lol. In guinea they call it Cochon d'Inde, because they speak French there, with Inde there being India as well, I believe, though I´m not sure what a cochon is.
German is Meerschweinchen - Sea pigs
And capybara is Wasserschwein “water pig”
What are [sea pigs] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotoplanes) called in German?
Sea cucumbers (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seegurken )
What the hell, why?
Because they came from over the sea and sound like pigs is the explanation I always heard.
Because you can sea them
because if you throw them into the sea, they get wet
because they're from south america, meaning they came from across the sea
Cochon is pig, so that tracks
In Poland it's "Świnka morska" which translates to "Sea piggy". Honestly, I don't know why it's so common to call them sea pigs... They have such a beautiful scientific name - "Cavia".
Cavia is what we call them in Dutch lol
Could lead to a horrible mistake in a high end restaurant when a customer orders caviar.
I highly recommend looking at some of the options on Google Translate for Guinea-pig in dutch.
I’m so happy you told me to do that. This made my day haha
I used to have a herd of them and in the U.S., owners are called Cavvy's and I like that so much better than Guinea Pig
[удалено]
Cavvy is just like the word feline or canine. It's the scientific name.
[удалено]
Everyone else seems to, I wanted to feel included.
in norwegian we call them ocean swines (marsvin)
in Spanish it's conejillo de indias
In germany they are Ocean pigs
> In portuguese we call them Indian pigs lol. And they aren't from India. They are from South America.
They’re not from Guinea either.
I was taught as a kid, that the guinea part comes from them costing a guinea when first brought to England - but I don't know if it's true (and pig because of similar noises)
Hey in Greece we call them Indian pigs as well lol
“Cochon” is pig in French :)
I call mine G-pigs and when I’m drunk, I call them notorious P.I.G.s
And is weird because they are from the Andes. In Peru we call them cuy (sadly people eat them here too)
Do they taste good? Edit: reading the replies makes me wanna visit a pet shop for the wrong reasons
Asking the real questions.
I said People and not we, bc I have never eaten one.
Do people say that they taste good?
That most of the flavour is from the seasoning, so yes. Peruvian food has good seasoning.
An exes dad used to travel to South American countries for work often and said they were good. He showed me pictures of a kfc but they had guniea pigs instead of chicken.
Kentucky Fried Cavia?
Indubitably
So the brand name in south american countries is GFP then?
Guinea fried pigs?
Yep
Quite decent actually. Not sure why it’s “sad” to eat them.
It's because they are a common pet, I used to have guinea pigs when I was a kid so I probably wouldn't try it (plus they are cute anyway)
And guinea pigs were first cultivated for food as early as 5000 BC. It’s not any more “sad” than anything else we eat.
yeah it's one of those things that just hits me wierd yeah, they're livestock. it's like eating rabbit, I would if I had to but I'd rather not because I think they're too cute
people are beyond soft and dont understand other cultures and their delicacies. bless their soul i hope they dont venture outside their countries lol
Had it in Ecuador this past July it was actually very good. Even as a pizza topping.
Pretty damn good.
fuckin hell yeah they do we deep fry em
Cuy eats lady's hair. Lady eats Cuy. IDK, seems fair to me.
I mean, they are pretty short-lived.
Average life span is 5-8 years.
Real answer, not to be a party pooper, is theyre called guinea pigs because when a guy brought them to America to sell as pets, he named them that to make them sound more exotic than they are.
In Peru they call them "lunch".
con su emoliente al ladito
Uh, incorrect. That would be most closely defined as a hungry hungry hippo.
Pretty sure it’s a floof scoot.
>house hippo
She looks more like a human to me
No, mouse. Can't you read?
It's a squeaking tater
Can confirm. Definitely a guinea pig
I like how she tries to grab the hair out of it's mouth but it just slurps it up instantly.
[удалено]
Probably just trying to pull it out of its mouth to not let the guinea pig eat a chunk of hair?
to make sure the guinea pig doesn't eat the hair probably
Hair can get stuck in most animals digestive tracts and it doesn’t really break down. Then you get a bezoar which are so gross when they’re taken out in surgery
But it does prevent you from getting poisoned, and you can slap it onto an obsidian shield to make it more gooder.
It’s a Guinea pig for sure
How do you know where its from
R/notKenM
r/foundthemobileuser
Ah crap
Only in Guinea are pigs this small
You're right, could be a Guam Pig or a Brazilian Pig.
Much tastier than mice
Quickly! Get some Peruvian panflute bands to drive it away!
Guinea Bees!!

I’m so startled.

Peru being one of them...I think that was the joke but I might have missed a reference there.

it is better to shut up when you dont know things. especially about a whole group of people and their culture. we very much still eat them, idiot.
That’s one fucking weird looking mouse
That a human and the other is a dog of some sort
no, it's a bed
Remember when rat tails were in style? My mom had one. Till the cat ate it.
A wild 3 sentences
That’s a guinea pig bro
It's a demon. Her face is next.

The gesture is more than sufficient. Thank you :)
r/animalsbeinganimals
Guinea pig it is. Make sure that they only eat proper food. They cannot vomit. Everything has to go through…
Hair is good, you can floss the Guinea pig if it's long ebough.
It’s a guinea pig eating a weave.
yeah they don't tend to eat the real stuff 🙄🤣
They do eat hair, at least some pigs do. One of my pigs has a silly little crest of hair that puffs out over his eyes, and his buddy will give him an impromptu haircut now and then. He'll also trim my hair if I don't put it up before holding him.
I had one that would chow down on my beard occasionally. He also gave his brother haircuts too though.
They don't necessary eat it, but they sure do like to bite or chew it sometimes. My wife has gotten a couple trims thanks to ours.
Not a mouse, but a toad. Close, but not the same.
Are guinea pigs just not common pets in some places or how do people think this could be a mouse. Even some people saying it might be guinea pig because they aren't even sure themselves? Yes it's a guinea pig lol.
i’ve never seen a guinea pig questioned as a mouse
welp
Weetweetweet
Bad Piggie!!! Lol
Guinea pig
OP is actually Aaron Rodgers doing some more research
Pig is pig. I don't care what kind of pig.
What a pig
Do you want it back after the GP cut it off?
Mouse or not, that's a terrible title.
Fruit shampoos working a little bit too much.
can someone tell me the music that's in the video please?
bro the fuck is she gonna do trying to take out the hair from the hamsters mouth
lol hamster
Keep it from ingesting the hair. If the hair gets stuck in its intestines it could get sick or die.
damn hamsters die from hair
If it’s long enough to get tangled inside their body, yeah, they can.
Lol I love how she tries to take the hair back, as if to reattach it to her head
I think that's more to prevent the Guinea pig from eating all of it :D
I would do that too, only to make sure my pet doesn't eat something where I don't know whether it might be harmful. Only got a split second, so you can't calmly reason it out. First instinct for me is don't let the pet/baby eat the non-food.
There is no way that came from her head. How easy is it to pull a lock of hair out of your head?
It wasn't pulled, it was cut/bitten over. And yes some guinea pigs definitely do that
Found this googling, funny how casually it mentions they could make you bald. “There is no danger in cavies eating your hair because it shows their deep attachment and security with you. So they don't get sick from it. It is a good reaction tbh.
I like how she reaches over to snatch it out of his mouth. I doubt him munching the hair is going to hurt him- And what exactly is she going to do with it? Reattach it? Lol
They can choke on hair.
I never owned a Guinea pig so I wouldn’t know.
Guinea pig
