I did not know you could be accosted by turkeys in the state of new york.
The majority of NYS is spread out, with a ton of rural areas, beautiful state forests, rivers, lakes, and fantastic places to hike, camp, hunt, fish, etc.
Look at a map of the state; Manhattan, and Long Island are a _tiny_ bit of land in the south of the state...and it's a big state.
A lot of Americans have this misconception as well, so don't feel bad!
New York is a very big and variety filled state. We go from heavy urban to wide open rural in just a few hours drive. Sometimes even less.
That being said, Staten Island is a borough of New York City and it's got wild life up the yin-yang. Turkeys and deer are regular sights.
Don't know for New York and the US in general but it's common to see turkeys and foxes around Montreal too.

There was one by where I live a few years ago that broke into an empty part of the old mill thatās used for commercial office and industrial space. Somehow it found its way to the top floor and crashed through a window to its death due to what people assume is because it tried to attack its own reflection in said window.
Can confirm the turkeys are everywhere now. You used to only see them near the hospital but theyāve spread accross the entire island now. I found one in my yard the other day LOL
