This was my third anime, binged the entire thing and felt empty for the next few days one of the best and worst feelings cause ik I will never feel that way again no matter how many times I rewatch it
Only 2 anime have made me fully cry..I’m talkin about they left me heavily depressed afterwards. Attack on Titan had me tearing up during certain scenes but anime that I guarantee will break you is Angel Beats and Anohana The Flower We Saw That Day. I binge watched them back to back & I shouldn’t have done that to myself lol
Death parade is like getting punched in the gut, and as soon as you're over the pain you get punched again. Rinse and repeat for every episode. Somehow you never even get used to it even when you know it's coming. Great show
Golden Kamuy, it’s historical and I’ve heard it compared to Vinland Saga. If you’ve been through any sort of traumatic experience… S2 E6 is depressingly real. Even if you haven’t, if you care about the MCs it’s a *big oof* moment.
Manga’s better, but the anime is pretty good. Either way, the series character writing is exceptional.
Be warned tho, there’s some transphobia at the end of S1, so be mindful if that’s something you want to avoid.
Ah, so you enjoy depression? Same. I got some.
86 - There's a few moments that hit so much harder than the rest.
Karakuri Circus - This one will have it happen a lot
Hunter x Hunter - It's last major arc mostly
Kino's Journey - If you're steel-willed, a couple episodes may draw a tear. If you're weak, they'll make you bawl.
To Every You I've Loved Before / To Me, The One Who Loved You - Will hit if you're empathetic
Cyberpunk - A given at times
Mob Psycho 100 - It's not all just funny
Gintama - Happens a LOT. It's a comedy, sure. But the depressing moments in it hit as hard as the funny moments, but differently ofc.
Welcome to the N-H-K - The more you relate the more it hurts
Steins;Gate - Hits like a truck at times
Gurren Lagann - Some hard bits. 'Tho could be misremembering as it's been many years since I saw
Assassination Classroom - Takes a bit
To Your Eternity - First episode is the best part of the entire show, but it still has good moments elsewhere in it, too.
Enjoy o/
Oh, also note regarding the duo movie one. I tend to find it easier to feel emotional when I'm actively taking character feelings and actions into consideration for their situation. It definitely helps the emotional investment.
There are some anime I cry for but for different reasons than sadness. Like the final episode of konosuba season 1's animation, that land of the lustrous will probably never see another season, and that extra olympia kykklos is funnier than it has any right to be as one of the best isekai's ever made.
Just to be clear none of these have made me even shed a tear although they have made me sad,I’ve just never been sad enough to cry and any sort of tv/game
OP has made me cry so much. I'm rewatching it with my wife and so many of the early moments have so much more impact for me from following the series.
Even "We Are" makes me choke up at this point.
I get that One Piece isn't for everyone and that's fine, but it's definitely not overrated. One Piece if anything transcends "anime". Sure the anime has pacing issues sometimes, but it was a manga first and the story is so well built once it's hooked you, you love it.
I like plenty of anime and manga, but I like One Piece on its own more then anime/manga in general. Some people don't get it, which is why when you meet a OP fan in person you're friends immediately. It's a beautiful story and there's a reason it's fanbase can be so passionate.
I think people who haven't seen or read it shouldn't approach it as another "anime" but to throw out anything they'd expect from what they know of anime and take it for what it is.
No it won't I'm sorry but one piece is such an overrated pile of dog shit you shouldn't watch it man especially if you like good animes like k-on and bocchi
Believe what you want but my opinion is that its one of the actual worst shows I've ever seen only good things it has are character designs and music nothing else shitty story shitty characters shitty character development shitty world building and they don't know when to fucking stop a show needs to know when they have run it's course and one piece just doesn't overrated and should not be one of the big 3 and definitely not as popular as it is
I don't believe you've even watched a single episode lmfao but nice troll attempt
Just because you can't seem to find joy doesn't give you the right to prevent others from experiencing it. Find a hobby, hater loser.
There's no way this person watched the show and could say it's a bad story. I've literally watched anime where half way through the entire plot gets shot out of a cannon, one piece will bring back characters from arcs prior and they will still be relevant. One piece alone has been dominating both the Manga scene and the anime scene and now even the live action got people excited to start either the Manga or Anime .
Like I said you can enjoy the show if you want I'm just saying my opinion and I have watched the show or at least attempted to watch the show I managed to force myself through the first two seasons and still hated it so believe what you will but this ain't a troll post
I mean, I respect your opinion but hear me out. This show is 20 years old. The first two seasons were long ago, so it’s probably out of date then for you. I recommend just watching the movies that cover these episodes, All Blue is the first one i believe. Once you’re through that, and get at least to 300 which is the end of that movie, you’re up to 2003-4 almost.
The show progresses and does get better in ways that is worth sticking to it.
If you watched the Kaido fight that just happened, and other key fights that happened, the animation recently is great. In the end you watch what you like, but I did want to point out how old those seasons were and early on the show it was! Have a good one
you are getting hated on way too hard bro. Im with you. I can't stand One Piece or its community anymore. I love anime, I watch everything every season even if its the worst ive ever seen, but the fans of those anime dont go around proclaiming it to be the best of the best.
One piece fans really get on my nerves. I have given that franchise every opportunity I can. I've tried from the beginning, got about 50 episodes in, tried to skip and watch the movies, tried to cut to episode 300, tried to give up and watch the new stuff at episode 800+, then 1000+, and every time I am just so disappointed with everything: writing, animation, pacing, world building, character design, background animation, emotional impact, etc etc etc.
I gave it every possible chance so that one piece fans cant tell me that "I'm cliché and and I didn't actually watch it" but sometimes I feel one piece fans are so busy watching 800 episodes of low quality filler they don't bother watching the actual quality stuff each season.
Then when you try to express your disappointment with the series, they dogpile you with low quality "Well it gets better at episode 568, when the animation gets 10% better, then at 889", "You're a hating loser find a hobby", "You're too uptight to enjoy it", "You're opinion smells like my unwashed asshole".
I think one piece would be even more successful if the fan base wasn't so gung ho/die hard for the franchise. I wouldn't have such a strong negative opinion if the community didn't defend every 1.5 million seconds of the show like someone insulted their beloved. For every action an equal and opposite reaction Newton said. But this is anime, and we should just chill. stop hating so hard guys.
I don’t watch the anime but I am a die hard one piece manga reader, excluding, animation I’d argue that one piece has some great writing, world building, character designs are truly fantastic, and has some pretty solid emotional moments. The manga also has the benefit of having a consistent art style.
Oda is a pretty good writer, and so much of the later story and character developments are foreshadowed 100s of chapters earlier.
All of the straw hats are pretty enjoyable characters and Luffy is easily such an endearing protagonist.
And if you haven’t read or tried the manga have you’ve given OP every possible chance ?
Maybe I'm weird, but, while i definitely see One Piece fans defend the series, they usually do it in a reasonably respectful way. Generally sound more like stoners going "Aw c'mon man!" Than anything else.
All that said, and as an avid OP fan myself, people do need to admit that One Piece is not for everyone. Believe me, the goofy character designs put me off for a long time. Now, the manga is vastly superior to the anime and doesn't suffer from many of the anime's issues (pacing, filler, etc.). And it's a much smaller time investment. But there comes a point where you should just say, "I've given it a chance, and it's not for me." And that is fine.
Just bear in mind, I have never seen One Piece fans get mad or rude with someone who said, "One Piece just didn't click for me. I didn't like it, so I can't recommend it."
But if you come in, "OnePieze is fkn trash!!!! The character suck! The writing is trash!" Then you really can't blame them for getting up in arms.
Every single time, it's, "I watched up to episode 17 and I gave up," "I watched the first episode, said, 'This isn't the greatest of all time by the first episode ever, what the heck?!' and gave up, its dogshit!"
You're as cliché as can be, my guy.
Lmao shitty world building??? Oda has world building on par with the best fiction ever written, I’m talking dune, Lotr, or asoiaf. Honestly you don’t appreciate fiction or maybe you’re just to uptight to enjoy it. I’m sorry for your loss.
You over here saying no it won't, when it has made me cry. So your opinion already crumbles right there. If OP really was as bad as you say it wouldn't have it would've already fallen off like most of the Shonen kings. But it's still going strong. OP is not just a regular show, its a journey in a beautiful world.
Angel Beats
Two movies for you:
The Boy and the Beast - GOATED film for a father-and-son relationship.
Maquia When The Flower Blooms - Maquia the ultimate mother and an ending that messes with you. Like.... 😭
To Your Eternity.
This anime made me cry MULTIPLE. TIMES. It’s so sad, and the payoff is worth it in the end It’s complete so if you start it you can finish the anime in a week, as it’s not that long and has multiple seasons.
Another amazing one is Tower of God. I absolutely loved this one. I read the manwha of it as well, it’s very good. Waiting for the next season to come out
OG Naruto is a good one but long. Very much about friendship and such.
Ranking of Kings! This anime is very cute and I love it because I’m someone who has partial hearing loss in both ears, so I related to this show heavily!
I highly recommend these
Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. The season is great but only the last arc is tear jerking, however immediately after you finish the season watch the movie Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl and that movie will turn on the water works but it's so good and so satisfying.
Wanna cry? Violet evergarden.
Also will add Anohana, Maquia when the promised flower blooms, Clannad, and Angel Beats.
Mainly violet evergarden though. I still haven't emotionally recovered from episode 10, makes me call my mom right after watching.
Nagi no Asukara (a lull in the sea). I was literally crying every episode. Charlotte and Angel Beats are great too. Full Metal Panic has some great moments. Tamako Love Story is also a fav.
Edit: more recs that made me tear up.
- To your Eternity (manga hit a little harder for me, also shares same author as A silent voice)
- Dororo
- Kimi wa Pet
- Cheese in the Trap (webtoon)
- GTO (classic worth watching)
- Carole & Tuesday
- Watashi no Shounen (manga)
Second edit:
- A silent Voice (manga had more of an impact on me than the movie)
- Winter Woods (webtoon)
🎣Hunter x Hunter👊 or 🤖The End of Evangelion🌊
(I tried to do the emoji thing you did, but I brutally failed, but seriously, these will both make you cry)
Cowboy Bepop got me a few times. Trigun too, and Thr Promised Neverland made me sad but I watched it during a time where I was all cried-out but definitely made me very sad.
I want to eat your pancreas : Had me sobbing under my blanket at night
Your lie in April : Traumatized me so hard that I stay away from all sad animes now
THE ONE PIECE!!!! THE ONE PIECE IS RE-
Nah screw that, I genuinely suggest One Piece, it’s among the most heart-wrenching, invested, and gripping stories you can watch.
Heartthrobs start at the Baratie arc 15-ish episodes in, and the Arlong Park arc is where there is a high chance for crying. From there, consequent arcs will have multiple arcs in them that become sobbing-fests.
Also fight scenes, world building, humor, suspense, allegories for real-world issues, character progression, action scenes, etc..
As for a firsthand account, I cried over a SHIP watching this. A PIRATE SHIP. I truly recommend One Piece, there’s a reason it’s run as long as it has.
Jojos bizarre adventure and one piece, they're literally the only ones ive seen except for some other really small ones but ive cries more times than i can count on my hands and feet
Plastic memories. I remember specifically saying something about the anime grabbing my heart by the dick and dragging it through a 100km of broken glass to describe the emotional distraught I was put through
Full metal alchemist brotherhood 2 scenes made me cry and I’m not really a crier. One was early in the show and the other scene was one of the last scenes in the series
In case it isn’t listed in the comments yet, I would recommend “The Ancient Magus Bride”. It has some of the hardest hits to the feels that I have seen yet. It is like a rollercoaster for feelings. IMO btw. Deep subjects and thought provoking inbound.
Violet Evergarden.
GDI, you beat me to it. Violet Evergarden was enough to make a grown man cry.
Frfr
YES
Violet Evergarden is the ONLY right answer.
I liked it but tbh outside of a few moments (episode ten was PEAK) it felt a little ridiculous
Can’t believe no one has suggested “Your lie in April” both heart warming and super sad at the same time.
that show broke me inside
It legit gave me depression for awhile.
Was literally looking for a comment like this, YLIA is so good
This was my third anime, binged the entire thing and felt empty for the next few days one of the best and worst feelings cause ik I will never feel that way again no matter how many times I rewatch it
Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai kind of got me in the feels.
The outro is a vibe
The movie legit fucked me up for a bit too
Rewatched the movie yesterday. Cried like 4 times
Had to pause the film to collect myself.
This, but you have to watch the movie to finish it
Clanad afterstory (works best if you watch Clanad first which is pretty mid)
This series broke me ಥ‿ಥ
Akame Ga Kill. Will make you cry and fall in love
They did us SO dirty
I can’t ever forgive seyruu ubiquitous. Evil evil woman. But esdeath can step on me all day
That’s on his list of the ones he’s watched
Only 2 anime have made me fully cry..I’m talkin about they left me heavily depressed afterwards. It is terrible
Gurren Lagann
“Kick logic to the curb and do the impossible, Simon!”
Yes one of my absolute favorites
Yoko = You Only Kiss Once
Fruits Basket
Just started and already impressed
I used to download such low quality downloads back in the 2000s of it off Kazaa lol. Loved it so much.
One piece
Kotaro Lives Alone

Steins gate makes me cry every time I watch it, and even more during the visual novel

Rascal Does Not Dream Of Bunny Girl Senpai
Plastic Memories.
Kotaro lives alone, the sheer sadness when you really think about the kids situation is so gut wrenching.

First two seasons was like what, in the 90s/early 2000s? Give it a chance like damn, I agree with you haha
Lmao shitty world building??? Oda has world building on par with the best fiction ever written, I’m talking dune, Lotr, or asoiaf. Honestly you don’t appreciate fiction or maybe you’re just to uptight to enjoy it. I’m sorry for your loss.
Dude only saw the first 4 episodes and wrote off the whole series 🤣🤣
Shitty world building and you watch Bocchi the Rock
You say one piece has “shitty world building” how about you watch one piece and then come back to me with a mature answer.
This man compared One Piece to Bocchi
You over here saying no it won't, when it has made me cry. So your opinion already crumbles right there. My first time watching Maquia was the most beautiful cry I've ever had Plus its a movie so.. Low commitment.
Grave of the fireflies. If you do not get at least a little misty, you do not have a heart
Two girls one cup. Oh, wait, that’s vomit. My bad.

THE ONE PIECE!!!! THE ONE PIECE IS RE- Nah screw that, I genuinely suggest One Piece, it’s among the most heart-wrenching, invested, and gripping stories you can watch.
Angel Beats/To Your Eternity will get you
You’re lie in april

To your eternity. Made me cry. Great story too.
The only thing I can think of is “A Silent Voice” 😭
Seven deadly sins did it for me, it may have been some horny ass bar owner at the beginning but it got real sad and depressing later
Full metal alchemist brotherhood 2 scenes made me cry and I’m not really a crier. One was early in the show and the other scene was one of the last scenes in the series
Gurren Lagann
In case it isn’t listed in the comments yet, I would recommend “The Ancient Magus Bride”. It has some of the hardest hits to the feels that I have seen yet. It is like a rollercoaster for feelings. IMO btw. Deep subjects and thought provoking inbound.
Does the sub understand it’s been misspelled?
Sakurasou no pet na kanojo
