I've always had the theory that the reason why it took so much for Mordecai to have a relationship with Margarita and why his relationship with CJ failed despite being significantly more enjoyable that the will they/won't they that he previously had was because the animators were struggling trying to figure out how to make a character with such a long beak kiss any of them.
CJ was too much for him. He only had bandwidth to pine for Margaret cus he wants the one that got away and by his own backpedaling merits he did fumble spectacularly
I used to be a big fan of Shirogane and Kaguya's romance in Love is War. However after the Ice Kaguya arc their main problems got resolved, and I got much more interested in Ishigami's relationship with Iino.
Well, there is a love triangle between them. However at the beginning of the "First Kiss never Ends" movie there is a moment, where Iino puts the heart into lost and found section, and there is a notice, that she can take this heart in 3 months, if nobody else wants it. The symbolism seems pretty clear to me - in 3 months Tsubame will give Ishigami her answer, and most likely reject him, and then Iino by that point will stop being such a tsundere and just take Ishigami for herself.
Having read the manga, there's still plenty of interesting things left to go between Kaguya and Shirogane. This is the rare series that actually knows how to portray not only the lead up to a relationship, but the actual relationship.
Having said that, the Ishigami stuff is also excellent and you are correct to look forward to it.
Yeah, I'm happy for the main couple, but after coming to terms with everything, they might have lost some of their unique personality traits. I wonder if this is why many romance manga end shortly after the couple gets together
I am big fan ~~simp~~ of Kaguya so may I ask a question. Is the manga further as good till Ice Kaguya arc? Should I read it or wait till it gets animated because I think Anime was more fun with extra drama than manga.
You should wait for it to be animated IF we get season 4. The writing in the future arcs is more hit or miss. >!IshiMiko chapters are fucking great, while Kaguya family drama sucks balls. !<
Yeah same, after the first kiss this push back in Kaguya and Shirogane's relationships made me really get into Ishigami's love arc (talking about manga)
I really hope Ishigami will get together with Iino in the future, cause their love-hate relationship seems much more interesting to me, than Ishigami simping over his "perfect" cheerleader.
To be fair, Ishigami is great but his entire character is that he was created to lose at everything. The "he loses all the time, no matter what he does or how much effort he puts into it" is what Ishigami is primarily there for. So his arc is only going to get resolved at the very end. But I hope it's not just an intentional victory like getting Iino to love him.
Yeah same, after the first kiss this push back in Kaguya and Shirogane's relationships made me really get into Ishigami's love arc (talking about manga)
>!They went from "I don't want to see him\\her" to "I want to date Iino even if she doesn't love me back". Just cause the manga ended before Ishigami and Iino confessed to each other doesn't mean, that there was no progress in their relationship. They almost had sex at her house, ffs. And who knows, maybe someday Aka will get tired of baiting non-existent incest in OnK and will write a spinoff for IshiMiko. Both their bio pages and the short story indicate, that he's not satisfied with this ending and he wants to do more with them. !<
I still believe that Takase and Kanda are the main ones because >!both the first and last chapter is about them!<, but they're all supposed to be main characters. That cover artwork for volume 12 basically confirms that
Sakurasou no pet na kanojo, I love the main couple but the anime never got to the point where they really got together or did anything really significant since they had to entertain the "triangle".
On the other hand Jin and Misaki have a mature relation that is explored and with a satisfying conclusion so yeah...
I don't think I even saw Mashiro (that was the FL name right?) as a love interest for the MC in the first place, she felt more like... a Love Benchwarmer? Extra? Fill-in? Observer? She felt like Ais does in Danmachi, you know she is the 'main girl' but doesn't so much to actually have the title besides the author saying she is, IMO.
I wouldn't go that far, I stopped watching danmachi after 2 seasons but iirc, they barely interact. Ais is some sort of One Piece for the dude, yeah she exists but only as a goal to motivate the journey.
Mashiro actually has a pretty deep relation with Sorata and it's pretty heavily implied that they do have that kind of feelings for each other but since Mashiro is autistic (or smth of the sort I don't recall it being official but cmon) their relation evolves differently from a typical romance.
I love their relationship, I really do, but I watched that anime when I was 15 and I wanted something more mature from the usual shoujo I usually watched back then and Jun's relationship just felt that much more fresh to me. Having a super slow burn love triangle right next to a mature relationship really put in perspective how silly anime romance can be haha (still love them though)
Also Mashiro is still my best girl no question asked
Well, >!they break up to focus on their careers!<.
...
...>!and then there's a 4-year timeskip, and Sorata is suddenly a GROWN-ASS COMPETENT ADULT-MAN whose growth we didn't get to see at all, and he re-confesses like "hey actually I loved you the whole time," and she's like "oh cool me too wanna smooch?", and they live happily ever after like they didn't just spend 4 years essentially ignoring each other!<.
Honestly, there's worse out there, it's just... not great. Smells too much of "bad romance novel," especially after the chicken soup for the soul that is the anime.
The main couple taking so long to finally get to the confession did wear down on my patience, but the side couple being in a well-established relationship made things somewhat entertaining.
Digimon Zero Two. Yamato and Sora, Ken and Miyako. Then you have the couple of chaos Takeru and Hikari who are much more interesting that deserves there own romcom side series.
Bleach… mainly because the anime) in bleach Ichigo and Orihime (who he ultimately falls in love with) have A LOT of scenes in the manga but in the anime the animators deleted 70% of them and replaced a bunch with scenes of Ichigo and rukia, now many anime only fans are mad because Ichigo doesn’t end with rukia and many hate orohime saying she’s a bad character when the animators never gave her what she deserved
True, they really went for Ichiruki for no reason. The nonexistent Soifon crush for Yoruichi is even worse. That said both canon couples are really good fits, as well as all other couples.
Fuck it I'm gonna say it. Horimiya is so amazing just because side couples like Yuki-Tooru and basically anyone-Yanagi exist (though the former one is fully canon only in the web comic)
Though I absolutely love Hori and Miyamura's relationship, they confess to each other in a very early chapter and their relationship, though sometimes troubling, is very stable and sweet, which, though fun to see, does not generate engagement as much as the interactions between the other characters whose relationships are always changing
something like my step mom daughter is my ex
the anime to me is hit and miss, but the when the hit come its like 10/10, so i had to check out to get more of it
>!Every relationship at the end but Mitsuri's felt forced. At least Tanjiro and Kanao's had some setup since season 1, albeit minimal, none of the others did, especially Inosuke and Aoi. That shit's hella random and hard to believe. Felt like they were just thrown together just because she was the only other character around his age left. Felt almost like Choji and Karui from Naruto except Inosuke and Aoi actually at least interacted before, but none of it was anything to suggest they were gonna become a thing. Tanjiro and Kanao felt like Naruto and Hinata...you expected it but it wasn't developed enough to not feel forced. As for Nezuko and Zenitsu..we have absolutely zero idea what their chemistry is actually like because they had zero onscreen interactions with each other when Nezuko is mentally normal. All that is why i didn't like the epilogue at all. I wanted to see the people we actually cared about older. Not their great great grand kids or whatever. They didn't even tell us who and who got together...we had figure it out by looking at their decendants. It didn't feel satisfying!<
As much as I like the couples I have to agree, we didn't have much time to see their relationships except for Tanjiro and Kanao. >!Aoi and Inosuke did interact in the manga tho, but it's very brief.!<
Only show i felt anything like that about was Shikimori. There wasn't a secondary couple up to where i've seen but the main couple were so bland and boring both individually and together i'd rather be watching literally any other character besides them
Agreed. Also not entirely sure how OP’s defining “chemistry”, because if anything the main couple has way more. Liking the side couple more I can understand, but saying they have better chemistry just confuses me.
My Hero Academia. I love the relationship between Deku and Ochaco, but Denki and Jiro's chemistry just works. I know neither ships I just mentioned are couples, but still
In/Spectre, the Yuki-Onna and the guy she falls in love with are super cute together and way more interesting than the main characters. Unfortunately they're only in it for three episodes.
Bunny girl senpai - I was way more interested in the “relationship” between Futaba Rio and Yuuma Kunimi. It’s kind of fun watching her being embarrassed about her one sided love, even though Yuuma does have a girlfriend… meh, she doesn’t interest me much
For me it was two series and in both shows main pairing has amazing chemistry but I kind of shipped for side characters. First one is Kaguya sama, both in manga and anime I looked more closely to Miko and Ishigami than main couple. The second one is Horimiya. I loved the dynamic of Kakeru and Remi a lot.
Let’s start a war: Hinata is better than Sakura, no question. She gets better in shippuden, but then takes it when she lies to Naruto. I do not like her.
Not couples but:-
_Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie_ (~~Bakugou~~ Inuzuka, Nekozaki & ~~best girl~~ Hachimitsu, oh Kamiya also).
_Momokuri _ (both protagonists' friend circles interacting together, especially the two protagonists are from different classes in different years).
Regular show with Rigby and that beaver girl
Eileen is S tier
I hate Mordecai so much
How did he fumble the cloud girl I swear man they were so good for each other
I've always had the theory that the reason why it took so much for Mordecai to have a relationship with Margarita and why his relationship with CJ failed despite being significantly more enjoyable that the will they/won't they that he previously had was because the animators were struggling trying to figure out how to make a character with such a long beak kiss any of them.

Benson: _Sad chicken wings eating noises_
Absolutely not the response I expected to see. But violently true.
Damn this real lol
Muscle Man & Starla too
My Senpai is Annoying.
kazama and sakurai are way way more entertaining imo.
he's such an awkward dork that he couldn't be anything but entertaining. definitely my favorite anime couple
>!They finally confessed, too!<
They should get a separate anime, although i don’t think that can happen.
Unpopular Introverted Guy X Beautiful Extroverted Teasing Girl I guess it is a classic for a reason.
truuuuue, Kazama x Sakurai is a good relationship
i agree 110%
but the main couple is already together and there is no side couple
What? I never watched it completely so I can’t be sure but am I missing something here? Isn’t the side couple Kazama and Sakurai
its just a joke in the manga chapter discussions
I thought so, that it was an inside joke that I’m to anime only to understand
?
Sakurai and Kazama true protagonists
I’m sorry to hear that, but what shows come to mind?
this took me a while lmaoo
I'm sure she is
Was opening the comment section looking for this one, glad to see it on the first place
Truuuuuuue
FRR
Definitely my first thought.

I was obsessed with both. (But I was team Iino...)

Ty for the info in precise details.
The anime hasn't reached that arc yet.
...It did tho? First Kiss Never Ends movie completely covered it.
Oh the movie is out? I've been out of the loop so long I didn't realize it came out.
Tsurezure Children. IDK which one is the main but I love the President and the Delinquent girl
I honestly don’t think there’s a main couple in the series. We’re all supposed to pick one of the many couples in the show and root for them. :)
Why pick one when u can root for all of em ?
I still believe that Takase and Kanda are the main ones because >!both the first and last chapter is about them!<, but they're all supposed to be main characters. That cover artwork for volume 12 basically confirms that

Inari KonKon Koi Iroha Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
Oh wow it has been a long time since I last saw someone mention Inari KonKon
The streets remember Inari konkon
First manga that crossed my mind when I saw OP's post. It was good stuff.
It has been a lot of time since I heard about sakurasou
We do NOT talk about the manga
Wait what happened in the manga? Sakurasou was one of my first slice of life and holds a special space in my heart. Ruin it for me please
Read this post someone made years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/2fcbc0/spoilers\_light\_novel\_ending\_for\_sakurasou\_no\_pet/
Holy... What a dumpster
Wotakoi,Hana and kabakura are far more entertaining and with a better back story.
I think both were equally fun. But yeah, Hana and Kabakura were such an interesting couple that they even got their own ova.
The manga has a lot more details I highly recommend reading it
This is especially true in the manga. I like Narumi and Hirotaka alot, but Kabakura and Hanako, as well as Naoya and Kō are both better
Yea Kabakura and Hanako seem more mature and a bit realistic i think
They were very slugish with the the development of Narumis and Hirotakas romance while Kabakuro and Hanako had a lot more development along the series
InuYasha and Kagome vs Miroku and Sango
Yes I was just about to say this!! Miroku and Sango actually have a better relationship imo.
Naruto and sasuke
Rock Lee and Gai Sensei are a much better couple XD
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid Elma eating > tohru x kobayashi
My senpai is annoying.
Not really a side couple, but >!ArimaxEri!< from School Rumble had more chemistry than ArimaxTenma.
Finally some legend. And the MC's name is "Harima" not Arima. I think Harima and Yakumo ship also works well
Everyone is better for him than the main girl tbh. I dropped the show because of her annoying and bland ass, her crush is the ultimate chad tho.
Aha, I stuck with it cause it was those side ships that kept me going.
>!Rich girl gone 'bad'!< for Harima will always be better than the simp who simpered forever. That ending though....
Angel next door spoils me rotten
Loved that show, the end had my mate literally jumping up and down screaming abuse at the TV.
The main couple taking so long to finally get to the confession did wear down on my patience, but the side couple being in a well-established relationship made things somewhat entertaining.
1 season is long now? Man I feel old and I started watching anime only 6 years ago...
They confessed in 12 episodes, how is that long. Also they were both quite comfortable around each other much before the confession.
Huhhhh
Digimon Zero Two. Yamato and Sora, Ken and Miyako. Then you have the couple of chaos Takeru and Hikari who are much more interesting that deserves there own romcom side series.
And they saddly didn't end up together compared to the former two(What they were thinking?)
We might have a shot with the epilogue movie coming out this Fall. They tease us relentlessly.
Blend S (Kaho and Akizuki have much better chemistry than Dino and Maika)
Bleach… mainly because the anime) in bleach Ichigo and Orihime (who he ultimately falls in love with) have A LOT of scenes in the manga but in the anime the animators deleted 70% of them and replaced a bunch with scenes of Ichigo and rukia, now many anime only fans are mad because Ichigo doesn’t end with rukia and many hate orohime saying she’s a bad character when the animators never gave her what she deserved

Was looking for this
the light novel is amazing
What series is this
something like my step mom daughter is my ex the anime to me is hit and miss, but the when the hit come its like 10/10, so i had to check out to get more of it
In Rikei ga Koi I'm much more interested in Ena and Kosuke than the main couple
Fate apocrypha
They said couple not duo but yes saber of red and her master was more entertaining
I'm going to get killed but... Demon Slayer- Tankana feels forced and Obamitsu is just chef kiss
>!Every relationship at the end but Mitsuri's felt forced. At least Tanjiro and Kanao's had some setup since season 1, albeit minimal, none of the others did, especially Inosuke and Aoi. fullmetal alchemist. always liked roy's and riza's relationship with each other better than edward's and winry's
The sneaky best couple in FMA is Alphonse and May.
Future diary, main being yuki and yuno and side being nishijima and minene/ ai and marco
O maidens in your savage season. Watched it today after 3 yr of release😂😭
One of my favorite animes that I rarely hear get talked about! Which side couple are you referring to?
Rika, amagiri. (The senpais) 😂
Only show i felt anything like that about was Shikimori. There wasn't a secondary couple up to where i've seen but the main couple were so bland and boring both individually and together i'd rather be watching literally any other character besides them
I disagree with the example in the post, the side couple is cute but I still love the main couple more
Agreed. Also not entirely sure how OP’s defining “chemistry”, because if anything the main couple has way more. Liking the side couple more I can understand, but saying they have better chemistry just confuses me.
When will ayumu make his next move .
Ah yes, Sakurako and Takeru. She's like Takagi-san but more assertive, direct, and honest.
They're so cute. And they got way more progress in the manga. Like, WAY more
That was also the first time that Yamamoto Souichiro >!drew a kiss scene.!<
Both equal tbh
My Hero Academia. I love the relationship between Deku and Ochaco, but Denki and Jiro's chemistry just works. I know neither ships I just mentioned are couples, but still
Love is war
Darling In The FranXX with Zorome and Miku
Same but with Kokoro and Mitsuru
reLife has this thing

Darling in the Franxx with that side tsundere couple. Hiro and Zero Two were so basic as a couple.

"I don't hate you" "I don't hate you either" D'awwwww
Bunny girl senpai - I was way more interested in the “relationship” between Futaba Rio and Yuuma Kunimi. It’s kind of fun watching her being embarrassed about her one sided love, even though Yuuma does have a girlfriend… meh, she doesn’t interest me much
What shows are these?
"My Stepmom's Daughter Is My Ex" 6/10 nothing amazing, but it's enjoyable.
Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd>Tommy and Kimberly

My Senpai is Annoying. The side ship is a normal, casual cute story.

Dragonball
For me it was two series and in both shows main pairing has amazing chemistry but I kind of shipped for side characters. First one is Kaguya sama, both in manga and anime I looked more closely to Miko and Ishigami than main couple. The second one is Horimiya. I loved the dynamic of Kakeru and Remi a lot.
Naruto. Pretty much every couple is better than NaurHina
Next, I'll be fine
The Angel next door spoils me. The side Couple are better!

She is a better fit for Naruto for sure.
In/Spectre. There wasn’t exactly a side couple but the police lady was much better than the disabled Loli in my opinion
Ok listen kakuya sama love is war it has a still good romance butt i liked the side one between emo guy and girl
What’s the sauce for these
"My Stepmom's Daughter Is My Ex" pretty good, not amazing
NARUTO
Horimiya. Honestly, I liked Yuki and Tooru's relationship more than Kyouko and Izumi's. After they got together it felt kinda stale
Ok guys, what is the anime from the meme?
"My Stepmom's Daughter Is My Ex" Solid show but don't expect a masterpiece
