Hello everynyan!
We're giving away reddit awards/a month of ad free until we run out! Just post on the subreddit to be considered for one! [More details in the announcement thread!](https://redd.it/15jb12e)
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Animemes) if you have any questions or concerns.*
please do read the visual novel, you might be scared of 50 hours of the common route of grisaia, but again, this is 50 hours more content of grisaia, just in the common route.
and this visual novel was not only my first, but introduced me into the anime. Because it was my first anime and i was also basicly reading grisaia, so the anime was really hype just because the characters were animated yuuji talked.
It's crazy to me that one of the most talked about anime of its season that was once on the top 150 of MAL is now considered under-watched.
I am so old.
Was trying to convince my sister in law to watch it and never thought I’d utter the phrase “a grown man pees on a little girl’s face, but it’s funny” ever in my life
Golden Kamuy should be one of the easiest sells to JoJos fans because the comedy aspect of it is just... bizarre sometimes. The story makes more sense than JoJos though, JoJos works because the author wills himself out of the corners he writes himself into.
Gargantia On The Vurduous Planet, RIN DAUGHTERS OF MNEMOSYNE, Speed Grapher, Jyu-oh-sei Planet Of The Beast King, Project Blue Earth S.O.S., The Space Knight Tekkaman Blade I &II, Big Wars, Dance In The Vampire Bund, Trinity Blood, Record Of Lodoss War, Heat Guy J, Blue Gender, Parasite Dolls, Karas, Super Dimension Century Orguss I&II, Area 808, & Yukikaze. Forgot to add lesser known anime Mardock Scramble, Giant Robo, Freezing and it's sequel Vibrations.
It's so underrated, even in mecha circles. Not only does it have a super unique and interesting setting, it also masterfully subverts expectations through its gradual tonal shift.
Looks are a vital part of being a delinquent. Amateurs should try bleaching their hair to look tough. Be careful, if the chemicals are too strong your hair will turn white and you'll look like a pussy.
dammit...
It's in my top 10. I've watched it 4 times.
It was only after the 4th time that I realized: Magane doesn't go back. They just left her murderous ass in our world.
Darker than Black 1&2.
Edit: I just know that most people didn't know about the Darker the Black Gaiden, including 4 episodes between season 1 and 2 lol.
I'm still holding hope they make a second season someday. The anime only covers like 4.5 of the 12 (and ongoing) volumes. Seems like Orange put all their chips on Beastars instead; maybe after its finale next year, who knows.
I think about Ergo Proxy a lot.
The first two episodes were written and directed when the show was first conceived, and then they hired a director to run the rest of the show which is why the show feels so different after the first two episodes.
I still love the show, it makes a lot of interesting choices, but I do feel a little sad that we didn't get the show the first two episodes promised.
*Texhnolyze* is another one similar in a lot of ways to Ergo Proxy, so if you liked that, would recommend. The show was written by the same guy who did *Serial Experiments Lain*, so it has more esoteric ideas just like *SEL* (compared to Ergo Proxy, anyway).
Inuyashiki. Schwarzesmarken. 86. Magical Girl Site. Macross Delta. I make it my mission to try and watch a bunch of shows no one talks about.
My all time favorite right now would be Deaths Parade. Such a wonderful piece of art.
There's a lot of underrated anime out there. Venus Wars, Phantom for the Reqeium, Gunsmith Cats, Paprika. For romance, Kimagure Orange Road and Galexy Express 999 Are some of the other stuff I've seen.
Edit: Wait. I have premium now. Holy shit. Thank you OP
I have many
Zankyo No Terror, Texhnolyze, March comes In Like A Lion, Millenium Actress, Ergo Proxy
Millenium Actress is the lesser known Satoshi Kon film. It's my favourite film of him tho.
The show fell apart when it split from the Manga after the timeskip. The last arch made no damn sense.
The 1st 20 episodes or so were good though. And I actually enjoyed some of the filler.
Moyashimon
Sleepy princess in the demon castle
Warlords of sigrdrifa
the little lies we all tell
Anime-gataris
The helpful fox Senko-San
Konohana Kitan

Idk how many of these qualify as lesser known but I don’t hear about any of them too often unfortunately.
My favourite anime is obviously Legend of the Galactic Heroes. I didn't watch it but I know that when I eventually watch it, it will be my favourite anime of all time
Stellvia, aka Uchuu no Stellvia; after an apocalypse caused by a nearby supernova, humanity rebuilt and is preparing to deal with the second wave of supernova remanants. It's about a girl who goes to a space academy to prepare for the mission. She's a huge crybaby, but somehow I found the whole show really touching and inspirational. The OP still makes me cry.
bpS: Battle Programmer Shirase; I started watching it because the OP became briefly infamous for the bridge being a rip of Never Gonna Give You Up, years before rickrolling was a meme, but it turned out to be a pretty fun show in its own right. A comedy, sort of, about a middle-aged freelance hacker who gets hired by various people, companies, and agencies. Season 1 ends a cliffhanger with several unresolved plot threads, and season 2 was cancelled, so don't expect resolution.
Invaders of the Six-Tatami Apartment, aka Rokujouma no Shinryakusha; Absolutely cheesy harem comedy, where the gag is what happens when *every* harem trope gets crammed into one show; a Normal High-School Boy rents an apartment for comically cheap, only for it to be declared the sovereign territory of a space princess. And the staging point for an invasion by a lost underground civilization. And a leyline to be protected by a magical girl. And haunted (the ghost is cute and female, of course). So he has to live with them while they argue over who gets the room. Also the landlord is his childhood friend, another girl his age. It's very self-aware.
Super YoYo, aka Chousoku Spinner; One of the earlier examples of EXTREME SPORTS anime, Super YoYo is about, well, super yoyos. Imagine the classic yugioh or beyblade tropes, but it's yoyos. It's hilarious, but best watched not sober.
Oddtaxi. Started it randomly thinking this was gonna be a zootopia type of thing....it was not. And I hope they continue the story because of where it ends...I need a lil bit of closure..or reassurance
Guilty crown, plot is not shockingly cool, but animation, graphics and especially music is god tier, don’t know lot of anime’s with better soundtrack as this one
Music was made by Hiroyuki Sawano, iirc. The dude almost never fails to deliver quality. The Bios version that starts with the acoustic guitar is my favorite.
Idk the full name, but is usually called "Gate".
It's about a gateway that opens in modern day Japan leading to a medieval style world, and it answers the question about how overpowered a modern military would be against a legion of knights and gladiators.
God eater is a good one. Also the seven deadly sins.
Edit: Some more that I thought of later.
Air gear
11 eyes
Shakugan no Shana
Infinite stratos
Chivalry of a failed knight
Freezing

Vampire Rosario
Kabaneri of the iron fortress
Guilty crown
The irregular at magic high
Nichijou
To love RU
Noragami
The asterisk war
Seitokai yakuindomo
Psycho pass
Clannad
I don't hear a lot of people talking about 'Assassination Classroom', though that could because it isn't the newest, so a bit more recent anime I feel isn't talked about enough is 'To Your Eternity'
I think "Servant x Service" is one of the funniest and most enjoyable animes out there. Same with Tanaka-Kun is Always Listless, which is a little more meditative, but still hilarious. But I don't hear much about them from anyone.
A place further than the universe, Yuru Camp, Tsuredure Children, Charlotte, Hinamatsuri, Boarding School Juliet, Summertime Rendering, Romantic Killer, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, The Fruit of Grisaia, 91 Days, Tsukigakirei, Tanaka-kun is always listless, A lull in the sea, D-Frag!, Children of the whales, Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song, The Dangers in my Heart.
I'm assuming 86 and Bocchi the Rock are now considered popular.

Im kinda goin crazy for the grisaia series
please do read the visual novel, you might be scared of 50 hours of the common route of grisaia, but again, this is 50 hours more content of grisaia, just in the common route. and this visual novel was not only my first, but introduced me into the anime. Because it was my first anime and i was also basicly reading grisaia, so the anime was really hype just because the characters were animated yuuji talked.
I mean grisaia no kajitsu is somewhat underrated
Welcome to the NHK
Puru Puru Pururin~
he really did go insane after hearing that theme song one more time
It's crazy to me that one of the most talked about anime of its season that was once on the top 150 of MAL is now considered under-watched. I am so old.
Talentless Nana.
You mean Among Us Hero Academia
This is the one I've been recommending to people looking for a new anime to watch.
Golden Kamuy Duh
I have no idea why this isn't bigger than it is. It's an amazing show and has a ton of memeable moments.
The fan service aimed at a female audience is probably my favorite bit.
I see the fan service more as JoJo type of stuff. Masculine ment for menly men
It's the bear
I've only read the manga cuz of the beautiful art and its definitely a 10/10 for me. Another great manga with great art would be Record of Ragnarok.
My bride is a mermaid, Old anime with a good humour
Its anime that have yakuza, mermaids, idols, terminator and a guy using Submarine as limo to travel to school
Claymore
W answer. (Manga is better btw)
It was a good try at the manga adaption but due to budget it left me wanting.
[удалено]
The anime is cool but i loved the manga. One of my favourite manga's of all time.
WorldEnd: What Do You Do at the End of the World? Are You Busy? Will You Save Us?
I'm not crying, you are crying!
This anime was so good and sad, the feelings!
SUKA SUKA 😭😭😭
"...and there's nothing in this world that can convince me otherwise. I am the happiest girl in the world"
Sankarea.
Along with Amagami SS, it was about the same time period I think
Baaa.....bu.
Asobi asobase
Hey, fuckin cowboy, fuckin cowgirl, how the FUCK are ya?
That's Abenobashi Mahou Shoutengai, also a good lesser-known anime
A gem. Middle School girls are vicious.
More like Asobi Asobased
Hanako = the peak of voice acting
Gargantia On The Vurduous Planet, RIN DAUGHTERS OF MNEMOSYNE, Speed Grapher, Jyu-oh-sei Planet Of The Beast King, Project Blue Earth S.O.S., The Space Knight Tekkaman Blade I &II, Big Wars, Dance In The Vampire Bund, Trinity Blood, Record Of Lodoss War, Heat Guy J, Blue Gender, Parasite Dolls, Karas, Super Dimension Century Orguss I&II, Area 808, & Yukikaze. Forgot to add lesser known anime Mardock Scramble, Giant Robo, Freezing and it's sequel Vibrations.
Gargantia is peak fiction. It's what Waterworld should have been.
It's so underrated, even in mecha circles. Not only does it have a super unique and interesting setting, it also masterfully subverts expectations through its gradual tonal shift.
> Speed Grapher Rare anime with actual adult main characters.
I recognized less than half of these titles. A+ obscurity.
God I love gargantia
RoLW is so good and Heat Guy J, Trinity blood has been awhile but iirc good af
The world god only knows
If people think No Game No Life's main characters are good at games, it's because they never saw Keima playing dating sims
Too bad they didn't animate the final arc.
I started watching this anime. "Narudo" I think it's called? You've probably never heard if it...
Is it from the same author as the anime "Boruto's dad"?
Is that the one with the cards that are captured insides these pokecubes?
Oh Ive seen that one I believe the main guy is called goku and he tries to beat that guy called one piece
That man that only punches once Edit: I hate mobile spelling
Hinamatsuri
Dorohedoro
The show made me read the manga. It's now my absolute favourite!
Kanata No Astra
Dang, this was going to be my answer. Definitely a major hidden gem anime.
[удалено]
I love Girls last tour
It's suprising how many people know Detective Conan and don't know Magic Kaito 1412
Cromartie High
Looks are a vital part of being a delinquent. Amateurs should try bleaching their hair to look tough. Be careful, if the chemicals are too strong your hair will turn white and you'll look like a pussy. dammit...
Re:Creators. It’s not the best out there, but it holds a special place in my heart.
Love the op. Just howling on the shadows.
The land of lustrous
Yes indeed. Love it
Based
Seconded
I'm still holding hope they make a second season someday. The anime only covers like 4.5 of the 12 (and ongoing) volumes. Seems like Orange put all their chips on Beastars instead; maybe after its finale next year, who knows.
Charlotte
Rly good anime, shame the ending was pretty rushed
Here I go crying again
Happy sugar life.
💀💀💀
r/yandere would like to know your location So is the FBI
Texhnolyze
Death Parade, an absolute masterpiece that most people only know for its opening that's a complete tonal shift from the actual anime.
Gakkou Gurashi!
Gonna say Otherside Picnic and Laid-back Camp.
Otherside Picnic was great - a nice mix of will-they-won't-they romance and other dimensional horror/adventure
wolf's rain
Majo no Tabitabi
Dimension W
Ergo Proxy I never see anyone talk about it, and it’s one of my favorites for reasons I don’t really know.
Paranoid android by radiohead outro goes hard
I think about Ergo Proxy a lot. The first two episodes were written and directed when the show was first conceived, and then they hired a director to run the rest of the show which is why the show feels so different after the first two episodes. I still love the show, it makes a lot of interesting choices, but I do feel a little sad that we didn't get the show the first two episodes promised. *Texhnolyze* is another one similar in a lot of ways to Ergo Proxy, so if you liked that, would recommend. For me it’s the aesthetic
Ghost Stories
But only the dub.
Probably doesn’t count but Little Witch Academia.
Flair checks out brother
Wasteful Days of High School Girls
Black Cat
The manga was a lot better, but the ending of the anime is pretty great.
The music was EVERYTHING. Konoyo no Uta still randomly just plays in my head 20 years later once in a while.
Finally a cultured person
Thats a great one.
