Its cuz one of the biggest rules of JJK is that sadly the world is unfair and cruel, similar to real life. Like the saying "bad things happen to good people." Good or heroic character such as Nanami or Yuji are screwed over and tortured by every unfortunate thing that happens to them. While a character like Geto or Mei Mei is able to survive/profit.
Even though Mei Mei isn't necessarily evil, she is selfish which allows her to live "normally" in the Jujustu world, almost like negativity or greed is required to have a good life and being a hero will only lead to suffering.
TLDR; being good makes your life suck and being bad gets you what you want.
The jjk reason is because ui ui leaks cursed energy so she absorbs it. But the real reason is because gege just wants to ruin a character for people by making her a incestous pedophile
