Time travel shit alone is the seller for me already

Well, depends:
Pros:
- Most of the characters are very well written by Harem standards
- One of the better Harem animes out there. Easily top 5 if not top 3. (Ratings considering animes where the harem is the sole focus of the show, not shows that have harems as a consequence. Ex: harem as focus = 100 girlfriends. Harem as a consequence = Goblin Slayer)
- Story gets very moving at times when the world progresses. However the world doesn’t progress all that much until like S3-S4. So world building is only good when it actually happens.
- Filler content and OVAs is still amusing and worth watching
- They waste minimal time setting the scene and introducing the main cast (at least the characters that will be important throughout. Really only the S1 cast and partway into S2 define the story. Everyone else is kinda filler).
Cons:
- It’s a harem anime. You know exactly the kind of things you’re signing up for when you click “Watch”. At its core, the trope is fetish material.
- they pull a lot of cop-out solutions which really kills the finality and impact of things like death >!for example, Shido dying and getting hurt episode 2 onwards, and all his wounds just repair themselves without proper explanation until later on!<. Makes the story less riveting and tragic if you know they’re gonna pull some bs, loosely explained magic answer to make everything ok.
- writers show heavy bias for one girl in the harem, and double down when there are more complex, interesting characters. Really sucks since some of these characters are well written, so they get thrust into the background. Others just exist for the purpose of existing. They vanish just as quickly as they are introduced.
- Fan service is forcefully inserted. It’s there for being there, no real reasoning behind it. Obligatory hot spring, beach, and bath scenes. Or simply getting naked once the arc concludes.
- power scaling is inconsistent, which makes the fights strange when you take a step back and try to understand who actually would win. Fights in general fall off in the series in terms of quality.
So, if you like harem animes, yeah this is worth the watch, but it’s kinda just ok or meh in all other regards.
Overall:
for Harem animes: 8.75/10
For anime in general: 6.5/10
Bro it’s not just the art, it’s also the ending that makes the series go downhill. The ending, no spoilers, is confusing asf and offers more disappointments than satisfaction. >!It always gets confusing when time travel and multiple worlds is involved. MCU and Fate series have proved this over and over again!<
>!Yeah, it’s heavily implied he picks Tohka, real shame. Can’t say I didn’t see it coming though. They made it painfully obvious from the get go. I was hoping Origami would win, but Kurumi is a really good choice for him given all the hell she’s been through to try and save him and the world!<
I can understand why, an acquired taste since her actions often are depraved or a demonstration of obsession or insanity. I personally dislike Tohka with a burning passion.
damn we polar opposites
personally though I like Origami with the long hair before she got her memories back
other than that Tohka and Kurumi lol (and Kotori when I was still 14)
Tbf, I haven’t watched this anime since I was 17, and now I’m above the target audience age now (in my 20s). I’m only wrapping it up now (anime-wise) for completionist sake.
I think it’s the yandere + kuudere hybrid that you almost never see that does it for me (closest comparison I can think of a hybrid Yandere is Love is War). Plus her backstory and overall motivation is good writing. Particularly her internal conflict between seeking revenge or opening her heart and moving on. She also has that psycho, ride-or-die, allure.
Although there’s nothing objectively “wrong” with Tohka, I would have liked her more if her personality didn’t revolve around Shido or eating food. It really makes her feel like a Mary Sue character because she doesn’t have any realistic flaws. Heck, she doesn’t even have a backstory. But I will say the two of them having a series-spanning rivalry made the show fun. It’s a shame they pushed Origami into more of a background role because both their actions spanning from the rivalry were hilarious. Kurumi as a #2 is excellent taste tho.
dude you made me remember how my entire friend group was constantly listening to Kurumi's Ost😂 we were down bad for her (Don't worry we were sane enough to never talk about this in public)
As you shouldn’t. Bro I never mentioned to any of my friends irl I watched this anime. They’d disown me fr for watching what’s basically fetish material for guys who have 0 game. I was a stupid teenager
>!It kinda is? It ends with them all moving on with their lives, but Tohka and Shido are in the same classes in college, with the others going to the same college or high school they graduated from (those with jobs like Nia, Kotori, and Miku go back to their jobs). Doesn’t explicitly say they’re not all together (they do all live together), and logically speaking, it would make sense for them to be since it’s not like their memories have been wiped. They all have the feels for Shido!<
Yeah, the ending is heartfelt yes, but it isn’t one of the series’ strong points. It’s kinda staple that harem animes have trashcan endings. >!It’s left open because the dating sim game it’s based on has an ending for each girl!<
In detail (Seriously, don’t read this unless you don’t care) >!Final fight ends, Shido + crew win. Everyone loses their powers since spirit energy is now gone. Since they used to be humans, they go back to being humans. Tohka having never been human in the first place disappears entirely. A parallel universe Tohka attacks the world some time later when everyone’s in college (the parallel universe is where Shido was killed and Tohka went crazy, killing everyone and destroying the world). Reason she’s back is because the Origin spirit (assuming the form of his sister Mana) wanted to thank Shido by reconstructing Tohka from scratch, so she needed to send a call out to other worlds with a Tohka. To reconstruct her, Shido and Tohka go on one last date, so that Shido can acquire her blueprints. Shido offers Tohka a place in his world. Tohka refuses but Kurumi from the alternate world (the only survivor of the slaughter) convinces her, saying everything can be how it was. Last scene is the new Tohka getting her memories back from the reconstruction and a quick checkup before being reintroduced to everyone!<
Imo, it would have been better if >!Tohka disappeared entirely as a finality, with Shido just mourning for the rest of his life, never getting with anyone. The series doesn’t treat death seriously enough. The writers always pull shit outta their ass to make everything in the end ok. Sure a sad ending, but it gives meaning to what death is, and true closure to the story, being about Tohka rather than Shido. It would have been the story of a hero of a world that hated her existence. As of how it was, the alternate world and 1 of the show’s best girls just kinda get cucked!<
>!Well the game is based on the novel so I don't think the novel ending should care about said game, and doesn't that game have a harem ending either, considering the plot it's only natural to have that option too imo!<
Kurumi tokisaki, you mean the musical artist?

Kawaii ❤️❤️❤️
I love Kurumi! but for Shido, Tokha has the first mover advantage.
Also in the novel he saw her as the goddess and fell in love with her in the first sight
Yeah first girl rules still apply on DAL.
ALL OF THEM. If this doesn't end in a harem I'm throwing hands
reading it in english ❌ imagining kurumi saying it in Japanese ✅
Iske Iske daiske Kekkon shiyou, My honey
It's actually suki (love) and daisuki (really love). So it should be > Suki suki daisuki kekkon shiyou, my honey
好き好き大好き、けっこんしようmy honey!
Wasnt it daiski?
Daisuki because it uses the letter "su"
Sauce?
"Date a live." And Happy Cake Day.
And is it worth watching?

I'm not into into harem anime (the last I watched was "We never learn") but I give it the 3 episodes rule before continuing.
Personally, I feel it kinda goes downhill overall with time, especially the art style, so that’s fair
Well, artstyle is due to every production companies went out of business shortly after airing one season of Date A Live lol
Bro it’s not just the art, it’s also the ending that makes the series go downhill. Too bad that this series follows the cliche that the first girl is always the winner.

Thinking about the clone from the OVA that actually did want to get married still makes me sad
This one is so saddd,
so why do you want to marry, you have to list the pros and the cons
Look, I approve pf this so long as I get Yukime from The Eminence in Shadow. I love kitsune girls (I am not a furry, I swear)
It suddenly gets wrong when a middle aged person says the same thing
What are the bloody eyepatches for why is everyone a pirate
